Is it too late to point out that spiderwebs burn like crazy?
Because they do.

Is this the first time we've heard either Annie swear, even lightly by modern standards?
Also that she wasn't this mad at wisps anywhere else in the comic makes me think they've been a pain in the 6 months we missed.

Probably, although it's also only the second time she's encountered them on-screen if memory serves me right. Wouldn't surprise me if that first time was enough for her to grow a strong dislike for them.

Hmm... I think I recall Renard swearing (or the suggestion of him swearing) and maybe Eggers, but I can't recall an Antimony swearing before.
I think that being stuck to a wall and webbed, possibly being fed on and eggs laid on/in you (or being a mere handful of hours/minutes from same) would be enough to make Courtnie really mad even if wisps weren't an issue at all before.

I think that seeing people she cared about (that glance) is what pushed her over the edge. The wisps tricked them into a purgatory of submission, something that Annie has never cottoned to. Even the mild case of deception that Mort underwent c/o the RotD incensed Annie. Jeanne's un-death is another case that clearly haunted Annie, even though they never knew each other. And in all three cases, she rolls up her proverbial sleeves and gets stuck in. A good egg, that Carver.

Also that she wasn't this mad at wisps anywhere else in the comic makes me think they've been a pain in the 6 months we missed. I'm not sure the fact that they are wisps really matters, she burst into flames after seeing her friends, and the other Annie (which she can see as either her newfound sister, her even just herself) in a grave danger. She would have been mad at anyone trying to kill her friends, regardless of previous interractions. And I doubt there were so many sudden and shocking revelations happening on a daily basis at the Court. Not containing your anger when your friends are nearly killed doesn't mean you can't stay calm when a kid sends a ball to your head by accident. It seems like Greenie and Parley are enjoying watching the fire work.

You remember correctly, and her statement on this page strongly suggests there were no other times. "I remember those... one attacked me when I was with Ysengrin once."
Now, ladies, gentlemen and others, I would like to hear your theories why only one Annie has woken up, given they are almost the same person and it appears the presumed Anwyn woman has only physically interacted with Parley so far.

On the previous page you can see that Courtnie's closer to Parley than Frannie, that's probably why.

Also she might still be in a mood from thinking she's useless compared to everyone else. So now that she actually has her powers back, she takes it out on the wisps.

btw: Anyone else getting major grief from Photobucket recently? The account I use for this forum has been in a limited state for something like four months now. First it was q of images that exceeded the newly imposed limit, then when I deleted a bunch of thumbnails and less-important stuff to bring the account under the limit the q remained fixed at the original amount. Then last month the q(jpg) updated but they claimed it used <80meg bandwidth... which is theoretically possible but highly suspect. So far this month they claim it's used nearly 90meg. Meanwhile the account is still in limited state and they spam spam spam one of my older email accounts trying to get me to upgrade to a paid version. Which isn't going to happen.

If that's Courtnie, it's quite possible she got really fed up with this nuisance during the incursions, of course. But even if not… Their first encounter seems to cause intense headache near the end (though maybe it was from mental tug-o-war between wisp and Coyote). This one was longer. Also the whole "oops, where are my fire powers?" thing. Annie doesn't take helplessness well. And then finding herself and everyone like this. No great surprise she is cheesed off.

Has Tom changed his policy on swearing? I know there was a "bitch" which was tastefully obscured by the end-of-chapter symbol, and Jimmy Jims' swearing was masked when he was on training camp with Parley.
Also, is "god damn" really such a light swear word in English? The equivalent is one of the worst ones in Dutch.

Is it too late to point out that spiderwebs burn like crazy? Because they do. In fiction, yes. In reality not so much. Fire melts a web more than it burns it. Of course if there's dust or other flammable substances on the web, that will often burn nicely. That said, Annie doesn't need fuel to keep ehr fire going, and she can burn hella hot. Plus, I bet the wisps and the trees those webs are in, burn quite well. Pretty much. "Damn" is basically the only swear that was allowed to be used in Star Trek, for instance. It's generally considered quite mild as cursing goes.

Belgian here, I "godverdomme" all over the place, it's not such a bad thing to say... unless you're really religious, but in that case anything referencing God is blasphemous. So I think it's a matter of taste, and this situation really deserves a little cursing. Courtnie: "I've HAD it with the GODDAMN WISPS on this GODDAMN mind-PLANE!"

I was always under the assumption that damn wasn't considered a swear much outside the US. Granted, I live in a country of casual swearers so...

Anngrie. I was always under the assumption that damn wasn't considered a swear much outside the US. Granted, I live in a country of casual swearers so... Well Tom does live in the US, but I'm sure the choice of words was very deliberate, with the ambiguity around the swear words being used to convey Courtnie's state of mind as well as possible, while not clearly crossing the swear line. Now, ladies, gentlemen and others, I would like to hear your theories why only one Annie has woken up, given they are almost the same person and it appears the presumed Anwyn woman has only physically interacted with Parley so far. Courtnie was closer both in the illusion (were the green monster made her jump out of the way when it attacked the wisp) and in real life, so this might have played a role (there also seems to be a wisp working between Sylvannie and Rey?). Or it's because Sylvannie has a bigger proportion of her hair embedded in the web. Or because Courtnie was kind of on edge after her discussion with Eglamore (and because she was paired with Eglamore to begin with), while Sylvannie got kinda bored by Cvet's gossip, and then mostly watched from afar.

"Goddamn" is considered a worse swear than "damn." "Damn" is pretty mild. Around here, when a song with "goddamn" is on the radio, they censor it...by censoring the "god" part. "Haven't you ever heard of closing a ***damn door."
That's pretty much spillover from religious objections, I believe. It's funny how inconsistent it is, though. I bet a character on a TV show (on a standard network) could say, "God, what is that damn thing?" uncesored, but you move it around to "What is that goddamn thing?" and it ups the level of swearing.
I really like this page. To continue on with the discussion of profanity usage, I think Annie's swearing here could be an indication of not only her level of rage in the moment, but also her growing up. Not that swearing makes someone more "mature," but I remember barely swearing a lick throughout middle school, and then within a couple of years...that was no longer the case.

Well. Annie is clearly all out of bubblegum. Also she might still be in a mood from thinking she's useless compared to everyone else. So now that she actually has her powers back, she takes it out on the wisps. I like this idea. "Goddamn wisps, You made me have an awkward conversation with Mr. Eglamore!"

I don't use PhotoBucket myself, but it's been clear for a while now that they desperately want to stop being a free image host but not being willing to openly admit this because it might run off potential customers. Instead they keep pretending they're a free host while making it as onerous as possible to use them that way, all the while hammering users with pleas to start paying. I'd recommend moving to another host, even as annoying as doing so can be. I use Imgur personally, although they seem to be desperately trying to be a social media site, not an image host. (And oddly did away with paid accounts years ago.) I've been hearing good things about CubeUpload. Simple, easy to use, no compression, but who knows how long it'll last that way. I wish you luck no matter what you decide to do, it shouldn't be so freaking hard to find a good image host that lasts long-term, but that's the way this timeline works apparently.

"Goddamn" is considered a worse swear than "damn." "Damn" is pretty mild. Seconded: this is accurate to my experience (midwestern U.S.). Of course, technically what counts is how it's considered in England, since that's where both Tom and Annie are from. There are some notorious differences between British and American swearing. But I doubt this is one of them. I will also point out that this particular phrase has occurred in Gunnerkrigg Court before, courtesy of Zimmy--though not spoken with nearly as much energy.
