Parley brought just the scabbard because she can pop back home and grab her sword faster than the first chickcharney can marvel over it's own marbles.

Now....FIGHT! (If protocol requires that you bear no weapons, shouldn't Ys be out of that ballistic tree suit?) They are in the forest; it's possible that it's just the Court representatives are not supposed to carry weapons as a sign of trust and/or respect. Or it could be largely symbolic since both sides have individuals that are more than capable of acting as humanoid-weapons.

She is quite skilled, but remember, She is in his element right now. He does have the advantage in that regard. At least, he would if Smitty wasn't there. Eyebrows might have some influence here. Don't know how much it would amount to against a god like Coyote, though. Who says parley winning is the right order? What is interesting too is what do Annie! She chooses between friends or her role as forest medium?

Annie and Andrew/parley are good friends so they will be influenced. As Annie trusts the forest and Coyote more than the court she will favor the forest more and Parley/Andrew and even Kat will choose Annie over the court because they distrust the court because of the whole jeanne thing. Even tough the Court medium is just a messenger, Andrew will be influenced even if he is told to certain stuff, especially if he dislikes them. It will happen I think and might cause a divide between the friends.

"Muuu"?
What sort of creature makes that noise? The rare Gillitie speckled cuw, perhaps?

"I come bearing no weapons. Only my pants full of crap and terror." "Muuu"? What sort of creature makes that noise? The rare Gillitie speckled cuw, perhaps? Vampire cow? Bessie the Ripper? Someone's got to be doing all the cattle mutilation.

(If protocol requires that you bear no weapons, shouldn't Ys be out of that ballistic tree suit?) I don't think that she's unarmed because it's standard protocol. It's more a case of her showing that she bares no ill will to the forest creatures. Remember the forest beings' approach to diplomacy? In the forest, words are mean less than action, especially with regards to strength and being respected. Parley coming to the meeting with her sword at her hip would mean more to them than her saying she's not going to hurt anyone since no one in the forest that has fangs, claws or other 'weapons' has any qualms about using them. Coming to the meeting in her armour makes it clear that she's not weak and should therefore be respected. Being unarmed shows them that she's not going to hurt them (at least not today), and trusts the people she's meeting to do the same. Meanwhile Ysengrin can respect the courage of someone to come unarmed into a place surrounded by strangers, many of whom are more than capable of ripping her apart (him being one of them), hence the nod. However, Ysengrin is not in the same position as Parley. Him being out of his armour would convey weakness, due to what he looks like now but also because he would be seen as submitting to the humans. This is a meeting on the Forest's terms: their medium is introducing the Court's to them in their territory. The Court is in no position to request Ysengrin leave his suit at home, and we know how Ys reaction the Court trying that.

Must be nerve–racking to shake hands with Death. She already did that. Well... sort of. What's more, I think that Ysengrin respects Parley as a person, that is, above and beyond what her position warrants as an employee (?) of the court. Maybe, he's just glad that Annie began to pick up cool friends?.. 'Grin can see (and smell) that she got guts, at least. Most likely observed at least her exercises with Mr. Eglamore during Andrew's unofficial visit - after all, he had to know they are here and would be concerned with keeping an eye on That Guy rather than some kid whom Antimony is already supervising. Also, who would win in a fight? I'm betting on Parley. Depends on the opening and how much Ysengrin is in control. She can come from any direction instantly, but in the forest, he can spam-attack the whole area around all at once. Everything is going so well and logically this is the perfect way to mend the chasm between court and forest. When this goes wrong, which it will because I doubt this is the last chapter, it's going to go wrong horribly. Andrew is present on the scene. "Muuu"? What sort of creature makes that noise? The rare Gillitie speckled cuw, perhaps? It's an a-moose-ing sound. "Muuu"? What sort of creature makes that noise? The rare Gillitie speckled cuw, perhaps? Organic laser cow. ...or that.

