Looks like whoever guessed that Kat was going to be chanelling Forest Annie was right. Also, for a moment I thought that panels 3 and 4 were in the wrong order, even though Paz obviously wasn't wearing a labcoat before. That waiter-like gesture fooled me totally.

So by Monday sparks will fly! Kat did invite her to see an experiment so Paz shouldn't be disturbed by a twitching wing.

would all of you stop saying Tick-Tock wing. it is nothing close at all. Kat got the idea for copying biological designs to engineer a new style of robot that would have more fluid movement similar to biology. Tick-Tock wing and design. www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=127Kat's Prototype is clearly patterned after an avian wing elbow. which is logical seeing as she got the idea from looking at her pigeon City-face Chapter 29: bad start www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=743Eureka www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=755It was at that moment Kat realized what the robots were trying to share with her. And since then she has built this prototype. www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1270A simple elbow joint, Two Bones, Two muscles, and attaching ligaments An electrode to each muscle and a conducting bath to ground out the electricity safely. A very simple design, for a first prototype, but as Kat learns, her prototypes will become increasingly complex. I really miss Kat's Long hair.

Hm, so is this the test? For some reason I thought the node the s-models brought would be involved in it.. I guess there's good reason now for her to not wait until Annie gets back

I do not mean to come of as rude, but if you click the little gear next to the like button on top of each post, you can then click "Select Post". If you then click "Quote" on a different post or just directly reply to the thread, you can quote multiple other posts in one post. (Yes, I have an irrational aversion against double posts.) I see no benefit whatsoever to minimizing the number of consecutive posts by the same person. There is minimal whitespace added, and the avatar is repeated. However, the benefit to keeping one topic per post is easier quoting and more consistent conversation threads. This reply, for example, was a PITA to edit with its multiple quote blocks.

I admit I'm a grumpy old man in that regard. It's a rule to avoid two post in a row in most boards I frequent, so it just became a pet peeve of mine. Feel free to ignore my ramblings

Although there must be other birds in the Court that this could be modeled on, I think it's fair to assume that Tom would make it a Tic-Toc based on the fact that they're already familiar to us. It would have to be a baby one though... As cool as a baby flesh-Tic-Toc would be, I'm gonna have to go with pigeon wing. I think that it would be more symbolic for their relationship.

A little light science for two by candle burner light? Sounds like a romantic time to me.
And everyone says Kat lacks social skills.

Maybe it's a gen. 2 Tic-Toc, complete with actual meat? Do you know how much it takes to keep a chunk of meat alive? The muscles are clearly a bluish chemical polymer that contracts when exposed to electricity. And everyone says Kat lacks social skills. plenty of Smart and nerdy or geeky people have social skills. it's just easier to act like an introvert and work alone than put up with the drama and hassle of dealing with other people.

The polymer idea makes sense, though. I wonder how much electricity that would take.

Depending on how efficient the muscle is, it might be just a few joules.

A science experiment date! Paz is so lucky to have Kat as a girlfriend. Will it be like the Galvani frog leg experiment with artificial muscle?

She's been pretty tolerant so far. She seemed interested to know what "sciency things" Kat does. Although the last panel does make me uncertain...

She was working with test animals in a laboratory setting, so I think it's safe to say Paz is a science-y type as well, although of a more biological lean than Kat.

..what exactly is that on the table? A frog leg? She had a few revelations earlier about bio-mechanical robots, and the wing design of course. It's a test of that idea, a sliver of muscle that you can put a current through to make it contract on command. From there you'd just have to design a housing/skeleton and then grow all your muscles in molds and attach those to the frame. Kat is going to build something truly monstrous before this comic is over.

Also I think Kat's copping a feel in the fourth panel. And further, Paz does not seem to be minding it. She's totally in!

I wonder how much electricity that would take. not much electricity actually 3.5 volts gives good movement www.youtube.com/watch?v=3E5U8BuyyJsthe stronger the voltage or current the more movement in the polymer. By running a current though it, it will expand or contract dependant on the type of polymer used and the chemistry involved. Dielectric Electro-active polymers could be made as strips with a non-conducting layer between two polymer layers, applying a charge to one side would cause it to bend in the opposite direction. a more useful Polymer would be one that can stretch when uncharged or or will expand with a positive current, and contract with a negative current. Diodes and non-conductive layers would be important in the design of the actual artificial muscles. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xL5bInUumbMwww.youtube.com/watch?v=Ga_IafGRWyEI have no clue what type of polymer Kat could be using. www.youtube.com/watch?v=uw8FLgiXsmkwww.youtube.com/watch?v=4XGVMXCxBNAwww.youtube.com/watch?v=eIh8L59sd30

They actually have electro-kinetic polymers? Hell yeah, science.
I'm sure Kat's using a polymer of her own design. She is a supergenius.

That's a Tic-Toc wing, or Kat's prototype equivalent, I'd stake my life on it! She's getting Paz's help on the project! Hey, what are the odds that Kat will end up etherically-retroactively inventing the Tic-Tocs? Not bad. Perhaps she time-traveled backwards and invented the tic-tocs in the first place? That would be cool
