See, I figured the squinting was from the bright sunlight effect, maybe the wind stirring their hair... Like walking outside on a summer day after being inside for a long time.

I thought the wind and the light was making them squint a little. They just look a bit weird because you don't see someone smiling at the same time that their eyes narrow.

When they were in there the first time they were quite ...loosed for lack of a better word. Some thought the berries were involved in that... Now they open the door and look friggin blazed.
Yes, it probably was unintentional and they are just squinting because of the brightness and pressure equalization, but it look really unfortunate.
I enjoy this chapter. But it kinda starts to drag on... I absolutely expected this one to be the final page. What else is there to do? The last panel is a extreme long shot. So we're likely getting a change of scenery next page. Meeting up with Paz? Giving Renard some payback for spreading panic?

It still keeps going? This has the be the longest chapter ending in the history of the comic. At least it's not the longest ending in the history of story telling. Don'tchu talk smack about the Lord of the Rings, the best movies of all time.

They are squinting, its just funnier to think they got totally stoned the minute they entered the room.

Another note on the shadows: In panel three, the light is between the characters and the camera. Camera? It's a drawing, there's no camera :! Sometimes I find myself talking about camera angles in comics. Perspective is a tricky thing to talk about, and film language already exists so....

The red one is her friend now! To me, they don't look stoned, but instead.. happy. Happy and content. Which looks very similar to stoned, I realize. Happy memories. They had some mighty sugar high the last time. Also I didn't really think about it before, but I how in the world does the Court pay for its electrical bill. Unless they have other forms of self supplied alternative energy How that chapter was named, again?..Yes, it probably was unintentional and they are just squinting because of the brightness and pressure equalization, but it look really unfortunate. It looks re-e-e-e-eally fortunate.

People raggin' on this chapter don't realize that their opinion doesn't matter, because they're serial readers and the pace of the chapter will be totally irrelevant to anyone reading the whole chapter at once!

Exactly. Remember how much bellyaching there was over The Stone? GEEZE TOM WE GET IT, SHE'S OLD, END THE GOSHDANG CHAPTER ALREADY A first-time archive binger is going to go through that whole thing in minutes, if not seconds.

Damnit, just our luck. The first hivemind always takes the worst possible interpretation of everything. It can be either "luck" or "always". IMHO. The camera is Tom Siddell's brain and the printer is his hand. That's what happens when Seraphs join the fandom! Also, I want my membership card to the hive mind. Careful, if it will think you're an infiltrator, they may devour you.

To a certain extent discussing each update also heightens the anxiety around each update.
I usually read >50 webcomics so that flattens it out a bit!

In Peter Jackson's defence, he has toned down the book's ridiculous end. It's a great book, don't get me wrong. But whole LOTR series, as books has many a ridiculous and, even worse, useless moments of which most the movie version ha cut short, toned down or left out altogether. Not saying the movies were definitely better than the books, they have their own, added ridiculous moments. So, anyway, merry Christmas to everybody!

You're right, when doing a future archive binge the chapter won't stand out much among recent chapters regarding length (assuming the chapter ends this or next week), but the pacing still seems slow, especially comparing it to its direct predecessor "Crash Course". The effect will be less dramatic when one reads it as a complete chapter, but I'd guess it will be noticeable. Of course then one might perceive it as a nice change of pace.

If all the pacing was as rapid fire as Crash Course GCK would cease to be dynamic, just as it would if everything was as slow as "Thread" or "Stone." Tom does a really nice job of varying the pace of his chapters.

Unless they have other forms of self supplied alternative energy How that chapter was named, again?..Well it is an ether gathering station, so does that mean that they use ether to power everything or convert it into electricity. Also it is not on all the time so its not a constant source of power, at least not electrical. And I'm more interested in exactly what they do, not just speculation.

Sorry, speculation is the only thing we can offer. For facts (about things that were left unanswered in the comics) you'll have to ask Tom. I speculate that electricity for all of the huge Court could be a tiny little byproduct of ether-harvesting. Either way, there was never mentioned a shortage of power. It's like when we discussed the paychecks of the teachers... they're never mentioned, but we can savely assume they're there.

I know I'm in the minoirty...but I miss the whole Sharkey-Shire-Book Six arc and wish it really had happened...even if it would have made the movie that much longer. Part of the reason that I love the books so much is that we get an opportunity to see, in very vivid detail, just how much war changes people, even fun loving people like Merry and Pippin. To me, this was an opportunity missed. I know Peter Jackson needed to say that enough was enough at some point, but I really wouldn't have minded a short movie, this added to the extended edition or even a fourth movie to play out of the war in the Shire. So, anyway, merry Christmas to everybody! Bah. Humbug! God Bless us, Everyone!

Personally, in the Off-topic realm of LotR, What I really missed was the Barrow Downs... And how the Hobbits found their weapons in old haunted tombs, rather than having them dropped in a pile at their feet by Aragorn. These blades were special... hence why one could bite the heel of the Lord of the Nazgul. I'm also one of those strange people who actually liked the bit with Tom Bombadill. Dude was a singing hippy in the woods, who lived with a beautiful elf (like Tolkein had other kinds) and who could see through the power of the Ring. He was an ancient Man-Like thing, possibly a Wizard... But not one, according to Gandalf. This guy warranted a ride on the last ship. I found him interesting. But adding those two aspects would have added a solid hour of the movie. At least.

I agree wholeheartedly. I don't think the Scouring of the Shire dragged at all. It was important to the series and I'm glad he chose to write it. Half of any tale is what happens afterward, when the participants say their goodbyes and go their separate ways.
