As predicted, Rey did no harm. I'm not interested in arguments that Annie just blinked out before he could do anything; Rey's just a big old softy, really he is, go ahead and rub his tummy.
I like the cave tattoo session with candles and both men half undressed. Woo hoo!
I also like that Annie defends her mind by imagining a medical-techno setting.

Kat is well on her way to mad scientist-ry.
Question: Who will be the first to get that symbol tattooed on their back for the sake of the fanart page?

Anja just moved up on my popularity list. With a Big leap.
I guess Reynardine just wanted to warn Annie. She will think twice before ever using the Blinker stone to spy on Coyote, or worse: Ysengrin.

That's it. Annie needs to go out to places that are not hospitals.

Ha...ahaha...AHAHAHAHhHAHAHAHAHhahaHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA
Oh god, those last three panels... Glorious.
I am in stitches, on the floor flailing about and laughing like Coyote himself.
(I got up for a moment to type this, and now I shall resume)

The timing on those last 3 panels is exquisite. If you ever made a gag-a-day strip, Tom, I would totally read it.

Nothing spells out confusion as much as imagining your own parents much younger, much wilder.

Now we know why Reynardine never possessed Eglamore during the time that Eglamore was his jailer - and I'll confess that I hadn't expected that to be the reason. (Though I knew that the crossed-out-eye symbols on the walls of the prison cell couldn't be sufficient explanation, or Reynardine could never have taken over the plush toy.)
And we have further evidence of just how un-hormonal Annie is, if that's how she imagined the tattooing procedure.

And we have further evidence of just how un-hormonal Annie is, if that's how she imagined the tattooing procedure. Or maybe Annie spent her entire childhood in a hospital, and thus has difficulty imagining smoke-filled dens, let alone imagining the science teachers hanging out in one. I wonder if it's significant that Surma, Anthony, and the mystery girl are nowhere to be seen in Anja's memory.

We don't know when the tattooing happened; it might have taken place after Surma and Anthony left Gunnerkrigg - and after the mystery girl - well, whatever happened to her.
I hope that the next time Anja has to make this kind of revelation about Eglamore (or herself and her husband) to Annie, she'll make certain that Kat's out of earshot first. The next time it happens, the shock could be lethal.

Oh god!! They're all so cute living out their late twenties and early thirties over there! Aww, yeah I remember when I was their age and just piecing together my dad's prominently displayed hookah and my mom's intense love of post-Ravi Shankar Beatles music.

I suppose they couldn't have been that young when the tattoos were handed out. They've only been holding Reynardine for a few years (5, I believe).
That also explains why Kat never noticed that her father had a tattoo. Seriously, Donald is sort of a geek, but would he wear a shirt every single day and never take it off in front of his daughter?
Kat in the last panel has apparently achieved some sort of out-of-body experience due to her brain imploding. Lets hope she gets the medical attention she needs soon, or we may be down one main character.

They've only been holding Reynardine for a few years (5, I believe). Hmm. I think the exact phrase is "It's been over 5 years." Strikes me as somewhat strange, because Antimony was, say, twelve, or thereabouts, at the time that bit of information came out. One assumes that since Reynardine's first bodysnatching incident took place while Surma was still at the Court, which was before Antimony was born, he should have been imprisoned since then, right? Granted, 12 years or so still falls well within the realm of "over five years", but it's still a tad odd. Perhaps it was five years earlier that Sivo was taken, then, at which point they began seeking remedies(since the first victim wasn't considered worth it, or they just didn't consider the possibility?)

Eager to see what other characters look like in blink-o-vision... should settle some theories.

I'm an old geezer but I have to confess the thought actually crossed my mind... ;D I love the comic, the comment board and this forum. Amidst all the mad speculation, a lot of the comments actually help my poor brain figure out what's really going on. Phat props to whoever suggested that Kat's mind had just "divided by zero" - that made me laugh as hard as the comic itself did. Thomas, if you read these comments, a three-hat salute!

Crisis: Avoided I have to think the next chapter will probably be about Renardine, especially now after that little "incident." Now for somewhat of a "crazy theory." What if Annie was avoiding Renardine because she's starting to feel something for Renard? Doesn't have to be a crush even. Check out this strip here: www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=496 Here Annie obviously has a current image of Renardine as a well... not a very good person. She has assumed that Renardine has killed many many people, but here Coyote has broken that viewpoint of him. Now we see a moment where Annie thinks that she can interact with Renard without anyone knowing; of course she soon finds out that she is wrong. I think what is really happening is that Annie can no longer think of Renardine as a bad person, and with what she still knows of him, she doesn't want to let her guard down around him. So, she avoids him.

I don't quite understand--do tattoos have some sort of lewd connotation in the UK? In both the US and the UK, tattoos have a connotation - no longer justified, by the way, if it ever was - of something that respectable people don't do. Probably left over from the days when a perfect unmarred body was thought necessary to get into heaven. So if a respectable person has one, they must have a bit of a sordid (and interesting) past. The sort of past that Oh, She's Just Mom And That's All She's Ever Been doesn't have. Laying out some details: * That's a piece of professional tattooing gear Anja is using. There's someone in that room with experience in using it - people who have that sort of gear tend to be fussy about that. * We've seen Eggy's and Anja's arms, and they aren't tattooed. Kat was unaware that her dad has a tattoo. Therefore neither Eggy nor Anja nor Donald is really into tattoos, so none of them is the experienced tattooist. There's a fourth person in the room, not as much a part of Anja's life, a more casual acquaintance. * The fourth person, the experienced tattooist, is not doing Eggy's tattoo, and Anja herself doesn't have a tattoo. There's a reason for these details. Most likely it isn't enough to just draw and fill in the desired shape; there's something more subtle going on than is readily visible. Anja is basically drawing the circuitry of an electronic device, including any "chips" involved. It's much faster to train her to use the tattoo machine than to teach the tattooist the proper pattern. But even experienced tattooists don't usually tattoo themselves. We don't overanalyze comics much around here, do we?

I still think a backpiece of the eventual Coyote vs Reynardine showdown would be the most epic and geeky GC body mod ever Indeed, such a Prisonbreak-style skin triptych (skintych) would look pretty diesel, and all the more awesome to non-geeks 'cause no one would know it's referring to a webcomic. But even experienced tattooists don't usually tattoo themselves. We don't overanalyze comics much around here, do we? Nothing wrong with overanalysis when the end is entertainment. But not sure if an analysis of Anja's memory balloon will bear many analytical fruits (fruilyticals). After all, they're burning incense, candles, and playing music, in comedic juxtoposition to Annie's rather sterile imagination. Were we shown Anja's balloon first, then Annie's, the hilarity of Kat's balloon would not be as present. I think it's just generation gap based comedy.
