Don't mind the camcorder. It's just shy.

The RotD really needs to switch to Hi8 format and get with the times.

Makes you wonder what the camcoder was in life... A camcorder. This is what the soul of a camcorder looks like.

Is it still making those horrible groaning noises to Kat? OR is she just putting that down to old squeeky gears?

To be fair, those old camcorder weren't exactly plug-and-play. Though after setting one up, I never whispered Tekeli-li with my hands oddly sticky... well most of the time.

Yeah, those things are still pretty common. I've been on a number of indie film shoots that use one as a backup camera. The resolution isn't as good, but if you're going for the "old home movie" aesthetic, nothing beats the real deal.

Something about this page made me think: it would be incredibly awesome if someone made a Gunnerkrigg Court level in multiplayer Halflife. I mean really, it's the perfect blend of technology, industrial design, weird creatures and glowy stuff -- it wouldn't even take too much custom modelling! Can you see it? Throw in a tamer version of Portal's door and you've got Donny's Door. Oh man, please please! I'd do it myself, but the last time I dusted off my level editing chops was the original Doom. (It's been awhile)

I know where to go for tutorials and such, but I've never actually used Hammer.

If Mort really does leave, he'll be the first major character (or at least, the first noteworthy recurring characters) to be written out of the comic. I don't know if that's supposed to be a sign of the direction Tom's planning to take "Gunnerkrigg Court" in, though.

Awesome! Source would look much better than Goldsrc. I used Hammer briefly just enough to play with it, and my opinion is that level editors have come a long way, though it's still not intuitive. From what I understand, people don't care for Hammer, but it's still easier than what I remember. I just don't have the artistic skill, and honestly, the time either. As for actual balance, I wasn't really thinking that at all, and it would be a challenge at best. I was mostly just thinking about being able to explore the court from a first-person perspective. On the other hand, playing it multiplayer would be fun, but the rules and gameplay would seriously have to be changed. Running around GKC shooting each other would be weird and wrong, worse the more realistic it got, know what I mean? The "weaponry" would need to be vastly different, and I'd imagine the gameplay would be more cooperative, like hunting down treebeasts or turning off the lake reactor before the time runs out and Zimmy goes to 11 or something. (Ugh, Zimmyham would be a disturbing area too, with Nobodies and all that.) All those changes would be another project entirely, well beyond just designing the level itself. But as I was saying, simply wandering the level and all that would be great!

Now imagine what she would have done had there been some dust on the lens. Kat does seem to be the kind of person to carry around cleaning agent at all times...
I don't know why my mind went there right away. At least now everyone that read the above line can cringe with me in sympathy for that poor eyeball.

It seems a little inconsistent that Kat sees what she wants to see in some cases, but is confronted with disturbing images in others. I'm still not totally clear on whether there is an objective "reality" to any of them for the purposes of the story. One presumes that Tom has a vision that takes all of this into account, but I've yet to grasp it.

We're seeing this page from Annie/Mort's pov. Ankou was a spirit guide who chooses how you see him. As part of the rotd, Mort might be inconsistent (although I suppose he is a tacky ghost). Maybe Kat met him in a separate setting and accepts him as a being in his own right? Will Paz ever find out about the scary clown affair?

Still, it would be cool, and www.youtube.com/user/3kliksphillip has good tutorial videos for Hammer. Edit: I could totally do it, but it would take forever
