All my sepeculation about Annie's reasons for what she does in this page has already been said, so I'll just comment that I love the way Tom drew her in the fourth pannel.

(This is a tongue in cheek way of saying that I think people are reading too much into things, as tends to be the norm.) Since I am usually the person irritated / jibing at that tendency, you should note that I think it is you who are doing so here. Jack is not present and a break has taken place since he left, so him being the cause of her facial expression is not as simple an explanation as it being a reaction to the other action in the panel. [EDIT: Especially since the action in the panel is a repeat!] Panels 2-3 are really awkward in your interpretation, because they serve no purpose other than to waste space to get to the end of the page, and Tom doesn't waste space. If Tom had intended to show Annie breaking down out of concern for Rey, I imagine he would have shown that. Instead, he demonstrates that her angry face starts out hidden from the MiB, a pause, then she twirls suddenly and shows the face of a frightened girl in need of assistance. I know you are irritated with the Jack-lovers who think he can do no wrong (when he's threatened Annie, intentionally insulted her to hurt her feelings, fallen down stairs, etc.), but honestly I think you have a bit too much of a rose-colored view of our lying, cheating, stealing, and awkwardly unsocial protagonist that it has caused you to miss what is portrayed by this page. (I remember that you have the interpretation that Annie interacts lots of time with her other classmates so Jack's statement of "ice queen" was completely unfounded.) It didn't help here that the inaccurate term "con" was first chosen to describe it, and I certainly don't disagree that she has some real, major, emotional concern for Reynardine, but there's an element of calculation being portrayed here, or else I'm rubbish at comprehension.

Wait so let me get this straight, bandit.
I've posted twice in this thread. Once was to refute the idea that Annie was being a damsel in distress or conning someone into being a damsel in distress. Which you said was inaccurate too, so you agree with me.
The second time was to refute a long post where a person iterated every thought that Annie was having at every moment of each frame, which I said was reading too much into things. Which again, you agreed that people tend to do that.
I advocated taking a simpler approach to just see the page for what it shows: Annie seeking help for her friend who is pain.
So, tell me again... how is it that I'm the one reading too much into things?
It seems that you're the one reading too much into ME, my friend. Please don't. I don't have many pet peeves, but people trying to tell me what I think and feel would be the one that I do have.

Sorry, just trying to help you see what I see the page as "clearly" showing. In the case of a next time, I shall endeavor to avoid supposition of where interpretation bifurcated since that would be reading into what you think and feel, and clearly our mutual understanding is lacking so I am probably way off base on such suppositions, anyway; I apologize for the offense.
There's certainly no harm to understanding the story in only seeing Annie seeking help for her friend who is in pain on this page.

It's okay, you're a good guy, we agree most of the time and I don't take things personally unless I think they're meant with malice, which I don't think you would do. *fist bump*

When I first read the strip I understood Annie's reaction to be genuine.
But, as has been said, her face in panel 1 combined with the slow reveal of her "worried" face in panel 4 make her reaction a little more ambiguous.
Either is likely, but it's certainly not perfectly clear either way.

Okay, then let's go with this:
Annie's worry about Reynardine in this page is indeed genuine.
Panel one is a mixture of her thinking about how to deal with Jack, and annoyance at the Court people for barging in.
Annie thinks fast, and decides to actively manipulate the Court representatives by putting up the "facade" of a girl who is border-line hysterically worried. This is just close enough to the truth to work.
Her aim in this being that if the Court guys have a hysterical girl to deal with, they might not think quite so much about the strange scene in front of them, and just move on "autopilot" instead.
Doesn't that reconcile all of the problems in this page? It also explains her delayed reaction.

That's basically what I though, KanKerai, I'm just too lazy to type it all up. She is genuinely worried about Reynardine, but she's also using the opportunity to avoid having to answer any silly questions like "What's going on here?" or "What are you doing here?" I doubt this tactic will work for long.

We'll probably find out which Annie's doing if/when the security team releases Reynardine from Jack's trap. If she tries to make a break with him, that'll support the "feigned distress" theory.
(I hope that Annie doesn't try that, though - she's in enough trouble already without adding "Evading arrest" to her list of charges.)

They used his "demon" name! (They used his "demon" name) You mean they used his... actual name? Shock! (He is Renard the Fox. 'Reynardine' isn't really his name.)

Silly thought: I don't know if Annie will get arrested for the power station incident or not, but I just had a vision of them announcing the various charges to her (breaking curfew, serving as Jack's accessory to trespassing and breaking and entering, etc.). In the course of it, they take her fingerprints, halt in the middle of that, check them over and do some cross-referencing, then add "lunar defacement" to her offenses.

Annie's Lawyer: "In addition to the serious charges being layed against you by the Court, you should know that the americans are also demanding you be extradited for the defacement of the moon and subsequent destruction of the apollo landing site, which they consider an act of terrorism."

If she will fail to distract them, she always can say "Damn, i see why you didn't caught Jack. Want to do it well, do it yourself!", melt down those bugs, grab a doll and fly after the madboy. What? All this clearly shows, is that Renard the fox... is a Fire-fox. Already called this one.
