I realise this thread hasn't been active for a while and the project seems to have slowed down, etc- but I thought I'd post here anyway. First of all I would like to point out that I actually grew up in and live on the Isle of Man, home to the Moddey Dhoo. Which is why I was very interested to hear the auditions for him, since Tom took the time to write his voice in a Manx accent. Which I have to say is one of the hardest accents to do. Anyway, I wanted to say that I was impressed by XanBcoo's accent. A little too Yorkshire but that's just me being fussy and hey, it's better than I could do and I live here. I couldn't really hear zolen's accent through the effects though. Also, I would reeeally like to audition for this! I know it's at a bit of a standstill right now but regardless... However, I don't have a decent microphone or anything at the moment (though I've been wanting one for a long time), so I will probably sort that out first. I'd absolutely love to play Jones, but there are already good candidates for her... There are others I'm interested in too, though. This is an exciting project and I hope it gets going again!

The extreme delay is pretty much all down to me I'm afraid. However, Gunnerkrigg Court, Chapter 1 - The Shadow and the Robot should hopefully be finished some time tomorrow. It may have to be distributed via the forum for now, unless we set up another GKCFanProject YouTube account, as those of us with the password are still being denied access to the current one and Sandjosieph, the original account creator, has been lost in the wilderness for some time.
Anywho, once Chapter 1 is up and available we'll start sorting out chapter 2. The original auditions were a while ago now, but it only seems fair that those who won back then will first be contacted about reprising their roles. If we get no reply, or they decide they don't want to voice the character any more then new auditions will be opened up for Chapter 2 characters.
I hope that clears everything up. If there are any questions please PM me via the icon under my avatar.

I'll gladly have William's lines up by tonight. Tell me where to send 'em, and you'll have them. And if we need any other voices, I'll gladly fill in. I count it as good practice.

I'm just waiting for a little more feedback from my carefully selected focus group Then I'll open the final version of Chapter 1 to the public. After that anyone who wants to start putting in new auditions can ask me for the password to the YouTube account. Those who already have the part e.g. fuzzyone, hold onto your recordings for now, we'll sort something out. Miri collected them last time but I think her spare time is pretty packed at the moment, so they'll probably go to either me or Nikita. But as I said, we'll sort it out once Chapter 1 is up and running, that's the main thing. I've realised that we haven't got a Tea as Peachikeen hasn't been seen since 2010. She should really be present at the end of Chapter 1 but I think to save time the first 2 bonus pages will work well together at the end of Chapter 2.

You could do the bonus pages as a separate thing. That would give more time wait for Peachiekeen to show up or to look for a new Tea . And you can always add the bonus later on too ! Can't wait to see and hear the final product !

Post by Ulysses on Nov 9, 2011 16:43:41 GMT
I thought about it, but some of the bonus pages are chapter specific e.g. 3, 4, 8 and 9, and some just fit better where they are e.g. 5,6 and 10. I don't think the Treatiseseseses (someone stop me!) will be done justice squeezed into a YouTube screen, so perhaps when we get to Chapter 7 we provide a link to the actual comic page at the end of the video? Just thinking ahead. As for the here-and-now, I can't find any way to contact Peachikeen, so unless she turns up before we restart the auditions she's going to have to reaudition. Bonus pages 1 and 2 are generic, Court-explanation pages, and Tea isn't in it again til the end of Chapter 14, so I think putting 1 and 2 together at the end of Chapter 2 is the best way of going about it.
Aricos, are you still up for voicing Kat?

Ooh, smart thinking ahead! Perhaps a link to the start of the chapter as well? So anyone who stumbles upon the video can see the actual pages in their digital glory ? Of course I'm still up for voicing Kat! Do I still send things to Miri or am I supposed to send them to you or someone else now? I fear I haven't been in the loop much lately :/.

Good idea, I like it.
Hold onto recordings for now. Once the video is up and open to the public, then we'll sort things out.
Very close now...

"I couldn't really hear zolen's accent through the effects though." I practiced the accent, but there was no way to do it without the effects. Sadly I live in a house with a lot of background noise.
Edit: But I just found a mic that might work better. If anyone happens to know of where to find a Manx accent that would be awesome. (last time I could only find a 1 minute clip)

Manx accents are pretty hard to find online, but this www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyRXriXz7KQis a guy speaking in a more modern Manx accent. It's harder to find the older accents online. I could take a tape recorder to one of the tourist attractions sometime but I doubt they'd be best pleased If you don't live here then most people seem to find it very similar to Yorkshire, Manchester or sometimes even Liverpool.

It's been a week so I can announce that Starrylight, Fuzzyone and Aricos will reprise their roles as, respectively, Antimony, Willy Winsbury, and Kat from the original auditions.
A number of characters have opened up again though, so please feel free to audition for the following:
Anja Donlan
Basil the Minotaur
Tea(bonus pages of both Chapter 1 and 2)
Mythology Teacher
Please please audition, we want as many forum-goers involved as possible. Post a link to your audition in this thread. I will add the link after the character's name in this post. If you want it to be uploaded to TheGKCFanProject Youtube account, please contact me to get it uploaded. If you prefer another format or service, just post the link.

It'll be a few days before I can (Sore throat/no voice) But I'll gladly post up some samples of both Basil and the Mythology teacher... I have been criticized in the past for trying to be every male character in the project... but I'd really like to try and stretch myself vocally and attempt multiple voices on the same project.
If you'd rather keep it as one voice/character per chapter, I will refrain from posting, with no ill will.

