So, Lindsey, Bud, and their kind are Merostomatazoans. Not sure if Tom meant zoan and not zon, but yea, Merostomatazoan gets no hits. Basically Tom said that they are related to extinct sea scorpions and Horseshoe crabs. While she looks more like a crab (decapod) than a horseshoe crab or sea scorpion, I'm not going to bug Tom over the phylogeny and body plan specifics as they are already heavily mutated what with the two mouths and multiple eyes.

What species is Bud, I wonder? Same species as Lindsey? Which I guess we can call Merostomatazons. Also, I guess Annie and Kat didn't get the memo on Lindsey being their friendly athropod dorm mother.

Haha, why are so many people concerned with the absolute Real-world correctness of the strictly GC world phenomena :?
Anyway - mr. Tom, as usual, keeps nimbly hopping way over any expectations I could ever have for the comic - thanks a bunch, mr. Tom !
Lindey is so cool õ_õ Can't wait to se Bud
PS: I wonder whether they (Lin and Bud) have any dealings with the Gillitie Wood folks - I understand they are still mostly animal, rather than machine. Or is it that Coyote was against providing them with a pool of large enough dimensions ?

I don't really care if Tom makes it zon instead of zoan and Tom probably chose some arthropod group name that sounded cool or fit the best, and it works just fine for me. If you want some really wierd creatures, go to the Cambrian explosion Edit: Just for creativities sake, maybe her husband Bud is a cross between an Anomalcaris, an Opabina, and a more standard crustacean to give some legs and claws to use.

I love that Lindsey is "an accredited couples therapist", despite being unable to feel loneliness.

I can't quite say why, but I really love the "*I am unable to feel loneliness." It reminds me of Bobby's pigeon story, adding that final hit of uncanniness.

I love that Lindsey is "an accredited couples therapist", despite being unable to feel loneliness. Just because she isn't lonely now doesn't mean she felt that way at some point, and where has it been said she is unable to feel loneliness? EDIT: Shoulda looked closer. I guess thats meant to help drive home the point of how alien her brain must be. Also, if her species is generally a solitary species, that would make some sense.

Well I think it's an ace choice. Not that anyone else cares, but the Polish taxonomic name (yeah, we have those instead of copypasting Latin names - less simple, more fun) for that group translates (word-for-word) roughly as "ancient crayfish" or if you go one level of phylogeny down (ordo Eurypterida) you get "giant crayfish". So basically, Great Old Crab Ones, and to hell with how they actually looked ;D

The internet has obviously spoiled me, since the thought that Bud might be of the same species as his wife never even crossed my mind.

I wonder what those "not-eyes" are. Perhaps they are able to see (or some equivalent to seeing) into that other dimension mentioned...

How come no one is commenting on the fact that they are 10 meters down? That still could count as bottom time for diving.

Yay Abyss reference. Also, possibly, Cthulhu mythos, viz thinking in other dimensions.

I wonder if part of the point behind Lindsey is to move the comic back a bit more to the "delightfully oddball boarding school" depiction of Gunnerkrigg earlier, to balance the revelations of its dark secrets in the recent chapters (the Founders murdering Jeanne, the present faculty deceiving Reynardine, etc.).

I hope that will work, and story will become more deeper and many-sided with time.

I wonder what those "not-eyes" are. Perhaps they are able to see (or some equivalent to seeing) into that other dimension mentioned... That is possible. Also, it could mean the same thing as false eyes which are a defensive adaption to trick predators who don't like to attack if they think they can't surprise their prey.

What kind of predator could even consider to attack Lindsey or one of her conspecifics?
