I only just noticed Tom wrote those with bold. So, what's the significance?

yeah, I think this'd be a good approximation of Kat's reaction to the forums, too I only just noticed Tom wrote those with bold. So, what's the significance? Verbal emphasis.

This is more adorable than week old puppies wrestling with week old kittens. And definitely more adorable than weak old puppies and weak old kittens. How does one be an 'old puppy' anyway?

There's a possibility the symbolism of the heart is that Kat's going to get her heart broken. Twisty spec: she comes back after thinking about it, tells Paz that she doesn't really know how she feels yet, but she's willing to try going on very casual dates, and then it just doesn't work out at all for whatever reason. Sad feelings follow, but Paz is still glad she tried. This atmosphere of thwarted romance then sets the mood for a Parley vs Jeanne confrontation.
I think "I decided to see what would happen" is an appealing line of reasoning to Kat, who's all about figuring stuff out by tinkering and experimenting, so she might not give as strong a rejection as she would if Paz hadn't made the uncertainty clear. She wants to figure this out, too, though there's no guarantee it'll work out in Paz's favor (unless Paz is secretly a bird).

Someone mentioned the treatise and I looked back on it and now I have a bad feeling. Kat has a heart with a 'stop' or 'no' sign over it - like what would be put over a cigarette for 'no smoking'. Paz is telling her that she knows that '[Kat] and Annie are just friends'. I think... Kat is going to rebuff Paz and become upset that Annie just views her as a friend. At least, that's my current theory to fit with the symbolism on the treatise. It could also symbolise her denying her hearts desires, you really can't gain any foresight from the treatise, only hindsight I'd say that you can gain foresight, the satellite rocket appeared on a treatise before it did in the comic if I remember correctly.

Hey, another thought. Kat will talk with Paz and honestly explain that she isn't interested because actually she's into bird boys. Paz will think Kat tries to let her down in a particularly clumsy way or tries to mess with her head.

That would make me very super awesomely happy. I read this in City Face's voice. Remember, City Face was voiced by Vin Diesel.

Tom is so brilliant at drawing stunned Kat - I love the fixed, glazed expression and the little dots-for-pupils.

Well, of course. Kat is always at her funniest when stunned (just like when she learned about the tattoo or got closely acquainted with Lindsey).

Don't get me wrong - I want them to get together because Paz is adorable and Kat has been let down a lot by Annie lately and I think it would do Kat a ton of good to expand her social circle outside of 'Annie' and 'Annie's friends'. Good point for why Kat/Paz (well, Kat/anyone who isn't Annie) could be a good thing. And yeah, it's a good thing she's not like Annie. In that case I think she might have freaked out by now, if she's not interested. As it is... Whatever her reaction is, though, I wonder if she's flattered that she got a love letter from someone who isn't a robot, at least?

At first I thought this could work out positively for Paz, but now that I think more and more about it I can't see it ending in any way except in rejection for her.
Looking back through my memory of the comics, I can't remember any time when Kat showed the slightest interest in women before. She's never questioned her sexual identity, she changed her wardrobe because she didn't want people to think that she was something she wasn't.
She didn't want others to be confused about her.
Now, people will believe and say whatever they want to, but being concerned with what others think is a perfectly normal thing for a 14(? I've honestly lost track by now) year old girl.
Now maybe I'm wrong, and there has been a past example of Kat being into chicks, or rather, evidence that she might be.
However, what is happening now could be sort of a revelation for Kat about herself, something that will start a change in her. Who knows(Hint: Tom does).
We'll just have to wait for Monday to see what happens next.

By the way. Where is Merlin? To the best of my knowledge, Merlin hasn't been referred to yet in "Gunnerkrigg Court" (or any other Arthurian characters, either, though I remember that someone posted about the Lady of the Lake when Jeanne first appeared, back in Chapter Eight).

Poignant, sincere, and brave. Part of being brave is risking harm, incidental to Kat's reaction. You've got to admit, Paz has stones.
I keep thinking about Zimmy throwing away that headband. Was it an indication that Kat shouldn't worry so much, or that she should be more open minded about herself? Then again, it may have been a sign of nothing.

Who knows, maybe it'll even be a catalyst for some kind of abrupt change. Kat freaks out, seduces Jack who has a thing for lesbians and they run away to the forest together! They bump into Kamlen and the remains of some Tic-Tocs and it is SUPER AWKWARD. Next, Kat bio-engineers an evil elf-bird-bot! Annie thinks this is super hilarious and runs towards the forest laughing maniacally, Smitty and Parley in tow. Dear Santa, Please clear my wishlist. I have but one item I desire this year. one doth wonder what The Butt Zone thinks about this. i have a feeling it's mostly raving insanity. They've been posting the strip with Paz's last, and rather disastrous attempt, at holding someone hand. A rather large number seem convinced this is where it goes down hill. Some are convinced if she does say no, she'll do it gently. We've got this too: >Tom dies suddenly>implying there would not be a crazy, multi-national, midnight heist on Tom's hardware to post the entire backlog immediately. What do you take us for? Casual fans? These contingencies were YEARS IN THE MAKING! ;D

As for evidence, if you haven't noticed the background events and what seems to be something really bothering Kat, then there is no hope for you >Tom dies suddenly>implying there would not be a crazy, multi-national, midnight heist on Tom's hardware to post the entire backlog immediately. Breaking into the house of a dead man sounds easy You never know. Tom probably mines the front walk and sets up tripwire shotguns when he's away at cons.

This is Tom we're talking about.
It's trained attack spiders. There is no other possible solution to home security.

Attack spiders? That doesn't seem quite like Tom's style. He probably has a few Tic-Tocs fluttering about his property as an alarm system, and a few Seraphs inside for the really determined folk (not to mention the single laser cow in the garage). For the fans, of course, he will just have a GC side story on his table; the ending of it will be a cliffhanger big enough to give any unprepared reader an instant stroke.

I/m not seeing Paz getting her wish here. The first thing Kat does when Paz approaches is t lean away from her and the first word out of her mouth is "But". I'm sure Kat will let her down gently though, considering her confusion over her own feelings earlier.
