Are you sure they're a secret, Kat? I don't think we ever saw Annie tell Kat that information, although it's entirely possible it happened offscreen. Edit: Actually on second thought, she'd probably reverse-engineer Jack's solution from Ch.34? Maybe the computer covers that too. So many questions to file away for later already.

I find myself having mixed feelings about that: - "I want to have my own secret train!"
- "Oh! That's why so many trains are delayed."

The all-monitoring Court can't quite seem to notice a train outdoors. If only there was some way to anticipate which way a train would go through And it's nice of the Annies to respect the color code, green for Sylvannie, violet for Courtnie

Except if they try to recall a given train Kat has commandeered, and suddenly realize they cant, or it isn't where they think it is.... But Kat could have work arounds for this too... a commandeered train could be set to "out of service" once it reaches a naughty zone (yellow, red) so that the Court wouldn't think to use it.

Hm, I half expected Frannie to put on makeup again as well. But she obviously did not. The all-monitoring Court can't quite seem to notice a train outdoors. Maybe Kat does not control where the train goes, but its sensors instead? Like, the train is going autonomously, and in the control center it shows "no unauthorized passengers on board".

That's a possibility, but I don't really expect the Court to send trains from and to dangerous zone without properly checking what's inside. And they know Jack managed to completly evade their monitoring so they can't really expect it to be infaillible. But hey, it's Kat we're talking about, I'm sure she modifies the Court's schedule so it looks like they programmed the trains, and she might be able to check that there is no-one (robot or human) that would be able to see the train when it passes. The idea of being stealthy by hacking a train in plain sight is still pretty funny

This is the girliest thing I will have said on this forum but Frannie's jacket is SO COOL *o* I want one like that!
Also it is very cute to see the Annies getting along and hanging out with Kat and Rey together. Warms my cold jaded heart.

I do wonder how much the Court's food tracking abilities were affected by the destruction of the past 6 months. Perhaps they are more limited now?
Also: we haven't seen Robot yet, right? I am eager to see if one of the surprises is a massive progression in the work on his and Arthur's bodies.
Edit: also also. Really glad Tom didn't spend too much time on the Annies sniping at each other. Now the plot can keep moving.

The Court might not be able to monitor everything at once. It's a big place, and sparsely populated (for an area that size). Not to mention that, even when they become aware of the characters' activities, they don't always act at the time. (Take the Jeanne encounter. The Court - or at least Juliette - was aware of Annie and Co. being down in the chasm, but did nothing about it then; Juliette used it as a leverage on Kat afterwards, but that was it.)

Kat: "Only I can touch it. That way, no one can touch the "Inappropriate Anime" button... again. *sigh* Rey totally ruined Mrs. Popplewell's funeral." I'm real curious, as to the progress Kat has made with Robot and Arthur. I get the feeling, we're about to find out.

As a transit fan, I've always opposed maglev on the grounds that it was expensive and energy-inefficient. I think I already commented about the Court's ridiculous use of maglev as a commuter train/ mass transit earlier.
From a storytelling perspective, it makes perfect sense - it looks futuristic and cool; and the Court either has an unlimited power supply or just doesn't care.
So now we have a multi-car maglev hauling around three girls and their mutt. (To be fair, I doubt that they can unhook the cars.)
Also, Tom has a tendency to show the trains running as a single-track operation, which is easier for the artist. But it would cause some operating difficulties if two opposite-direction trains ever need to pass.
I suppose it shows what a tech whiz Kat is, if she can design an train control override which can avoid head-on collisions.

Prediction time! We know Kat has been using her computer to figure out this "ownership" thing Annie and Reynardine have going on. Which is a " contract of ownership," according to Hetty. So this chapter will be about one or both of the following: 1. Kat compares her previous data with the state of the Annie-Rey contract now, trying to shed more light on the contract itself and possibly the two-Annies situation. 2. Kat uses her understanding of the Annie-Rey contract to try to modify the Annie-Psychopomps contract.

They'll solve the conflict and resume to normal life and the chapter closure page will be Annie (now just one) bringing her next year enrollment contract for her dad to sign. Also, no etheric shenanigans, Gunnerkrigg Court is now just a normal schoool in Birmingham. The End!

Has anyone else noticed that Renard is suddenly around all the time again? I feel like he was sort of AWOL/in the background for several of the last chapters, in situations I would have expected him to have an opinion about (mostly the Jeanne fall-out). Hoping this means he's going to start taking a more active role in the story again.

I love that we're just gradually becoming used to having two Annies in the comic now. Remember when we were all stressed about it? Good times.

Would that still be the case if they can ever get those high Tcrit superconductors working to use on the mag-lev magnets? Power needs should be much lower then...

So far, the track record of maglev is spotty. Germany is apparently going to dismantle its only test track, and even China seems to be having second thoughts after building a line in Shanghai. Japan is building a maglev line from Tokyo to Nagoya, but it seems likely that it will be a long time before it reaches the length of the existing "traditional" Shinkansen. Part of the problem is that while Shinkansen or TGV-style HSR can run on just about any electrified track (albeit with safety and speed limits on heritage tracks), maglev requires completely new infrastructure. = Not that any of this seems to matter for the Court. The Gunnerkrigg economy seems to be as mysterious as anything else there.

Germany is apparently going to dismantle its only test track, and even China seems to be having second thoughts after building a line in Shanghai. "In zehn Minuten. Sie steigen in den Hauptbahnhof ein [...] weil das ja klar ist, weil am Hauptbahnhof ja viele Linien aus Bayern zusammenlaufen." -- Edmund Stoiber, producing True Art ("Within ten minutes. You board the Central Station [...] because that is clear, after all, because, after all, at the Central Station, many lines from Bavaria come together." The Transrapid Speech consists of ~90 seconds of an erstwhile Federal Chancellor candidate failing to explain the deceptively simple concept of "fast train goes to airport fast" and transforming the maglev into magic whose sheer vorticism strips antiquated terms like "distance" and "checking in" of their meaning. Uh, uh, Charles de Gaulle.)

Also, we never found out what kind of creature she was or how she ended up in that doll body. Since she did not have Coyote's powers, which can be given away only once, her case could work very differently.
