More wild spec: Courtnie has told Renard to avoid Fannie and that she doesn't want him speaking to her when she (Courtnie) isn't there. For his own protection and the safety of everyone else, of course. Because Fannie can command Renard to do stuff and we don't know what her (Fannie's) origin is but it is very suspicious. And this decision was made completely separate from her (Courtnie's) personal feelings about having a double and is absolutely not petty in the slightest.

Haha yeah I had that same thought when I first read the page. That look on Rey's face is so serious, not that the wolf form is ever particularly easy-going looking though.
I have a feeling whatever Rey is about to say is probably pretty important, either one of the many speculative twists others have said, or confirmation that both Annie's seem genuinely real and that this will be quite a difficult problem to work out.

maybe he's here to finally provide some emotional support for poor Forest!Annie. She's going through a lot right now and it would be nice if someone would just talk to her about it.
Renard is also probably interested in the details of what happened in the Forest. (does the death of Coyote change the way his contract works, I wonder? Or his power?) But he did just find out that his brother (sort of) not only died, but became some weird conglomerate entity with the most powerful local deity available, so it's possible he's here to talk about that. who could say.
