Another reason why Annie's thought balloon differs from Anja's:
Annie is told that the tattoos are a defense against Reynardine's possession ability, so she'd see them as a crucial form of protection and take them seriously. She's extremely serious herself (serious enough to be the only person in Dr. Disaster's classes who's pointing out all the plotholes and scientific impossibilities in the scenarios), and so it wouldn't occur to her that Anja and the other grown-ups might mix it with a wild party (or at least, the atmosphere of a wild party).

Haha, awesome! Panel 2 reminds me of Marjane Satrapi's artwork from the amazing 'Persepolis'. This is no bad thing. Loving the last three panels. WIN.

I think he's more worried that since he has "jean" as a subset of his forum name that people will assume he's a girl if he has a girl avvy.

Is Jean seriously a girl's name in the rest of the world ? Just ask wikipedia Jean is a common female given name in English-speaking countries, pronounced /ˈdʒiːn/. It is the Scottish form of Jane (and is sometimes pronounced that way). It is the equivalent of Johanna, Joanna, Joanne, and Joan. According to www.namestatistics.com0.315% of females in the US are named JEAN. 0.035% of males in the US are named JEAN.
