That much pressure should've crushed them, no?
They sure killed that ashray in... cold blood!

Some thoughts:
Pose in panel 3 owns.
Still only one hairclip.
Zimmy's going to wonder why the next rain feels a bit weird.

That much pressure should've crushed them, no?They sure killed that ashray in... cold blood! Pressure isnt that much of a deal. The human body (they are still mainly human, right?) consists mostly of water, which is pretty much incompressible. To kill someone with pressure, you have to expose him to pressure first, and then take that away quickly. Body goes splortsch if you do that - do yourself a favour and dont google that. Or you get divers sickness if it is done slower, and you where exposed to the high pressure for a while.
Now what pressure does to a fire elemental? No clue. If you put fire (heat) under pressure... it gets tighter and hotter, staying fire (hot). Other than that, the fire elemental part of annie is etheric, and thus outside of our known physics.
Monky still had a coherent body after being mostly steam. I dont think he is really "dead" - probably just sent back into the ether (I firmly believe monky is mostly an etheric creature).

The door gives way under Court Annie's focused ray of scorn. Pfft.

The "PFFT" returns, this time in the form of a sound effect!
Alas, the ashray returns to the ether in the form of water vapor, for water is never destroyed, it is only transformed. I wonder if we'll ever find out what it was (a Court employee or just a Forest resident messing around in the underground?)

now I feel sorry for it like a boiled lobster My guess is they can't really destroy the Ashtray, but they can sure mess up his night. In my head, I'm imagining him as a recurring (non-threat) opponent, who wears obvious disguises. His catch phrase will be "Team Ashtray is vaping off again!" Yeah. That's two panels with Fannie's hairclip not visible. Is it a story point or a nonissue? Maybe, her long hair covers it up?

That much pressure should've crushed them, no?They sure killed that ashray in... cold blood! The pressure hasn't opened the vault armoured door, but just a normal basement door. The should still suffer some negative effects from the pressure, but what I find strange is that they managed to create such pressure in first place... they have a wide open passage behind their backs, and the bunker is really huge...

for some reason it doesn't seem like the ashray is dead, to me, just moderately inconvenienced and a little scared.

Sweet little detail: in the second panel, C!Annie's beam (and the glowing door) result in the door's dogging wheel casting a shadow.
Pfft!

Yeah, that outside door doesn't look anything like the vault door. In fact, the whole squared-off entrance doesn't look like it matches up with the rounded ceiling of the vault at all. It looks like Courtnie fired straight through the vault door, and in the first panel, we're looking at it from the other side of the door. That means there must be some antechamber in front of the vault, and it's the antechamber/ basement door they smashed open.

Sadly, sources exterior to the comic mostly agree that the ashray can be killed by sunlight so even if he's still alive now Monty would have to reform and find shelter before the sun comes up or he's toast.

they have a wide open passage behind their backs, and the bunker is really huge... They came in through one of those big sealable doors, and the first panel of this page shows that it is indeed closed behind them.

It's visible in Crannie's hair, but not Fannie's and their hair is blown/flowing back in the same way for each girl.

(Looking back over that sequence though, it looks like the hair band didn't survive, interestingly enough) E: further thoughts... Frannie's hair in the linked Neither page shows signs of raggedness, while her hair on today's page looks like it all comes to natural-looking ends. I wonder what's up with that, if it's anything more than the drawn level of detail being lower.

Id say its a bit ragged only because she is swirling around quickly due to Loup dragging her "fire crown" around. I still contend that the fully separated fire shards, tongues, and embers are seen associated only with Courtney. (Though Im happy to retract that if its proven otherwise! )

Sadly, sources exterior to the comic mostly agree that the ashray can be killed by sunlight so even if he's still alive now Monty would have to reform and find shelter before the sun comes up or he's toast. They also agree that the asrai looks more like ahuman woman or a mermaid/nixie, so who knows what Tom actually took from them except for the name and the water association?
For what it's worth, last time she went elemental mode (during her time with Loup), the clip disappeared then as well just to reappear as soon as she went back to normal. (Looking back over that sequence though, it looks like the hair band didn't survive, interestingly enough) E: further thoughts... I wonder what's up with that, if it's anything more than the drawn level of detail being lower. While Annie normally is able not to harm her clothes with her fire, there have been instances where she did not completely succeed...
