Parley disagrees with your assessment, Jones.

When first we met Dr. Disaster, I thought it creepy a guy that looks so serious yet programs such cute simulations. Now, having seen him smile puts many questions to rest.
But raises many more.
Was Jones wearing pink for him? perhaps their respective neckwear are gifts from one another? will Smitty come to my house and help me finish Jade Empire? Who is Kaiser Soze?
sry. mind was blown for a minute there.

Who is Kaiser Soze indeed? Keyser Soze's brother?
And also, it is my belief that Jones made the scarf for herself.

My guess is that the scarf was a present from Randy and Jones is only wearing it out of courtesy.

A lot of theories about Jones being a robot. Not too sure myself.

But will we finally see Parley's psychic abilities show themselves? I'm really curious about what it could be ;D

Do we even know that she has psychic abilities? I think we need more evidence for that than her father's prediction.

Aww, Dr. Disaster's my new favorite character. If only because I keep hearing his voice as Prof. Farnsworth from Futurama's.
And if Parley glares any harder at Smitty he's probably going to drop dead.

So, I like some of the analysis that people are posting over in the on-page comments. Really, it's a shame that so many people comment there where it will be lost in 2 days, and never come here where their discussions will be saved forever.
But anyway, on topic... I think a few things are made clearer by this. The pink scarf... I interpret it now that Jones wore it because she knew Dr. Disaster liked it and it helps her to get time for her students in the imaging chamber. I mean, I think since she is teaching students at the school, she doesn't have to con him into using the imaging chamber since it's school property, but, Dr. Disaster is probably pretty fond of what I can assume to be his own invention, and it certainly helps to grease the wheels that the object of his fancy is making a little effort on his behalf when she comes around to use it. In other words, as an example of Jones's own mediation skills, she knows that things go better when she lets Randy feel like he is doing her a favor. As the expression goes, negotiation is the art of letting someone else have your way.
Also, on Dr. Disaster himself... the new side of his personality we see here makes me feel more that his stern and urgent demeanor in Ch 10 was him playing to the audience. There was a bit of a question of whether he was being so serious in a tongue-in-cheek manner (basically allowing himself to be a part of the kids' entertainment) or if he really took himself that seriously. Personally, I like the characterization that here's this guy who obviously is far advanced in his research and development, but he then takes this technological wonder he's created and turns it over to the children for their enjoyment. In that sense he would be like those male teachers of young students in the real world, the ones that wear funny bowties just because the kids would get a laugh out of it... teachers who do what they do because they really love kids. (And not in the creepy way... come on.)
When I grow up I want to be a scientist who creates technology that I can then give over to the children so they can play and have fun, and I can play along with them and facilitate their exploration. That's essentially what he does in Ch 10. I mean, that just sounds COOL.
Edit: I forgot to mention something someone else pointed out in the on-page comments. Did you notice this? Dr. Disaster, being smart, attempts to leverage the "failure" of the imaging chamber into a reason to go on a date with Jones. Jones, in turn, turns him down by removing the reason in the first place, by -complimenting- Randy. An incredibly fine display of tact and mediation on her part, to get out of going on a date with him not only not bruising his ego in the process, but by inflating his ego in the process. Very, very smooth. It's nice to see just how skilled Jones is in mediation, since up until now the only thing we've seen is her analyzing Annie's reactions when she was sizing her up for training.
It also raises the question, for me anyway, of why Jones instructs three students in mediation, but does not act as a medium herself in Chapter 14. I think there's something to that, but I haven't put my finger on in quite yet. As good as she is, they still put Parley (of all people) out there in front of General Ysengrin. This makes Jones even more mysterious, in my opinion.

Jones mentions that "they are beautiful, as always" which sounds to me like Doc has done this many times before. It's funny, for some reason I always pictured Doc to be married.

I'm only diggin myself deeper down aren't I? <distraction> y'know, despite her deadpan locked face, Jones strikes me as the kinda person that watches slapstick comedy reruns on TV. just a feeling. </distraction>

You know, I just noticed something... How can someone whose power is to subconsciously create order where there is none... have such mussed-up hair?

As the two works so borrow heavily from entry-level science fiction, I'd wonder if Dr. Randy (Randall?) Disaster isn't trying to avoid another science fiction theme; that as soon as a bureaucrat sees technology, they use it to gain power/hurt people. You don't have to worry about that if you are catering to kids.

Man, what does it take to get Jones to crack a friggin' smile? (More) flowers? No. Awkward pickup lines? No. Adorable skull bowtie? No. What else does Dr Disaster have to offer, aside from his receeding hairline and advancing dementia? Nothing. Stop leading that poor man on, you minx!

And todd, hers haven't begun to manifest yet, but they are expected to come. I'd still like to have evidence that she'll develop those powers from an independent source; so far, all of our evidence comes from her father's claim, and for reasons that I've given before, I'm cautious about accepting whatever he says on his word alone.

Jones stated here that "chances are good" and " he's shown some progress" and she is about as independent a source as I can think of.

I rather like how smooth Jones was. In a way this proves my thought that she's human. I always thought that she was human with some odd abilities, maybe a cyborg - which would certainly have an impact on her emotional makeup.
The reason is, only a human would naturally be this savvy in a social situation with another human. A machine or even android, however good their programming is still going to wind up a touch awkward as they learn how to interact. Instead, she's like some people who've learned how to move smoothly in any interaction, but still show little or no sign of emotion.
I think the reference that Jones can't use a blinker stone might be indicative enough: the forest works with magic, and a good number of etheric beings seem to be over there. This suggests one would have to be at least moderately psychic in some way or form, or have powers that influence the spirit world in some way, to serve as a medium. This would explain Smitty and Parley being with Annie in this mediation class. But it suggests that Jones can't really influence the forest creatures with any more than well-chosen words, along with some super-tough skin and kung-fu abilities should they get temperamental. I don't think that'd be terribly effective with a forest full of mystical creatures.
She can teach how to mediate, how to use words, how to defend oneself, and how to sort things out - but she can't do or teach the psychic/intuitive side of mediation. So her use as a teacher and advisor are probably best because of this.