I would really like to be involved in this project! Could I perhaps audition for Jeanne later? I think that role is still open.

Far as I know you can. However, it will be a long time before Jeanne speaks any lines. Maybe you could consider giving one of the open roles for chapter 2 a whirl? ANja... I mean, who WOULDN'T want to be the hot, frisky Nerd girl with awesome techno-and-not-so-techno-magic?

Fuzzyone has it right, feel free to put up an audition for Jeanne, but you will be waiting a looooooong time before you get to actually do anything.
As for Fuzzy, go crazy, I just want as many auditions as possible, so we have a good range to choose from. Feel better soon.

I was under the impression someone had already been chosen for her! As much as I'd love that, I don't think I will actually be able to work with the project- out of the computers I have access to, one is heavily blocked by my school and one is too old to properly download any nice programs. So I guess I'm recanting my claim.

The cast list as of the end of the last set of auditions (i.e. months ago) can be found here. Jeanne has not been cast up til now, so the field is wide open should you change your mind lilith. Perhaps by the time we actually get around to casting Jeanne (Chapter 25) you will be have the tech to audition.

Hi everyone. I've really been slacking on this. It's just been so long that I totally put it out of my mind until now. I am totally still up for playing Mort. Just let me know when you need the lines and I promise to actually get it done this time. I hope I still remember what he sounds like.

I had intended to post this yesterday, and then SoundCloud wouldn't let me upload. Weird. Anyway, for your considertion: My auditions for Basil and the boring mythology teacher.I don't know that I was comically boring enough for the teacher, and I'm much too neurotic to comment on my approach as Basil. Hopefully it's either good enough for consideration, or bad enough to convince someone else to do it =p

(may have to clean up some of the noise but otherwise works great!)

Well thank you. Yes, I seem to have forgotten everything I knew about mic handling. I think the one I was using may have a loose connection, too.
/Making excuses, I guess, heh.

Let me know if you ever have need of a very high-pitched female voice. And when I say high-pitched, I mean I sound like a small child on helium. Maybe for the fairies?
Also the only British accents I can do are posh and cockney.

www.mediafire.com/?ak4pnwa9m192dg0King Robot Enjoy the power of my boredom! p.s to shellmell 3 hours of attempting to replicate what I could of the accent, and it somehow sounded like a crappy Wales accent (no idea how) according to anyone who heard it. Seems, I can't pull it off with the references I have.

Okay, so I've tried to rerecord my lines for Anja! It was difficult to decide if it sounds good without any outside input. I'm open to any suggestions and criticism. So, what do you guys think? Does this work? I finally checked the forums again and talked to Ulysses in PMs, he told me to repost it here. Edit: Oh my god Zolen, that's a great recording! I love your take! So charming.

I'm glad to see some renewed interest in auditions, and some very strong entries from everyone Unless we get more auditions soon I am tempted to simply give out the roles to those who have auditioned for them, because we only have 1 actor going for each role right now, and I want to stop the Project hitting a block as it did before. It helps that no one has put in a bad audition However we still need someone to voice Tea, so spread the word! If we get more auditions I'll be happy to put them to the vote, but we desperately need a Tea. I know it's tempting to wait until a big, important role like Jeanne or Coyote opens up, but the bit parts need love too, or it'll be like the Project is trying to fly with one wing. Besides, they can be the most fun parts! Just look at the fairies in the most recent chapter, how fun are they going to be to voice?! But we have to get that far first, so, at the very least, we need someone to be Tea. Thank you!

I think a big problem is as I can tell, the editing dates, it seems you are unable to edit these pages. As such, it might be better to make a updated topic, under the control of someone who is still actively visiting. Nobody is entirely sure who has offered their voice and who is still in because the pages (one showing people who are voice acting and one showing people who have offered their voice) have not been updated within the last two months. (True you listed, but still, people tend to refer to the first post then look at the last.)
Maybe its time to offer a re-direction link to a new topic to hold it all in.

Has this project thread gone necrotic? I can clearly see a lot of work has been done.... but I dont want to waste anyone's time if this project is dying on the vine.... I'd be interested in submitting an audition for Ysengrin and Coyote.... I have heard the auditions published so far. I'm just trying to establish if this thread is still among the living before I spend time on developing a vocal.
Best regards, ~Metaforest
PS: the last leadership-oriented posting here suggested that many bit parts are still open but to my eye much of this thread is months old. What are you still needing for male voices?

zolen: That is a good idea. I will probably set up a new thread/threads some time tomorrow. Then I will have control over the list, and hopefully it will be less confusing. metaforest: The Project continues, albeit slowly. Feel free to put in auditions for Ysengrin and Coyote, I look forward to hearing them. They are not vocal characters until Chapter 14 though, so voting will not take place until after we have finished Chapter 13. That way we make sure the chosen voice actor is still around. As you can see, 3 of the role winners for Chapter 2, which were voted for nearly 3 years ago, are no longer forum users. We don't want that happening again, so voting will be done on a chapter-by-chapter basis. What I was saying about the bit parts is that nobody wants to be "Man with Umbrella", to take my favourite generic example from film, but they are still roles that need filling. If we can't fill the smaller roles the Project is unable to progress, just as much as if we can't fill the big, important roles. Luckily everyone wants to be an important character, so we shouldn't have a problem there
