I'm getting the impression that this gift could be very important later. At the least, it ties in with the eye-related symbolism.
Rey seems to have excused himself.
Annie's hair looks a bit different from the last few pages. Maybe she washed her hair this morning and it's drying now.

Rey's still there. He's just sort of behind Annie, but you can see him in the first panel. The question is, who's saying "Haha!" from behind the door? My guess is Zimmy, though what she's doing in the Queslett dorms I'm not sure.

Zimmy's speech bubbles are a different color. That bubble is the color of Annie's, so it's either her or Shadow2 laughing. I think it's just supposed to be pointing off-panel, not behind the door.

Uh......It just looked to me like that last speech bubble was coming from the door, or rather, from someone just on the other side of the door. I see now that that's not the case. *runs and hides*

The most amusing part of this page was Kat describing the mask that she'd gotten for herself. I doubt that its attributes would have surprised any of us.
I wonder if the masks will have any significance later on in the story, or if they're just here for a cute character moment.

I love Annie's cunning face "I know you, and I bet ..."

God, the art amazes me every time. Brilliant expressions, and Kat just looks SO pretty. So does Annie with her mask ["future plot device" theory seconded]. Not to mention, AWWW.

Cutting the speech bubble's tail and leaving it as a circle should do.

That's a really pretty mask! I would like to get that as a gift so I could hang it on my wall. I agree with all the people who say it's gonna be used eventually, though, so it probably won't end up on Annie's wall.

I wonder what it'll be used for. Will the school throw a costume party at some point?

It is pretty crazy to me that people think there is someone behind the door. I had to read over the comic four or five times to understand what the people were talking about in the comments. I mean, would they think that the symbol in the sky is talking in this strip?

it was an honest mistake (which was quickly cleared up). the first time i read it there was a second where i was like "wait, disembodied laughter...?" until i looked at the speech bubble color and figured it was annie.
also, i think tom edited it to make it slightly less confusing by the time you read it
edit: another thing to consider is that, depending on the timezone, it's possible sleep deprivation was affecting perceptions. (i have to stay up till 1am for the early update, at which point my brain's not always firing on all cylinders)

It had the little tail tag on it, the directional thing. I saw it for the early update, though, and I was just as confused about that. Speak bubbles are color coded in this comic! Which is, by the way, an excellent idea, Tom. Really cuts out confusion on tricky formatting.

I think that they might have been all the more keen to believe that the laughter was coming from someone behind the door because that would mean that there was an eavesdropper present who might suddenly enter the room and provide dramatic conflict or intrigue.

I'd be surprised if the mask turned out to be a plot device. It's just too obvious for Tom.
Or...is it?
Maybe he's trying to double-cross our thinking!
Aaaargghhh...
P.S. I love the third panel too. Such a pretty girl.
