Hmm... Yeah.... I think the metal is the star crystilizaiton form of antimony... and the subway stairs might be a setting in a future comic... and... I give up.

Here is a list:

OK, Hardwick is just about every place in England, Gype's probably the name of the dog, thalidomide is a teratogenic painkiller that's barely used anymore and that picture seems to be a small scale model of a ship. Miño has me puzzled; there's lots and lots of places in Spain and Portugal with a name with Miño in it. There's also a 15th century sculptor called "Mino da Fiesole" though, but he's Italian, i.e. no ~. There's also Fausto Miño, a musician who... sort of if you try real hard looks like that statue. Maybe it's a statue Kat would think looks like that guy? He's got long hair though. Tui seems to be another placename in Spain or New Zealand. Linda... another dog name? Livery's the name of that subway station? So... I'm guessing pictures taken by Kat on her holiday? So far she's only spoken about Italy and Scotland, but it wouldn't surprise me if they went past London during the trip. All in all, the thalidomide one gets to me most.

Buh... Er. Off the top of my head- perhaps (just *perhaps*) Surma took thalidomide during her pregnancy but somehow, instead of affecting Annie it got to Surma instead and that's why she was so sick. Mino may be connected to Basil (Minotaur, after all) so just perhaps that's where he goes when it's not his turn for the timeshare. Tui means push (Avatar, how I do love thee) but since it's apparently in Spain or New Zealand that's not the right meaning 'cause the meaning I know is from Chinese.
Ahheh, just bulls**ting.

The internet tells me that thalidomide was used as a sleeping aide and for morning sickness until they found out it causes serious birth defects, mainly short arms and legs. Very recently it has been approved in the US for treating the side effects of Leprosy and myeloma (a blood cancer). It causes drowsiness and low blood pressure and possibly more serious side effects like nerve damage. What this has to do anything I'm sure I don't know.
What I'd really like to know is: WHY TOM WHY?? You can say anything you want about old holiday pictures lying around or collage or a new artistic vision, but the truth is you LIKE messing with us. Confess!

I quite agree. Tom, why must you confound us so?!

We're all going "WTF" now, but in a year or two we're going to understand it all and worship Tom's genius.

Seems I screwed up the order of that list. The model of the ship's with London and thalidomide is with the weird statue. Tui's quite clearly: www.galiciaguide.com/Tui.html (observe the second picture) Miño seems to be the river Miño, which runs along the border between Portugal and Spain near Tui.

I'm with cyraptor on this one. Come on guys. Are you serious? Do you have to analyze everything Tom puts up? Just look at the pretty pictures and enjoy them for the sake of their beauty. If you look too close at something, you'll miss enjoying what it is. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

I'd wondered myself if the real point of the pictures was that Tom had simply run out of "summer holiday" Gunnerkrigg material and was putting up unrelated photographs to fill in what would have been an otherwise blank spot for #9. (I wonder if it'll be the same for tomorrow.)

Do you have to analyze everything Tom puts up? Yes. Whyever shouldn't we? It gives us something to do, doesn't it? All right, maybe I oughtn't to because of my tests, but everyone else has a right to do what they like, and what they like is to analyse things brutally.

If you look too close at something, you'll miss enjoying what it is. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. A cigar that triggers a profound revelation about the meaning of life is no less a cigar for doing so. And we enjoy analyzing this stuff so much.

I'm with the non-analysing group. Since I am in that group, it's probably the wrong group to be in.
JUST WARNING YA, GUYS.

the thought did cross my mind that tom could just be messing with us by posting random pictures but it's fun and good excercise for our brains trying to make connections (even if they don't exist). not to mention i love learning random things like what thalidomide is ^_^
oh, and i have no clue what anything means at this point. maybe my brain will come up with something interesting later

You have to take the first letters of the words! HGLTMTLAL! HGLTMTLAL!!! ;D I wont try to analyse this either. Although there's always the chance that there's a message in there I don't understand yet, it might as well just be random photographs Tom put together in order to see how people would interpret it.

Definitely not completely random; the Miño and Tui are next to each other, plus antimony's in there.

HGLTMTLAL...
Change the H to E, the first T to A, the 2nd T to O, the first L to R, the A to E, and the last L to an exclamation point, and you get EGLAMORE! HAHAHAHA!

If that's the answer, what was the question?
