Following along with a couple suggestions from the translation board, I figured I'd go ahead and create a thread regarding translation of the comic into the Japanese language. Aside from myself, I know of really only one person who has the same interest in translating it into Japanese. Sadly, I doubt this will be a very active thread, but I'm sure we can try to make it work. Maybe you guys can pop in here sometimes just to discuss the language and maybe learn a little bit!

I'm not yet good enough to give a shot at translating any dialogue, but I'll post my updated Chapter 1-5 titles (modified with rasamune 's input). ガンナークリッグ・コート 第一章: ロボットと影 第二章: 校庭の神話 (Not yet sure on this one. Apparently it's supposed to be a play on words? The English title, that is.) 第三章: レーナディーン 第四章: あまり怖くない 第五章:二人の変な女の子 (or perhaps 第五章:二人の変な少女) And I thought "blinker stone" could be translated to 瞬き石, but I can't be sure on that.

OK, here's my first crack at Page 1.
私の名前はアンチモン・カーバーです。
「ガンナークリッグ・コート」
という学校へ通いながら変な起こったことを語りたいと思います。
Purely because of how Japanese grammar works, I can't really put the title at the end for effect the way the title page of the comic does. It needs to be in the middle, because it's a Subject-Object-Verb word order. Anyone have any tips? This is my first attempt so it's bound to be pretty crappy.
EDIT: Oh yeah, can't forget this part!
第一章: ロボットと影

my japanese's pretty bad, but I think if you need to have "Gunnerkrigg Court" at the end you could go with 私は アンチモニ カーバーです 学校には変な事件と語りたいと思います 学校は ガネークリグ コート
otherwise i'd preffer 私は アンチモニ カーバーです ガネークリグ コート 中学校には変な事件語りたいと思います

First thing I'd do is find a Japanese copy of Uzumaki, locate the line that the intro text is stolen from (it's at the very beginning, so not that hard), and just copy from that. As for the blinker stone, that's a bit tricky, because as discussed in the previous thread, "blinker" has a triple-meaning: - A flashing signal
- A substitute eye
- A device for shutting out outside distractions and focusing one's attention (i.e. the blinkers on a racehorse)
To me, the third definition is the most important to retain, so for a while I'd thought about translating it as 目隠珠 (メカクシダマ), but that translation has its own problem; 目隠し can refer either to a horse's blinkers or something that completely obscures one's vision. A more specific term for a horse's blinkers is 遮眼帯 (シャガンタイ), so from that, perhaps 遮眼石 (シャガンセキ) would be a good translation. Of course one could also just be lazy and do a straight transliteration of ブリンカーストーン :V

Speaking of transliterations, how about a smattering of character names! Antimony Carver (Annie) アンティモニー・カーヴァー (アニー) Surma Carver スルマ・カーヴァー Anthony Carver アントニー・カーヴァー Katerina Donlan (Kat) カテリナ・ドンラン (キャット) Anja Donlan アンヤ・ドンラン Donald Donlan ドナルド・ドンラン Robot (S-13) ロボ (S(セラフ)‐13号) Shadow II (aka Shadow) シャドウII(ツー) (シャドー) Mort モート Paz Cadena-Blanco パズ・カデナブランコ Zeta (Zimmy) ゼタ (ゼット)* Gamma ガンマ Sir James Eglamore サー・ジェームズ・エグラモア Jones ジョーンズ George Parley ジョージ・パーレー Andrew Smith (Smitty) アンドルー・スミス (スミっち) Reynardine/Renard レナディーン/レイナード Coyote コヨーテ Ysengrin イセングリム * I feel like Zimmy's nickname should be changed, as the straight transliteration of Zimmy would be ジミー, which reads an awful lot like "Jimmy". ゼット (Zetto) strikes me as more plausibly feminine, and avoids confusion with the big guy

What's the best word to use for "aether"? 天空 is more like "air" イーサ is a direct transliteration, but it seems kinda forced. I was thinking maybe just 気 ?

I'm still inexperienced at this translation stuff, haha.

Any font recommendations? Obviously, the default font won't work.. but is there a font for Japanese that gives off a similar vibe?
