Maybe the audience is unusually gay? Would gay men be more likely to identify with girls than boys? that doesn't seem likely? Well, let's say unusually queer, then.

Well, I'm a guy and I identify with Paz, because she's simply the character closer to me personality-wise.

I thought queer was a catch-all* for non-hetero/non-cis?
*not like that!!!

I am outraged that there is no Boxbot on this list! He's included in "Other", which makes all the other characters included in "Other" terrible by association.

Well, I'm a guy and I identify with Paz, because she's simply the character closer to me personality-wise. You're also totally queer. I find your assertion that normal, totally hetero men cannot identify with females disturbing. I would point out that the predominance of female choices is probably driven by the rather shallow pool of likeable male characters. I chose Kat because she is (1) awesome and (2) behaves in a manner similar to how I would behave in most of the situations in the comic (except for the inventing robots bit, I can't do that). There might be minor characters I am more similar to, but I find it difficult to identify with characters that don't talk much, or have only been around for a chapter or two.

I thought queer was a catch-all* for non-hetero/non-cis? *not like that!!! In gender studies generally it is just that: anything that is not "normal hetero-normative behaviour" tm is queer. And because sex is the most basic definitive characteristic, normal heterosexual people should only identify with people/characters of same sex (not according to gender studies generally, but according to the heteronormative paradigm, so to say). Doing otherwise should be very rare according to heteronormative view, and queer by definition. Therefore, if according to one survey a large majority of GKC's audience consists of young male readers, and according to another a large majority identifies with female characters, and assuming that both surveys accurately represent the totality of GKC's audience, then it pretty much must be so that GKC's audience is unusually queer. But hey, be here and be queer.

To be fair, we're identifying WITH the characters, not AS. If it meant that we're queer then we might as well all be fict-kin too.

Except that "if queer by identifying with opposite sex comic characters then fict-kin" argument does not apply to me, as I am not in that first group.

fict-kin is an odd group of people with alternative personal identities. They believe that certain fictional characters are more accurate to their personalities than themselves. Basically they are people who identify as people like Harry Potter, Galadriel, any fictional character. Very odd.

They believe that certain fictional characters are more accurate to their personalities than themselves. Basically they are people who identify as people like Harry Potter, Galadriel, any fictional character. Very odd. I'm sorry, I have quite an open mind, and believe in all kind of different states of gender identity, sexuality, sex drive or what have you, but that for me, is just calling tables chairs.

It just seems to be a self esteem issue to me. Like they don't think they're even good enough for themselves. There is an entire spectrum, called otherkin. I learned all of this from a Cracked.com photoplasty. I am glad that that is the extent of my knowledge.

I've decided that I'm more like the headmaster, because I act like such a grumpy old grownup. My favorite cereal is even the the whole grain and flax seed stuff that doesn't have any sugar! Also he seems most like Frank Underwood from House of Cards who is the fictional character that I identify most with in general.

(I recommend looking into Grape Nuts as well. If you're really looking to be a grownup, check out steel cut oats. They put hair on your chest, scout's honor.)
