If Antimony doesn't have the 'pomp powers then doesn't she have to manually record... Uh yeah let's take what the dude said as a declaration of feelings and not wanting to leave a final message rather than yes he would like to express himself to posterity. Not like he's a historic first or anything. Or maybe someone else will do it. No time to waste, Saslamel is in the open position.

Did wall bro consent to be an afterlife door or is this like just sorta happening to him?

Still a little surprised that Antimony's not sadder about this, what with Sam dying after a few months of life because she remembered Jeanne and then couldn't protect him against her. But I suppose everyone's trying to put a brave face on things for Sam's sake.

Did wall bro consent to be an afterlife door or is this like just sorta happening to him? I'm reasonably certain it's not his responsibility but what the hell. He's big and shaped like a door so I'm guessing before he had his career change Saslamel was a Mesopotamian (or thereabouts) poral guardian in service to another god. Being a door is probably second nature to him and I'm thinking he's doing it as a courtesy since Antimony didn't take the 'pomp gig (yet) and Kat doesn't know what she's doing (yet) and to get this over with faster. If he didn't he'd have to leave before this was resolved or be stuck here while the kids figured something out.

Tom points out that link in the comment text below the comic as well, but I didn't make the link until now either!

I forgot about the chapter with Sam aka The Artist Formerly Known As Bucket Bot. One of the best chapters GC has produced.

No one knew where the new pipe religion came from. Only that it swept the land with fervor. Hail the The Pipes!

My prediction: once Sam goes into the ether, it's going to trigger a transformation to turn Kat back into the mecha form, and more powerful than before.

I was wondering why there was no clunky VCR recording. From a Doylist POV, you don't want slapstick entering into this otherwise heart-warming Spielbergian moment.
Also there's no "end of chapter" symbol at the bottom of the page. Either Clippy gets some parting last shots, or else we get to see what happens when they unpause time and return to regular programming. There could still be some distortion shards to clean up (oh right, the distortion...), plus Lana, plus an angry Coyote (bonus points if he scolds Annie for punting his hamster pal)....
also Clippy: "Uh guys, I hope you don't expect the Salsa Mel door to be a regular part of the NPC death ceremony. We do have other things to do, you know..."

Maybe but is Kat connected to the RotDb? ...because if not then it's only going to the final records if Saslamel or helper ghost takes care of it, or if Kat takes care of it later I guess.

Maybe she stole an ethercam from the ROTD and Sam's smuggling it into the after-afterlife for her. That was Kat's plan all along! My prediction: once Sam goes into the ether, it's going to trigger a transformation to turn Kat back into the mecha form, and more powerful than before. The legendary Super Katyan.

After Sam thanks Kat, she asks him if he has any parting words. His reply is that he just hopes he did a good job. Apparently he inspected water pipes at first (implying that he may be the one from chapter 75, and Tom's note below has a link to that very same page, so that pretty much cements it), and now he's a person, so he hopes he did good things during his existence. Kat's opinion is that he did great. I wonder whether Kat has recorded this message for later filing in the RotD archives, or whether she didn't think of that. Given that she's got at least some technology incorporated into her body now, it isn't impossible that she can record whatever she sees and hears. Annie looks in the direction of Saslamel's "mouth," which has always looked like a long passageway, and now it has a light at the far end of it. We see Annie, Kat, and Sam looking down that passageway, then we see the Arbiter's face with a bright light clearly coming from his mouth, implying that Sam has gone into the Ether. I guess this means that the Arbiter and Interpreter are done here for now, so they'll go away and leave Annie and Kat in the distortion. Or will Kat actually be back at her lab? I'm unclear about whether Kat actually physically traveled to where Annie and the rest were. Maybe they'll all be in that recreation of the corridor outside Eglamore's office. Maybe they'll all be at Kat's lab. Maybe they'll all be where they were when the Arbiter showed up. Maybe they'll all be somewhere else. Will the Arbiter/Interpreter have some final words before they go? We'll see!

You know, I've always sorta thought the Arbiter looked like architecture. Guess it's more literal than I was expecting. Maybe when he pulls people in to talk to them, he's literally pulling them into himself - an anteroom or something. The fact that he has a door into the ether in there is still interesting though. Another sign that he's deeply involved in the etheric bureaucracy methinks. Also, the fact that he has a door there makes it easy for the Interpreter (who is a ghost) to go check in with the ROTD.

But the cam/VCR system was just Kat's symbolic perception of the etheric eternization of last words. Annie and Mort saw an entirely different thing.
My guess is, just by asking and hearing his last words, they've already "recorded" them into the ether and they'd already be available in the RotD

It might be the case if Saslamel does it or helper ghost uses his clipboard or something. I don't think Kat or Zeta are hooked up to the ether in the right way for that (yet).

But despite still not having the official capacity they are already doing the honors for Sam and seemingly guidind him into the light. If they can do that, they can probably gather last words as well
