If Ian McDiarmid isn't in this movie, I will not watch it. Put Ian McDiarmid somewhere. Headmaster Llanwellyn. Seconded!

I'm still trying to figure out who could possibly play Kat And just because she's my favorite actress, I would like Emily Browning to make some kind of appearance in this movie. Maybe Jeanne?

Danny Devito as Diego, maybe?

Danny Devito as Diego, maybe? Not Nearly geeky enough. We need an actor that looks like a greasy Geek, with some redeeming qualities. Diego is not a Latin-American gangster. Jon Hodgman could fit (A spitting image - but he has had very few acting roles) , or that Patton Oswalt (Could be made to resemble diego, but has rather more acting experience) Why is Jones, Smitty, Parley and Dr.Disaster not allowed to be in the movie? and are there only 4 students in the entire class that get actors? also- could Nathan Fillion could play somebody ? popculturenerd.com/2010/01/26/nerdy-hot-10-list-female-edition

Why is Jones, Smitty, Parley and Dr.Disaster not allowed to be in the movie? and are there only 4 students in the entire class that get actors? Haha they weren't "not allowed" to have actors in the movie. I said in the first post that those were the only main characters I could think of immediately and that there could be people added to the list. The only reason Smitty, Parley, Jones, and Dr. Disaster weren't mentioned in the first post is because when I was thinking of main characters, they didn't come to mind. Lemme go back and edit the post...

Maybe Kat Dennings? She may be a bit short for Parley, though. Uhhh... Julianna Rose Mauriello? where is Jeremy Irons in this cast? I see a problem here. Jeremy IronsI always imagined the administrator bot to have Anthony Daniels' (AKA C-3P0) voice. Especially when he said "Oh my, how polite."

I binged on Spaced the other day, and realised Peter Serafinowicz doing his Duane voice would fit Ysengrin perfectly.

PLEASE. He'd have to buff up a little bit and get back into his tortured Mal mindset, but it could be great.

