Yeah, I assumed the Court is still growing, but now that I think about it, I don't know if that was actually said anywhere. If it stopped growing, then the Seed Bismuth being on the forest side would be a likely explanation why. If it does still grow, than maybe the SB is still connected to it and could manifest itself over on the court side too, if it wanted to.
Also, I wonder why it doesn't keep growing on the forest side. Coyote's power keeping it in check?

yarksie: That was my response EXACTLY. So yeah, why isn't the Seed Bismuth on the side of the Court, if the Court grew from the Seed Bismuth? Perhaps these old ruins were once where the Court began, but they've been cut off by Coyote's scoring of the earth? Kind of like the Old Downtown in my city. It's currently pretty far out of the Actual Downtown, but it's still historically recognized as where it used to be. eightyfour: dang, that's cool. Also: I hope we're getting a wallpaper of this guy/thing soon! It looks fantastically blinding.

I'm thinking it's a trick/trap. Don't take any candy from it, Annie.
Perhaps, if it is legitimate, the SB isn't exactly a starting point for the Court. It could be something etheric, that they left behind, in order to become the Court. Some crystallization reactions are about what's left over, rather than the crystal itself. It's called the "Mother Liquor".

Throw in another vote for "shenanigans." Annie has just done the equivalent of getting into a white van promising her free candy.

Because obviously there are no manipulative shapeshifters running around somewhere in this forest. It's not like this has happened before... Assuming this spirit is legit, though, prepare for awesome flashback montage. Also, I see avatar material in this page.

If Annie is being tricked it is possible it's done by a fairy somehow, we learned in "Red Gets a Name" that fairies can sort of mind suggest things and make you see things although that was only in the ether. maybe it's something similar this time as well.

First, thanks for the info and the link, eightyfour. Second and last, I'm just FLOORED. The goddamn Seed Bismuth! I was hyperventilating and everything.
Edit: I don't think that's a trick. Partly because the inhabitants of Fun City don't seem to be that type of creature, but rather the type that gets into fights straightforward and for no reason. But mainly because this is too sgnificant to turn out to be just a trick. We might have one of those cuts, where something important happens but we only know about the details of it months later, like Tom's fond of doing and we love and hate him for it. But either way, my metaphorical money is on this beautiful thing actually being the Seed Bismuth.

As awesome as this page is, there's very little for me to say yet, besides "pretty". I honestly can't predict what will happen next. Is this just some will o' the wisp playing at Annie's desires, or the actual real deal? I just don't know. What confuses me the most is the fact that a seed shouldn't be able to survive after sprouting. Which leads me to one possible wild prediction: this is not the original Seed Bismuth, but the Court has matured and born fruit, producing a new Seed Bismuth ready to sprout.

It's trivia time! (I'm sure these things were mentioned before, but what the heck...) The chemical element Bismuth is in the same group on the periodic table as the element Antimony, one period down. Bismuth is a metal that sometimes can be found, but also can be grown in crystalline form. To do that, you liquefy the metal and let it cool down under controlled conditions while introducing a small, solid piece of Bismuth to the molten mass. This piece is called a Seed. Here's a guy who does that professionally. That, actually, explains a whole lot. So this is where the growing Court comes from, and why the Court may not need the seed anymore to continue growing. And once it does, it forms nice, neat squares with vertices at 90 degrees. Almost like buildings. It also happens to be the element with the longest half life in the universe. It takes 38 exayears, or 38 quintillion years (38,000,000,000,000,000,000 years)to decay completely into its daughter element, thallium 205. The universe is only 432.3 Quadrillion seconds old. A quintillion is a thousand times a quadrillion. This means, that the full life of Bismuth-209 is 277.36 trillion times longer than the age of the universe up to this point.

What's getting me is how extremely Froudian that thing looks. It looks so similar to several of Froud's faery illustrations I can't even think past that fact to speculate.

SB = Seed Bismuth Sb = Antimony
Huh.
Also, if the Seed Bismuth really is on the forest side, could that explain the disrepair of the Court? Cut off from the energy that created/sustain it, etc...

I'm kind of on board the "it's a trick" bandwagon just because of how anticlimactic this seems. I feel like something as important as the Seed Bismuth wouldn't be all "psst over here!"

In regards to how the Court might grow without the seed, the disconnection might actually have caused the Court's uncontrolled sprawl, without the seed managing it.
But I do think it's a fake of some kind.

Looks like I did well 13 pages ago. The Archive Thumbnail is interesting. That light looks like the representation of the Seed Bismuth. Furthermore, I think it is not a trick, because the of the archive thumbnail, which we saw last page. I mean, the thumbnails can sometimes be misleading, picking out a small element to represent the larger issue of the chapter, like the marble, but it is still making this out to be the important element.

Hm...
A lot of people on this thread seem to be hastily assuming that if the Seed Bismuth is a sentient entity in these ruins, then it is not in the Court. But this is not necessarily true.
If this being is telling the truth, then it sounds like what we're seeing is just the visible portion of a spirit distributed across the entire ruins. This implies that the spirit is in the buildings themselves -which in turn implies that the buildings in the Court have the potential to host a similar collective spirit.
So, here's my hypothesis: what we're seeing now is but one shard of a shattered spirit. This spirit belongs to both the Court and the Forest together, and not to either one individually. As mentioned before, it's a broken, ailing spirit; it has a gaping wound in its heart called the Annan Waters.

SB = Seed Bismuth Sb = Antimony The truth is more mundane. Sb is simply short for Stibnum. The initials of seed bismuth is a cool coincidence, but merely a coincidence.

Later it turns out that Kat is Tellurium and together they form...
... Antimony Bismuth Telluride!
They grow an etheric semiconductor factory and everyone is happily ever after

I think its a trick because of the shape in panel 3. Also I feel as if they had to have taken a Seed Bismuth or part of one to the Court side when they had to move. It seemed like they quickly set up buildings on that side.

I'm more thinking it's a trick, or a mind reading monster or something because:
"That was the seed Bismuth, there at the founding of the court. No-one knows what it looks like"
Annie walks into the forest
"Oh hi, I'm the seed bismuth"

When I saw that last panel, the only thing I could think of was how "abrupt" the introduction of the SB was.It didn't inspire or provoke a great reaction, which I feel rather guilty for. But whether this might be the real deal or a trick, I can definitely say that I look forward to tomorrow.
There is indeed Coyote running around, perhaps literally, but there is also no stopping this to be genuine plot revelation. Still, I thank you all for pointing out the possibility of a trick. I'm bracing for it now.
So, if this is genuine, anyone think the title refers to a "crash course" to the comprehensive history of Gunnerkrigg?

Maybe annie's ability to 'attract' etheric creatures will also be explained as more than just 'because fire elemental'.

It's been a mystery for so long so it does seem very sudden buuut I think it's real. Ysengrin had been forest medium for who knows how long, so if there's something special about that role and the seed bismuth it would not have much of a chance to make itself known. Plus the forest people avoid that area so they wouldn't know about it.
If it was Ysengrin's intention all along for her to meet the spirit, she might be in danger too. (not because of the monsters, but because of the spirit itself)
