I wonder if we'll get to see the entire light/dark "mask" effect on her face. She still sounds like Annie, she just seems serene or very sure of herself.

Well, this thread grew pretty long in 16 hours. I guess she has a bit more of a... elementaly personality at the moment. Some one explained this with part Scottish people or something on one of the other threads.
So Annie can get a little more serious than usual.

I don't think the "crown" has anything to do with royalty. It seems to me to just be a part of the Fire Elemental physiology, if you get what I mean.
Leopard has spots, Tiger has stripes, Fire Elemental has fire spike. But it is etheric in nature, so on a human hybrid like Antimony, it wouldn't be visible... most of the time. Even in Ethervision (or Zimmyvision for that matter).
I imagine to see the fire spike on Annie, you have to have certain conditions. Here are a few ideas, I am sure there are others.
1. Dig really deep, like Zimmy did when Annie was in the hospital.
2. The viewer is powerfully etheric, like Coyote. I am sure he can see anything like that, after all he swims in the ether.
3. Annie makes it visible by pushing her elemental nature to the fullest, as we see here.
Anyhow, just my take on it. I am sure Tom has it well thought out and will probably surprise us even more.
And I have to say, the past few pages have been just incredible! The artwork in this chapter is moving to a whole new level.

Actually, I wonder if a blinker stone even actually normally allows for firestarting at all or if it just augments the pyrokinesis she already had. Red and (not-yet-named-but-we'll-call-her) Blue seemed to think it did: "It's kinda cold out." But then, they might have been aware she has pyrokinesis. Just never realized Annie didn't know and/or that it was worth mentioning ... Of course, fairies can see Annie ether-side, but there was nothing too special to see about her (except the scar, and back then not even this) until that training season - and even then only when she actively tries... Of course, they could have recognized Annie as "Surma's daughter!" and put two and two together - but can you imagine Blue and Red being aware of this fact and not commenting on it (loudly and incessantly)?  |

Uh, yes I can.
It's not like they're commenting loudly and incessantly on the sky being blue or water being wet. That Surma's daughter is a fire elemental may well fit in the same niche. ;-)

SIGH, guess we didn't get to see a fireball but whatever, this is cool too. The crown obviously means something about her position on the ether food chain. She handled those monsters like nothing and could have killed them all (including grinners) if she wanted to. Kinda scary actually. She is real burny. So burny she might even be a threat to zimms, jones, parly, smit, (kat  ) she looks like old ann trying to keep her poker face tho. This "isn't her final form" but pretty good for a kid!!! I hope some of the fine gentlemen of the forest stayed. |
