I've been waiting for a comic like this for years. Rey tried to kill Annie, and from there it seemed like they became friends very fast. That's a huge jump. Nice to see Tom finally address it (and it a way that feels very honest).

I think you may be mistaking Reynard's sense of honour for squeamishness. These two obviously have some history together, and if anything he'll kill her because she represents a part of himself he isn't very proud of. It's not really the same as killing the daughter of your beloved or a pacifistic dragon-thing that had friends inside the court. Hetty has tormented this kid for who knows how long and now she's planning to kill him, just as renard almost did. I don't think he'll feel very guilty if he kills her, if anything it might bring him peace.
...And even if he DOESN'T, he's not going to let her make the same mistake he did. Rey will probably give her a Coyote-esque lesson.
Also, has anyone else noticed that Hetty's apparently running on the same demon juice that Zimmy's on? Red eyes + black scraggly look? I knew she was bad mojo from the start so I'm super-biased.

Well, this is interesting. I wonder how he'll light the fuel. I also wonder if something along these lines wasn't his intent from the very beginning.

Nitpick: You reap what you sow. You wear what you sew. (And yes, they are pronounced the same, or nearly so, in most versions of English. The other version of "sow", that rhymes with "now", is a barnyard animal.) I have a feeling that was a pun, not an error. Using similar words in wrong context on purpose to invoke a humorous response by changing the meaning to something crude/rhyming/funny that is related to the topic. Twas a pun indeed, dear friends! Though I thought it wouldn't work because usually my puns are only funny in my head. Point is, you go around trying to injure young, clueless children and you're going to end up on fire. That's just how life is.

So Rey remains a murdering psychopath. Ethics are not applicable only for people we like and not applicable for people we do not like. Rey's a cute wolf shaped thingy that loves Anne. He also is a "demon" thing who possesses living beings and as a result kills them. He's killed two "people" up to now. Lets see him kill a third? Even if the little dolly demon is a psychopath herself Rey is not judge, jury and executioner. Let's keep in mind that he's a centuries-old nature spirit from the time of the Crusades- he may have modernized simply because everyone else has, but I'd be surprised if he didn't act like a psycho every so often- dueling for one's honor, for example, didn't fully die out until the late 1800s, and if someone actually challenged you to a duel over some insult nowadays you'd certainly think they're crazy. He may view murder of Danny and attempted murder of Annie as dishonorable because they weren't combatants or threatening anyone. Sivo's death was the result of a fight (and therefore honorable for both parties if we go by pre-modern ethics...), and if he kills Hetty that's because he's protecting a child and punishing her for (presumably) the murder of Adam's sister, in addition to defending his own honor. That doesn't mean he's right in doing so, just possible explanations. I don't expect him to throw the match. I agree about his medieval background and his sense of honour, but I think he has changed living in the Court. And anyway what could happen to a porcelain doll. She'd need a paint-job and a new wig, so what.

It's also important to keep in mind that Hetty offered to 'get rid of' Annie not too long ago. A mere couple of minutes, in comic time. After discovering that Hetty is willing to flat out murder Adam, after possibly killing his younger sister, if anything Rey could believe himself to be preventing two murders.

OHHHHH my God, Corvo! You managed to actually pick out my absolute favorite bit in my favorite movie for my favorite webcomic. 5000 points! Harry's scream and how he just stands there motionless while he's on fire never fails to amuse. But yeah, exactly. Mess with children, get burned. It's science.

OK, one thing I've been puzzling over with this revisiting of the attempted taking of Annie is that the eye-with-slash symbol apparently didn't do anything to protect her. Is it purely advisory, then, and not an active device? If so, why? The most likely reason I can think of? It's a link to the etheric computer, but it needs to be manually activated. Otherwise the etheric energy would eventually run out like a battery losing charge by being used.

Don't think he'll actually set her on fire. First of all he'd need thumbs to use the matches and the only time he had those was in an one-off gag comic. Hopefully, my profile will do the deed of convincing you it isn't a one-off thing anymore.

Burning the doll might just free Hetty from her contract, as the destruction of Reynard's wolf toy would do the same. He might be basically telling her to get lost and stop bothering humans. That's not a bad idea; I never thought of that.