Nothing has to go wrong here to keep the story going because the rift between the court and the forest is too great to be mended by a single, positive meeting. It would be a step in the right direction, sure, but nothing more than that. I don't mean at this meeting necessarily. I mean the court and forest medium being good friends who see the good and bad of each side. Of course a few greetings won't fix hundreds of years of war. I mean it won't be all smiles and cheering for long.

It took me awhile to think of this, but upon reflection...is Annie going to introduce Jones next? How will she introduce her? With what name and with what role?

Parley says she comes bearing no weapons, but she still has hands and feet, jaws to bite and claws to catch.
Well okay, maybe not claws.

But I think that as long as Parley's reflexes hold up, she'll be at Grinny's neck - literally - before he can do anything else. If she survives the first attack, then she wins.

Panel one - why does Parley have a burning candle in front of her? (It's actually Jones, in the background.)

It's been awhile since we've mentioned it, but I do believe this qualifies as a new hairstyle! (This time for Parley rather than Kat or Annie, but she's still a significant character so I think it should count.) Not that I really care if the meme stays lost in the past; it was silly at it's best. But Parley's style looks so great that I had to say something. Fashionable and functional if she should need to get physical! I wonder who did it for her? One of her girlfriends? This guy?

On the subject of Parley being unarmed, I'd wager that there's no real protocol stating that's how it's supposed to go. More likely it's a way to show trust in the forest, more specifically Y himself, to honor his word. Ysengrin is someone who values honor, and this is a clear indication that Parley is ready to believe him when he says he won't start any trouble. It's also a sign of goodwill, showing that she won't start anything herself. That being said, with the weird stuff that Eglamore's been able to do, Y is most likely aware that Parley has other talents than swordfighting.
To add to the "who would win" debate, I think it is worth remembering that Parley's training is formal; aside from her meeting with Jeanne she hasn't really been tested in combat, and her one experience with actually hurting another living being left her in a state of slight shock. That could have been from not expecting it, but it's worth considering that soldiers in all eras have needed desensitization to killing to perform well, and as far as we know Parley has gone through no such training. On the other side we have Ysengrin, who is not only a veteran soldier and a general to boot, but one that has most definitely killed many times before.
Add to that, I just thought of something else; the only other time we've seen Parley teleport as part of combat training, her opponent was Robot. As far as we know, Robot can not see or sense etherical activity, and despite being fast beyond any human possibility, most likely faster than Y, Parley's teleporting was even faster. Contrast that with Ysengrin, who is a being very accustomed to the etherical arts. What are the odds that he can actually "see" or otherwise sense Parley bipping, or even read where she's going before she gets there? That could have huge ramifications for how openly Parley can jump around, maybe even completely removing the possibility of doing a "death from above" move. Huge wolf jaws is a pretty good deterrent, or so I've heard.
Also, I bet that Parley asked if Andrew could fix her hair so it wouldn't get in the way. Andrew, knowing nothing about the subject, just did something random with a hairtie and it came out perfect.

Since she can pop Andrew out with her, why bother coming back? Because of violent and extraneous reasons, but your logic is solid. As possible as it is, there's no reason Tom would willingly make that happen unless Annie's also in danger, and can't be popped away.

Courage to strengthen, fire to blind, music to dazzle, iron to bind. And of course spankies to excite. I like the Wheel of Time a lot, but Robert Jordan was a little obsessed there... "A little obsessed" doesn't begin to describe Jordan's writing style. I never finished the series the first try, because he was taking too long between books, and there were way too many details and names to remember for one book to come out every two years. I'm reading through it now, and while I'm enjoying it way more than I did the first time through, especially reading the books back to back, his narrative shorthand is fairly driving me up the wall. I'm not sure how much shawl straightening and dress/skirt smoothing I can take. I caught him using that shorthand for nervousness with two different characters for three paragraphs in a row. Also, the sniffing, snorting, and knuckling. AUGH
