At a subconscious level, he doesn't seem to consider Fannie to be the real Annie. Why he can't crack jokes with the 'real' Annie (Courtney, who apparently isn't the 'real' Annie either) is a mystery for another day.

Yes, take extra care, wear the special Loup blocking necklace this time.
Seriously, what kind of extra care can they take to prevent Loup doing the same thing again if he so feels like it?

Still too early to say, but - will Annies even go to the forest in this chapter? I for one really enjoy seeing Tony emerge from his shell.

Aw yiss Tony drama... This is the quality content I signed up for... Re: not considering F-Annie the "real Annie", maybe it's not that exactly? Maybe for Tony, Annies work the reverse of regular people, so that where he can't be sociable around a group of regular people, but for Annies, there have to be at least two or more of them around for him to start to warm up to them?

Maybe in another eight chapters Tony will finally tell us that "sticky situation" joke.
Anyway, that he is being able to crack jokes in the company of Frannie is IMHO not that big an indicator he does not see her as the/a "real" Antimony. It could be something as simple as Surma's makeup on Courtney's face making him uncomfortable. In fact, him speaking of "four Antimonys" makes me personally feel he sees them as both being the same person.

This could either be real dark (Tony thinks Courtnie is the original Annie, who killed her mother by being born, and thus clams up every time he sees her, whereas the new Annie was created/shifted by Loup, and so is not his mother-killing daughter); or an opportunity for a metaphysically driven puzzle (the Annies have different essences somehow so one of them doesn't trigger his etherically driven social anxiety).
Is there another possible explanation?? I mean. It can't just be the hair. Annie had long hair when he arrived. And it can't just be the makeup - it was months before she started wearing it.
Ugh, or maybe this is another Loup trick?

Uhhhh... not sure why anyone believes Tony thinks of Annie (any Annie) as having killed her mother by being born. He doesn't. He blames himself for Surma's death. Hence the whole guilt thing.

Is there another possible explanation?? I'd expect Tony may genuinly want to change his relationship with his daughter, but it's much harder to start anew with Courtnie because he already has his routine with her, so any small change feels very significant and he keeps overthinking them. But he feels like Sylvannie is a chance to start again from the beginning, because she has less history with him and fewer expectations about what "normal" is. I hope it lets him gradually change his relationship with Courtnie as well, because I really don't want the Annies to be rivals. I don't think he sees any of the Annies as being responsible for Surma's death, but feeling like he failed to save their mother certainly has a big impact on his relationship with them.

I dunno, I didn't interpret it like everyone else seems to be interpreting it on first read. I thought it was more like "Holy crap, come down here, our stoic dad just cracked a joke," and Courtney rushing down in shock to stare at Tony created an awkward/funny moment. But I'm probably wrong?

I interpreted it the way you did at first faiiry . But then I remembered this discussion, where we learned that Tony only started being different around Sylvannie. And the fact that she casually mentions how he is funny means she already got used to it. With that in mind, it sounds more like Sylvannie is informing her sister that their father just did a joke again, because Courtnie never heard one, rather than Sylvannie being surprised by it.

Ha ha, yeah that's ridicu- no wait. I think you're right. Annies tend to father, Annie heads upstairs, Tony makes a funny, Annie rushes back downstairs. Even a human can make a really loud STOMP when she's in a hurry.

But is it a joke, tho? Seems like a legitimate concern to me. If you only consider what is being said there's not much to make it a joke. But Tony is smiling, and Sylvannie clearly interpreted it as a joke, so there's a high chance Tony used an intonnation that communicated the fact that he was making fun of a complicated situation. And it's not like there's anything the Annies can do to avoid being shifted one, or even ten times more, so Tony's joke is basically "can you imagine how bad it would be if there were actually four of you". Careful with that very sharp humor Tony, you might hurt someone

Or maybe he's just learning how to cope and he's slowly progressing towards a normal, health relationship. Yeah, not likely, but I like being optimistic

I don't know why but the thought of Pft!Antonie thudding down the stairs just because a joke was made that she wasn't a party to is cracking me up. It's pretty funny. Frannie tells her everything about their interactions, but Courtnie is never around. With the telepathy she's able to just miss everything and make awkward moments like the last panel.

"This Friday at the Court Jester, Tony Carver's Dour Hour!... No refunds. All ticket sales are final." I suppose future pages will tell, but it does seem like he treats them differently. Then again, it might be weird timing and Tony finally unclenching a little. Unless Kat added something "special" to his arm. Did the "antibodies" make anti-anxiety meds? There really aren't anti-Schizoid meds, but... Ether magic... What if Tony's been going to therapy this whole time, and just hasn't told anyone?

The spin-off series was already teased on the previous episode, so fall TV premiere then... most probably before the end of October!

I feel like this is just a sign of their relationship. Living together is bound to change a person, and their relationship is hardly going to be static forever. He’s slowly warming up to at least one of the Annie’s, but she thinks it’s bizarre in the same way she did back in the “cool beans” shirt.
