I hereby christen the new literary technique Tom is using here the "internal/external duolouge", a freakish and disturbing Bizarro clone of the famous "internal monologue".
No but seriously, their level of synchronization between these two is REALLY creeping me out. Part of me wants them to just fuse already so I don't have to think about the exact nature of their condition anymore.

Also, Ominous Ceiling Pipes. Are they pipes, or roots disguising themselves as pipes? They are pipes disguising themselves as roots that are disguising themselves as pipes.

They are a part of Kat's body (the real one, not that flesh golem she thinks she is) Naah that's crazy talk exactly what I thought when I first saw them.On a more serious note: What does everyone think could be troubling Kat? She and Paz seem to be as strong as ever so it's probably not relationship drama. And despite the fretting over there being two Annies, that's new enough that it's probably not that either. A few possibilities that come to mind: - Her reputation has brought her into new circles in the Court, and has learned things that are distressing
- She was unable to help Juliette and Arthur in some way
- She's learned she's actually a robot/computer/not strictly human
- She's sick or dying
- She hadn't gotten around to revealing her relationship with Paz to her parents until the crisis forced a change in living arrangements, and one or both were less than accepting

Are you implying I wasn't serious? ò.ó About the possibilities: 1) check - the greencrabbing incident (her freeing of Arthur was used to develop the greencrabs and she may or may not have been forced to work on the project); 2) probably - they might have been discovered and forced a "cease and desist" or the siege situation may have halted the plans (less likely since we know Anthony have a very advanced prosthetic which we can assume have a nice brain-computer interface); 3) wildpec - count me in (it would be funny if her real body Anja's computer had a metal pigeon on top); 4) metaphorically? - maybe it's her humanity that's dying, or at least the feels that way and need some connection to the organic world? (Dr. Manhattan Syndrome intensifies!); 5) unlikely - her parents are woodstock level chill guys (mandatory parenthesis because every other item has one).

Yeah the last two points are more there for the sake of discussion. I think sick/dying is unlikely, as is the last.. But you never know what prejudices people can have that don't surface until it affects them personally.
It'd be kinda disappointing for example Anja to reject her daughter's relationship when she herself was worried about ostracism for having etheric talents when she was younger. Not that I think this'll happen.

Imagine if they really are monitoring them upstairs. The touching smiles fading into a full on facepalm at those words in the last panel would be hilarious. I really hope they are not monitoring them. It would basically be spying on Annie's intimate thoughts.

Do we know this trope's name? Like almost-self-awareness-but-no-everyone-else-is-wrong?

Do we know this trope's name? Like almost-self-awareness-but-no-everyone-else-is-wrong? Ignored EpiphanySomeone's already added this specific example. Edit: Imagine if they really are monitoring them upstairs. The touching smiles fading into a full on facepalm at those words in the last panel would be hilarious. I really hope they are not monitoring them. It would basically be spying on Annie's intimate thoughts. Realising that might require a bit more maturity than most teenagers would have. Except probably Andrew.
