Going by the eyebrow articulation that appears to go all the way to the back of the head, being surprised is an important expression to display as a spectrum.

Robot does look a bit like the person he was partly modeled on, doesn't he?

And may be even more expressive (in public).

Robot's been practising his smiles with Shadow because Jones was unavailable, until recently.

I swear, this is going to come back to bite us - or, more accurately, stomp all over our emotions. A recognizably expressive face can perform all kinds of things, including deception.
Considering Robot's little extracurricular project re: the Angel and his love for Shadow, it'll be a trip to see what his face hides and reveals and to whom.

I have never been so terrified by a page as I have by this one. Not because of the technological leap forward, which is actually pretty cool. No, this page makes me realize that I trust Robot least of all the characters, far less than even Loup. But while everyone else's efforts are hampered and stymied, look who's plans are going forward without a hitch, all thanks to our beloved angel Kat.

aw I've seen a lot of people say Robot looks creepy now, but I'm honestly just happy for him. I mean still worried about his plans for Kat but like, it's nice to see him grow so much. I'm strangely proud.

This isn't Robot. It's not Eglamore either. It's Tony.

The whole scene has a nice quote/parallel too! from Kat meeting and drawing from Diego's old designs of original series robots, panel 6 here: www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=891to the result of that acquired knowledge, meeting Annie as a "new being" beyond a robot; panel 4 now: www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=2137Wow! Tom blows me away again....

Wasn't Robot being "grown" a new, blue-purply sort of synthetic organic body that could experience touch and feel pain? It could be it's there under this exterior, (it did look like skinless musculature) or this is the organic growth and it's just robot-colored now or something but....Robot becoming a more developed....um, robot, seems somewhat antithetical to the sort of cyborgean direction Kat was going with him when Annie left.

...not gonna lie, Robot is smack dab in the Uncanny Valley right now. The final design will look a bit like this before dermal covering is applied so prepare for some bungee jump lessons on said valley PS: he seems to have dermal covering on the limbs already so it exists and I'm assuming the face doesn't have it applied because it's still in development (smile attempts and all)

I'm going with "He's got skin now." I for one don't think that Robot's going to be the one to upset the power structure.

Wow. I already kind of knew, logically, that Robot would have to have a more advanced humanoid form by this time, and that we would surely see him if the gang was going back to Kat's lab, but knowing it was coming and actually seeing it are clearly different. IT'S LOOKS SO WEIRD, YOU GUYS. Not creepy or anything, just...weird. I think my brain just can't handle the idea of Robot having both eyes on the same side of his face anymore.
Also, does this new face remind anyone else of the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz?

If this is smile attempt #3028, I'm sure the first 100 attempts were suitably horrifying.
But yeah, he's definitely on the road to Uncanny Valley.

I love how detailed the rest of him is compared to his little dot eyes. My mans has neck tendons but no pupils and they're the one thing keeping him from veering into full-on uncanny horror for me

On the potential threat from Robot:
While much of what he's done gives a troubling tone (especially if he was indeed part of the conspiracy in "The Torn Sea"), I'm not sure he's intentionally causing harm. The most serious thing he and his followers have done was the above "Torn Sea" incident, which came about because Kat was spending less time on her work, distracted with other things, a situation that isn't likely to recur. (Though the methods they used are disconcerting - when they think it's perfectly all right to carry out a plan that includes kidnapping, tormenting a girl with etheric powers, and demanding that the very angel/goddess whom they revere assist a would-be adulterer, it doesn't bode well for future problem-solving efforts.)
Of course, Kat has unwittingly helped bring the situation about through careless remarks in front of the robots - maybe even by embarking on a project of this scale. (The original purpose, remember, was just to provide a new body for Robot after the old body was paper-clipped - but they'd already achieved that by the first chapter on the robot-building project, with the robot mouse. It's clear that Kat's real reason is that she's excited about the project for its own sake - it may even be a counterpart - on a smaller scale - of the Court's big enterprise.)
But we don't know yet how all this will end, with Kat's actions any more than with Annie's. While they've both unleashed a fair amount of trouble through their investigations and activities, we should keep one thing in mind - the situation just before the comic began wasn't that healthy. The Court was up to some strange project and was willing to achieve its goals in immoral ways (small wonder, perhaps, that the robot conspiracy in "The Torn Sea" used the methods it did, with the Court to set such an example). A lot of the forest-folk wanted to attack and destroy the Court, and although held in check by Jeanne, their hatred and anger was boiling and festering. Maybe the fruit of Annie and Kat's adventures will turn out to be the kind of treatment that initially makes things worse (or appears to), but turns out to be the best way (perhaps the only way) to cure the patient.

On the other hand, Robot’s immunity is tied to the ceramic chip on his CPU. I don’t know if they would risk editing that on Arthur while he’s connected to the shield system for fear of ‘brain damage.’

Could somebody remind me why Robot isn't a zombie like the rest of the Court's robots? I thought he had either become a force field generator or had been hacked by the Court's green head thing...

The reason (or educated guess) Robot didn't end up part of the shield like all the rest of the robots came up in Evac, specifically this page.