What a fun thread! Thanks for posting! I agree that if Gunnerkrigg Court were ever adapted into a film, I would prefer it to be animated. However, while I read and re-read Gunnerkrigg Court (or any work of fiction), I tend to imagine the voices and/or their characters portrayed by actors and actresses, so I got pretty stoked filling this out. Note: Perhaps the actors may not look exactly like the characters I assign them to, but I like to imagine if that they dyed, cut, and stylized their hair and wardrobe or applied make-up, then they would look more like their character in a live-action film (as opposed to an animated film). I was going to post pictures of my suggestions, but I realized that it would take a whole lot of space, so instead, I posted links. Click on the actors' and actresses' names to view a picture!Antimony CarverI rather do agree with having Saoirse Ronan as Annie! But if I had to choose a back-up actress it would be Chloe Grace Moretz. Katerina DonlanI never realized how hard it was looking for an actress (or just any female celebrity) who can pull off Kat's look. I've narrowed it down to three. Ellen Page OR Olivia Thirlby. Yes, Page and Thirlby are no longer teens, but they still look relatively young and don't seem to age much since their acting careers took off. Also, Page tends to play tomboyish, goofy, comical, and industrious characters, very much like Kat. Amber Liu is my third choice. And I know Kat isn't Asian, but let me explain my reasoning. Amber Liu isn't an actress; she's actually a Korean Pop artist in an all-girl Korean Pop group, f(x). The reason why I would cast her is because she's the only celebrity I know who has lifted “anime-like, spiky” hair like Kat's. If Amber can dye her hair black, then it would be perfect. If Olivia Thirlby would stylize her hair like Kat's she would be perfect too. Reynardine (voice) Sean Schemmel, the voice of Goku from the American dubbed version of Dragon Ball Z television series. Skip to about 3:20. Coyote (voice) Linda Young, the voice of Frieza from the American dubbed version of Dragon Ball Z television series. Skip to about 3:40. Because Coyote seems like a sly, mischievous, trickster I kinda imagined him with an imp-like voice. Ysengrin (voice) Christopher Sabat, the voice of Vegeta from the American dubbed version of Dragon Ball Z television series. Skip to about 4:30. ZimmyIsabelle FuhrmanGammaDakota FanningRobot (voice) I have no idea since they're most likely going to computerize someone's voice. Shadow 2 (voice) I, too, have no idea since Shadow 2's voice is supposed to sound like a combination of Annie and Kat's voice. Surma Carver (as an adult) Rachel WeiszAnthony Carver (as an adult) Tobey MacguireSit James Eglamore (as an adult) I can also see Colin Farrell playing as Eglamore! But if I had to choose a back-up actor it would be Eric Bana. Donald Donlan (as an adult) Colin HanksAnja Donlan (as an adult) Charlotte GainsbourgJones Kristanna Loken. Funny thing is that she played a robot/android in Terminator 3. Second choice would be Charlize Theron. But honestly, I don't know any actress who looks like Jones and who can best portray Jones's almost expressionless face. Dr. DisasterI agree that Christopher Lloyd should play him. SmittyDylan EverettParleyJennifer LawrenceDiegoStephen RootJeanneCharlize Theron(After seeing Snow White and the Huntsman, I suppose I made the comparison.) Headmaster LlanwellynMichael NyqvistJack HylandCainan WiebePazSelena Gomez or Ivana Baquero (I know this is a weird choice, but I honestly cannot think of any young Latina actresses who best suits Paz's character—or any other actress who's not necessarily Latina.) Red (as a human) Jena MaloneBlue (as a human) Hailee SteinfeldMortWhenever I read scenes with Mort, I'd imagine him sounding like Seth MacFarlane's character, Peter Griffin, in Family Guy. Mort is kind of a goofball, so, that's how I made the connection, I guess. However, I know Mort is supposed to be the ghost of a boy, so, this suggestion is kinda terrible. I decided not to provide a link to a video since every video I've found of Peter Griffin may be too inappropriate, hehehe. Thanks for looking through my post. I'm indecisive on some of my casting suggestions, considering some of them may be strange or inappropriate suggestions. That is, I would assume some people would ask, "Why on Earth would SHE play as HER?" or "HE as HIM?" I wonder if other people have better suggestions for actors and actresses to play the characters. Also, I understand that Gunnerkrigg Court is based on boarding schools in the UK. If Gunnerkrigg Court was adapted onto a live-action film, would it be played by actors and actresses from the UK? Kind of like how J.K. Rowling wanted the characters in the Harry Potter movies to be portrayed by actors and actresses from the UK... I'm from the US and I know very little UK actors and actresses, hehehe. Sorry.

I stand by my initial choices from that other thread with Bryce Dallas Howard as (adult) Surma and Robert De Niro as the Headmaster. But Sean Connery as Mr. Thorn is a good call! You'd only need to convince him to take up acting again!

You'd only need to convince him to take up acting again! Oh yeah! I totally see Bryce Dallas Howard as Surma! And Robert De Niro as the Headmaster. De Niro is good at acting nonchalant, uninterested, in a condescending and comical way, of course.

I have only one point, as I don't really care much for movies or actors. Mr. Eglamore should be played by some handsome and ridiculously muscular hunk. While you can disagree about the looks, Farell is both too young and not muscular enough. Brad Pitt would be kind of perfect, just watch Troy: cut the hair, dye it black, and you've got your Jimmy Jims right there. He is also about the same age with Jimmy too I guess - but if the actor should be English, that is a problem (though that would be a problem with Farell too, wouldn't it?). Perhaps Pitt could learn a good English accent, which would remove the problem.

Pitt's rather squinty-eyed; it's just how he looks, I suppose. Eglamore's got the same squinty-eyed stare. I only say Colin Farrell because, Kennedy, who posted this thread suggested Colin Farrell and I couldn't unsee Farrell as Eglamore. But good call with Brad Pitt.
