Hmm, I think Kat's mom was looking out the window as she said that. Also, poor Annie... I think her hopes for her father returning are completely unfounded. I hope not, but I'm a cynic. I very much like her outfit, v. cool, Tom. Is there an Antimony pendant on the end of her necklace there? And, as usual, early post available at: www.drunkduck.com/Gunnerkrigg_Court/index.php

I also notice that Kat is wearing Aly's old shirt. I guess she DID take that pretty good haul!

We don't often see Annie in civvies (Chapter Eleven was the only other occasion in the webcomic, to date). Not surprisingly, she still dresses in a formal and elegant fashion (I seriously doubt that we'll ever see her in t-shirt and jeans; Kat, yes, but not Annie).
Annie was dressed in the school uniform on the title page of Chapter Fourteen, though, so unless that was simply a shortcut on Tom's part to make her immediately recognizable, I suspect that she'll be going back to that as she waits at the Court to hear from Anthony (who will probably be a no-show).
As I suspected, the Donlans invite Annie to spend the summer with them - but we'll have to wait until Friday to discover what's gotten Mrs. Donlan's attention. (Probably something to do with the forces emerging from Gillitie Wood.)

Annie's probably wearing two necklaces: the Antimony pendant we saw in ch 3, and the flicker stone, which Annie hung on a necklace in ch 9.
I really like Mrs. Donlan's hair.

I also notice that Kat is wearing Aly's old shirt. I guess she DID take that pretty good haul! Well, no point in letting it go to waste... Mrs. Donlan does seem to be looking through the window in that second to last panel, but she's facing the wall after that. Maybe someone's doing light signals outside?

She might not necessarily be facing the wall. It's possible that she's still staring at that window. And the wall's sort of to her left ...
Hmm, my guess is that it's something to do with that unlit lamp in the last panel of the previous page. Just a stab in the dark though.

I thought the reason why Mrs. Donlan felt that something was odd is because she *might* have felt a vision when she touched Annie's shoulder, maybe about her father or perhaps that she feels that Annie will soon have to do something in Gillitie Woods.
Or she can just feel the sinister presence of that God that is going to emerge of the woods later on.

Kat's probably upset now. She'll be wheedling and cajoling Annie to stay with them after all.
Hmm. Maybe Anja's remark doesn't have anything to do with the forest and the God at all? The way she's looking at the wall, it's almost like she's noticed that something that used to be there is missing. I'm just speculating, though.

Maybe she noticed Kat's shirt. Probably something else though.

I think she saw the god....or felt the coming of some sort of presence. She is a witch/sorceress/mage, after all.
Or maybe that's what Tom wants us to think, and it's something else entirely.

Hmmm, I wasn't sure about where she was looking, actually... I mean, it seemed like she must be looking out a window or something, and the time of day seems right for the VNM to be walking out of the forest (could she see the forest from there, I wonder? Is that their home, or jsut a teachers apartment? Hard to tell on all counts) BUT, I was also getting the impression that she wasnt staring at that blank wall, and that Tom was just using it to maintain the suspense.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure she was looking at something....something that's not a wall, I mean, or a vision in her head.

Hadn't considered a vision... It's really hard to tell with her because she has those creepy eyes. I dont think it's like Zimmy-eyes just that they're a little strange artwise to give us an impression of her personality.

Aw, I like her eyes! And I think Tom would have done something miore interesting graphically had it been a vision. Like a hint of her purple-y greek design-magic, or something.

I assumed Anja's all-black eyes are just a stylized depiction of dark Romani eyes.
I'm leaning towards Bobbey's vision hypothesis, considering that she doesn't move after touching Annie's shoulder. She's already proven herself fluent in demon containment magic, so her having second sight wouldn't be that much of a stretch.

Or maybe she just noticed something weird about Annie in general! Maybe it's 'cause Rey wasn't there, or Annie gained some characteristic that makes her more like Surma.
Am I too Wild Spec?

Bit Wild Spec there, but, I was thinking along Mezzaphor's lines. The eyes are like that beacsue thats Anja, but it still makes it hard to tell where she is looking. =P

Oh ... I thought she was looking out of a window, or something. Far too normal an assumption I guess.

Somehow Anja's black eyes don't bother me at all. I hadn't even thought of that she may be sensing something about Annie, but it makes sense considering it looks like her hand's still on Annie's shoulder in the last panel. Then again "Well, that's odd" is typically something you say when something's JUST out of the ordinary, like something's missing that should be there though... something missing... like a window? Maybe Mort's playing around.

I just assumed Anja was Asian in some way. Kat looks like she might have a bit of Japanese or Chinese in her.

Anja's either Slavic or Romani, based on the name. I'm more inclined towards Rom (Gypsy magic, anyone?)

Romani, I think that it's been stated either in the comic or by Tom.

Wow, I didn't even think my hypothesis would even get noticed! It was the first thing that came to my head when I first read the strip... I guess it was because of that second to last panel where Anja just seems to be staring at Annie for a few moments and then turns her head as if she was concerned about something?
That's just the feeling I got from it.

Romani, I think that it's been stated either in the comic or by Tom. Mrs. Donlan's entry in the Cast page mentions "she appears to be of Romani descent". And in ch 5, Reynardine refers to Kat as Annie's "Gypsy friend".
