Yep, they're talking over each other in Renard's brain. [edit] Also: Not entirely sure but the views in the bottom corners may indicate that he's seeing what the Antimonies are seeing, hopefully at intervals instead of one image in each eye simultaneously.[/edit]

I love how Renard is a slight mix between his large-form and his toy form.

I love how Renard is a slight mix between his large-form and his toy form. and threading through him are strands of hair-fire that connect to both Frannie and Courtney...! (F & C are also directly hair-connected to each other, tho these strands aren't on fire. Slight inconsistency: lower Courtney lost her makeup!)

The hair actually suggest that they are communicating through his stomach (or where his stomach should be). Or his heart maybe? Not that there's much to interpret from it

Im guessing that the hair-fire connection indicates communication/ownership, maybe potential ability/power sharing?, with the familiar, while F & C's direct hair connection is communication between familiar owners and indicating the Annies are the "same" in some sense.

Interesting that C!Annie's etherself still seems jagged. Has she taken a step backwards in her ability to move about the ether or just artist representation of the haircut in the ether?

Man, the Annies really don't like homework.

It's like Renard is being strung up and puppeted and he can't do anything about it except shout about it, and even that seems off and puppet-like. I don't like it.

the way the group is split is quite precise: one muscle/fighter type each: Eglamore, Cvet, Parley one ether adept each: Frannie, Courtney, Rey
If I calculated it correctly, theres only about a 14% chance of this happening randomly.... someone/something may be bending the odds to set it up this way.

The hair actually suggest that they are communicating through his stomach (or where his stomach should be). Or his heart maybe? Not that there's much to interpret from it Dunno if Tom is influenced by Carlos Castaneda's pseudo-autobiographical works in which he describes his spiritual "classes" under yaqui shamans Don Juan Matos and Don Genaro. There is a book in which Don Juan explains that the origin of people's "volition" is in the stomach region (not sure if "volition" would be the correct term, I've read the book in portuguese).
Then in another book Castaneda describes one lesson where the shamans are trying to teach him how to "see". So they start doing prodigious physical feats (such as walking on a tree trunk as if it were the floor or taking impossibly huge leaps, like, Richard Bach's "Illusion" style miracles). He freaks out so much he has some kind of perceptive epiphany, and starts to see people as surrounded by oval auras of light, with thin strings of light coming out of their stomach region. IIRC he then notices when Juan and Genaro do their stunts, they use those strings as "tentacles" for reaching and grabbing stuff and support themselves.
(I'm talking from memory and it's been like 15-20 years since I've read those books, so I could be misremembering something)
Man I'm sceptic AF and an atheist, but Castaneda's books are a ride. It seems he was a pretty problematic dude, tho.
Anyway... If Tom were referencing that kind of thing, maybe since Rey became Annie's familiar, she now might have control over his will, and as such is directly connected to his "volition center"

Renard's always had a variety of physical forms, ranging from "majestic" to "goofy" to "cute", but they were always separate from his natural Ether form as a fox. Seeing this weird hybrid form in a very ether-like setting is... unsettling, to say the least. And the puppetry symbolism with Annie's hair piercing his stomach just makes it even more creepy...brrrrrrr....

So we should not assume the same symbolisms apply here. Also, the descriptions of familiar spirits I know, be they from folk tales or D&D, always have the familiar retain their free will, regardless whether they are forced to obey their human partners or not. Often the familiar spirit's main task was to provide guidance to a young witch or wizard, not being their servant - which is arguably what Renard's main role in the comic towards Annie was until now, anyway. (Yes, he did not teach her to use her etheric powers until after she lost the blinker stone, those teachings were mainly by Coyote, but you know what I mean.)

I'd like to see Renard in the ether. I wonder if anything's changed there now that he has a new contract?
