Reminds me of what Mephistopheles says in Goethe's Faust (my translation, no attempt to preserve the rhyme):
They call it reason, and use it only to be more bestial than any beast

I wonder if Rey might start getting more protective of Kat to make sure people don't get on her case too much? Not that he isn't already, but from what I remember seeing it was always to benefit Annie as well. (all I'm remembering is the train station and botfight in S1 right now, have there been other occurences?) I think Renard is just an All-around good guy who protects his friends. That's really cool of him. He is, and has been for a while, my favorite character for this reason exactly. Or maybe he's just been reading the comments recently.

"Am I weird?" she asks of the fox spirit demigod trapped in the body of a stuffed animal whilst they sit in an underwater pod guarded by an enormous Lovecraftian crab monster.

Frankly, given the prevalence of non-human intelligences in the GCK-verse, I think it might be better to say that sentient creatures are capable of profound cruelty, as compared to the more instinctual reaction you get from animals. It's not like everyone that Annie meets who isn't human is all sunshine and roses (see Jean, Hettie, Yesgrim on occasion, Reynardine in his second appearance, etc).
Then again, I guess it's possible for non-humans to have some sort of different genetical/biological/spiritual response that circumvents some of that. Pure speculation though.
"Humans are bad, m'kay?" just sounds a little hollow to me coming from Reynardine, who, however friendly and/or remorseful he is NOW, still has at least 2 deaths on his conscience (3 if we count Hettie, which I don't cause he/she probably deserved it).

Depends how you count sentient, a lot of animals are capable of cruelty as well, especially the ones we know to be intelligent as well as us. Dolphins are known to be bullies towards both their own kind and other mammals, sea otters violently rape baby seals before killing them (http://animalsbehavingbadly.blogspot.co.uk/2011/04/its-your-turn-otter-huggers.html). In fact many animals have been shown to display cruelty that researchers are starting to think it evolved for good reasons many times.

So the earliest is Monday after, and that might also mean the Monday after.... Christmas. I know, right. What do we get for christmas? A ambiguous winter of anxious worries. I actually don't think we will see Annie at all this chapter... I'm thinking we'll see her, but she won't even mention what happened, and they'll both stew in silence. Sometimes, not saying anything can hurt the most. But, I'm hoping for cake and streamers. Maybe those sparkle sticks. This page is awesome, though. Bravo.

Reynard has many fine, leather-bound books. I wonder if his room smells of rich mahogany.
So, 18 pages in... Friday, finish heartwarming conversation, door opens in last frame. Monday, Annie, she's happy/excited, end of chapter. Bonus page Weds, chapter splash Fri?

Reynard has many fine, leather-bound books. I wonder if his room smells of rich mahogany. No, it smells like dust, crumbling leather and old paper. Trust me, no smell of sophistication can get through that mixture. Old leather-bound books are ridiculously filthy even if they aren't infested by mold or insects. Ofcourse Rey's books might be new, in which case they'd smell pretty good, I imagine. You just rarely come across entire shelves full of new leather-bound books.

Personally, I am not too worried about when we will see Annie. We know we will eventually, she is the Protagonist anyhow. I am quite interested in where Tom has taken this heart to heart conversation between Kat and Reynardine. He certainly has proven to be the Wise Wolf when he wants to be. (Using his centuries of experience for good rather than tricks? hahaha)
I love how Kat opens up to him, after clearly letting him know she doesn't need his smart alec jokes right now. And she says the fears that arise from anyone who questions their sexual preferences. She is aware of homophobia in the GC world. Reynardine's words, comforting much? He doesn't go for the easy answer, telling her what she wants to hear, he tells her what she needs to hear. The truth. She is on a road that will encounter difficulties and she has to know this. He doesn't judge her harshly but others may.
When he mentions that "...humans are capable of such profound cruelty..." I don't think he is speaking solely of physical gaybashing, but rather the fact that with the power of speech, humans can express their cruelty in verbal abuse, mockery and humiliation.
I think this is a beautiful chapter.

I think that we really need to give Renard more credit. He's about as old as Coyote, and probably has a lot more depth of character than shown here. He also really doesn't show his emotions that much. I doubt that he is first and foremost a trickster, and I'll bet that there are a lot of sides to him that we really haven't seen yet. I think his character is also a lot more complex and dynamic than Coyote's.
In retrospect, it's hard to see Renard laughing Kat off entirely in the last three comics. I just can't see that happening.

Kat will talk to everyone else she's close to, maybe even Zimmy. Only then will we get to know Annie's thoughts. This will be the longest chapter ever. There are a lot of robots. Also let me take the title of 'Wisewolf' from Holo and give it to Reynardine. Congratiulations, Sir, you've come a long way from a bodystealer and killer to this.

Come now, Kat. Your love for Annie is perfectly acceptable. Also, nice to see Renard supports Kat as well, not just Annie.

So Kat thinks her relationship with Paz makes her weird. Huh. See, if I was in Kat's place and I worried about what random hypothetical people thought, I'd figure people already think I'm weird due to the robot religion sprouting up around me, or because I hang out with a fire witch. Is discovering her sexuality really what Kat considers the "weird" thing going on in her life? Has she not been paying attention to the rest of her life?

(the random thoughts keep happening) Those shelf things in the background, like that one that Kat's sitting on. How does Rey get from one to another?
Do they go up and down on some kind of piston? Are they like those bouncy office chairs or something (but I don't see any levers on the side)? How do they not fall over (were the kids allowed to modify the hardware of the place and bolt the things down, seeing as the place is underwater)?
