Hi everyone. New guy here. I have thought of something interesting. The treatise pages Tom puts up have clues to future events right? Well the last treatise page, found here www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=560, shows Kat leading Annie back to the court from the forest. Possibly hinting that Kat, or at least the thought of Kat, will bring Annie back? There's a lot about that picture that stands out to me, actually. For one thing, Annie has Coyote's eye and has the fire-hair thing going, Rey is standing out on the bridge, and there's a shadowy figure up in the corner who doesn't look entirely unlike Jack. Also, Jeanne's sword (I think?) is just laying on the ground there. I think there's some foreshadowing going on here. EDIT: Also, the Latin in that logo is 'land' 'air' 'water' with 'finite good' below it. Perhaps it's something to do with pollution/using up existing resources, given the smokestacks on the court-side of the picture. EDIT2: Also that 'visit the stars' poster's picture of the moon has annie's fingerprint on it.

I can't remember where exactly that illustration is placed in the scheme of the storyline, but Kat has already once brought Annie away from the forest area... when she rescued her from the chasm. I do like that idea, though.
As far as the bandwidth topic is concerned... best to nip it in the bud before it becomes a trend. Once is no biggie, but it can get out of hand pretty fast. Besides, webcomic artists usually dislike it when their comics aren't being viewed in its natural habitat... the site itself. Takes away from page views, ads, etc. I'd like to avoid anything that could potentially harm the site and Tom, even the tiniest bit.

...Rey is standing out on the bridge... Could Annie possibly become so very, very angry over this that she abandons Rey? Besides Rey is Annie's symbol - does this represent her ownership of Rey? Long story short, is the Rey-Annie dynamic duo about to split completley?

..seriously? It takes more to load the page, since you have HTML and various other images and things that load too. Not to mention, the difference is pretty insignificant in the greater scheme of things. But there are ads on the full page to help offset the bandwidth used by potentially bringing in money. That applies to all websites, not just Gunnerkrigg Court. If you respect the site and/or site owners, link to the full page to let them benefit from the ads as much as possible. (What with ad blocking and extremely low click-through rates for most sites, every little bit helps.)

Long story short, is the Rey-Annie dynamic duo about to split completley? It could be a more amicable parting of ways, since he now knows the court tricked him and probably wants to leave.

But... they linked to the site in the first place. Am I missing something here or are we arguing for the same side again?

They edited their post. At first, it was just linked to the image.
Let's drop just it, it's pretty pointless and a waste of time to argue a proven point.

Huh, I never noticed until today that the entrance to the Woods looks somewhat different each time we see it.
It used to be enormous (and scary), as we saw when Shadow 2 was taken there; next time, it seemed completely closed until Ysengrin arrived to escort Annie; lastly, it appeared to be a bit more welcoming when, huh, Jolly came.
Or maybe we are just seeing different perspectives.

Anyways, I wonder how Annie will get along with the Court now that Rey's told her the truth? I can't forsee her wanting to go back anymore. Yet, the earlier narration in the story hinted that she was still in school by the time her father came back.

Now I mostly wonder whether this is a long chapter or a short chapter...

Yet, the earlier narration in the story hinted that she was still in school by the time her father came back. Really? All she said was that it would be at least 2 years until he contacted her. No hint as to her whereabouts then. Anyway, this page makes me wonder what other kinds of chalk they've got floating around. Maybe red chalk that makes a pop quiz appear on everyone's desk? Striped chalk that makes more instant-than-instant ramen?

Hmmm... even then, i can't forsee Tom laying groundwork for the Court: introducing new characters, backstory for Zimmy and so on, without getting Annie back into the Court since much of the events revolve around her.

Aww, I just thought about Kat finding her homework in Annie's room.
That's going to suck on top of all of this suckage. Luckily, Kat seems like the forgiving type.
Maybe Rey will be nice and slip it into Kat's room (assuming he is allowed out of Annie's room).

The joy of an update is oh so short-lived. :c You wait for two days, constantly checking the forums, until finally it is the day of the update. You excitedly click your GC bookmark and wait with bated breath. Then you fawn all over the new page excitedly and try to find people who read Gunnerkrigg to discuss it with. Then it's back to waiting again, constantly checking the forums and aaaaaaaahhh! D: (I've been awful obsessed with GC, lately).
Anyways, yeah, still sticking with her bumping into ol' Ysengrin first.

Yeah, I'm just going to say what we're all thinking: Eglamore looks kind of hot here.
So anyway! Anyone else notice the chalk is purple like Annie's makeup?

So anyway! Anyone else notice the chalk is purple like Annie's makeup? Well if so, it's a much darker shade of it. Besides, I think it resembles the pink/purple bubble more than her makeup.

I've been especially obsessed with this webcomic too, as of late (probably because it just keeps getting to the juicy stuff!). I wonder what people did when the forums didn't exist! I should make some fanart or something. -- I associated that purple more with Anja's brand of magic.

wasnt there a cartoon some years back about magic chalk? A long, long time ago. And it was British too. Also, on topic, it seems that there was enough presence of mind that all Annie wanted to do was stop Eglamore. The fire didn't really spread all that far, it was more of a wall, than a ball.

Sooo, who wants to bet Annie and Coyote's conversation will go like this:
'I killed my mom and the court let meeee!!' 'Yeah humans kinda do that sometimes. Here, to make you feel better, let me tell you MY GREATEST SECRET!!!' XD

With the fire around Annie in the treatise, the theory of Kat bringing her back to the court again doesn't seem unlikely. Heck, maybe she's like an anchor for Annie. And I've been obsessed with this comic lately as well. It makes weekends suck. :c

The ability to draw a "symbol" with chalk on any surface to product a magic effect is the central theme to the television show and movies of Full Metal Alchemist: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full_Metal_AlchemistIn that show Alchemy is everything to their world. The show follows two boys who perform forbidden alchemy in attempt to bring back to life their dead mother. They paid the ultimate price for doing such a move. But one of the boys, Edward, no longer needs to use chalk symbols to perform alchemy because he had taken a glance at the Door to the Afterlife. He's able to conjure up magic with mere thought. I'm sure Annie will never take the drastic step of performing dangerous Alchemy to bring back her mother. At least I hope not. It's one of the most awesome animes out there. I was so happy to see a reference to that show.

Casual wear? Kinda a odd choice for responding to a border alarm, considering he showed up in armor last time. Also firewall disabled, and it seems that Annie has disappeared off into the forest. I kinda get the feeling her return isn't going to be on pleasant terms. He's not a power ranger, I'm pretty sure he can't put on his dragon slayer armor in a flash.

No, but you'd think that if he's on call to go out there, he'd be dressed for the occasion.

Who knows? Note that Annie stopped being the narrator after the middle of Chapter Fifteen, that many of the more recent chapters revolved around the supporting cast with Annie having a much smaller role than in the early chapters, etc. And Tom's defied story conventions before ("Residential", "Spring-Heeled Part Two"); he might actually dare write his initial protagonist out of the story (at least, for a time) in this chapter, and find someone else for the role of "connecting character" to be tied to all the threads.

He probably thought that since Annie was out there alone, he could forego the armour.
