Hmmm, first thing I thought here was 'MUUT!'
But I'm betting it's mreo of a 'Y'all are so screwed' kind of thing coming form the Woods.

Looks all Aztec-y. Some kind of hieroglyph/pictogram thing? And yeah, I think it is some sort of message from the Woods, but prob'ly not along those lines.

I think it looks vaguely like North Pacific Native American art, like something off a totem pole. As for what it means, I'm stumped.

I think it can be summed up as the god saying "Ready or not, here I come".

I agree that it does look evocative of the art on Pacific Northwest totem poles. (Amazingly so, given that Gunnerkrigg is somewhere in Great Britain.) I doubt that it has anything directly to do with Muut, since he's from the American Southwest. I do feel fairly certain, however, that it's connected to what's creeping out of Gillitie (a warning of its emergence, perhaps?).
Side-note: Annie and Kat's fashion sense (now that school's out and they're no longer wearing almost identical uniforms) shows clearly once again how much their friendship is a case of "opposites attract". Annie's wearing a long-skirted dress, and Kat a t-shirt and jeans. (And I seriously doubt that we'll ever see Annie in a t-shirt and jeans, or a mini-skirt, unless it's part of some official uniform.)

Actually Kat is wearing cargo capris I clearly don't keep up enough with clothing terminology.

IT'S THE DARK MARK!! *cough cough* you guys can shoot me now... I couldn't help but think the same thing as you, fuzzysocks , and don't worry, if you get shot, I'll probably get shot too! I like that flying glowing sky thingie. In fact, I love pretty much anything that's shiny ;D I love the artwork that's been done on it, very nice. As for the meaning of all this, all I have to say is DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!

Ah those silly floaty sky things. Never know when they'll show up. Some days it seems like you can't even turn around without another one popping into existance up there, blazing on about its ominous foretelling stuff.

Oooh, how about this: The Court has an alarm system that sets up huge floaty things in case of attack from Gillitie. And it's also linked somehow to the teachers/administrators, so that they can prepare.

Oooor it could be the batsignal to one party (the Woods, most likely) and the dark mark to the Court.

Now you're just getting your popular fantasy/sci-fi getting mixed up; the Imperial March has never been played in Harry Potter I was trying to decide whether it was a Native American or an Egyptian design, but I can see the Aztec-ness now too. Ponderous. It's a pretty shade of green whichever way ;D One thing I did notice is the central 'eye' shape/symbol. Made me think of the No-Eyes sign in Chapter 3, linky.

Kat: What is THAT?
Mrs. Donlan: Oh that. The local Forest gods paid to have a gigantic advertisement logo hovering over the house. Nothing to worry about.

One thing I did notice is the central 'eye' shape/symbol. Made me think of the No-Eyes sign in Chapter 3, linky. I saw that as a mouth and the things to the sides in the upper part as eyes, but now I look again, I do see that what I first saw as a mouth, looks more like an eye (did that make sense?) I doubt that the details of the FST really are important. But it looks neat EDIT: Of course a figure with an eye instead of a mouth could have some symbolic meaning. I dunno

But still....) I think it looks very aztec-y. I also wonder where Rey is. He could probably explain all this even better than Mrs. Donlan can...if you could get him to talk about it at all.

Maybe it's some kind of seal being broken? Like the symbol is the leftover bits of whatever was holding the thing in the woods, in the woods?
