Interesting to see where Robot S13 stands on this development He already has several being interrogated in his Secret Underground Base™.
In all seriousness, I have a big feeling that there's planned mischief when it comes to our friend Robot. I doubt he'd be happy to see robots have their will taken away from them, regardless if they're court robots.

Forest Annie didn't just miss out on months of plot exposition, but also months of growing... she'll be forever the Short One.

Assuming Kat managed to keep Robot free of alteration, he's likely try to mount an insurrection to "free his bretheren". Im betting he would view these overrides as a horrible interference in the proper evolution of robot-kind as shepherded by angel-robo-goddess Kat. He could become like a robot Moses... let my people go! He may have some human help I this too... Juliette would loathe Arthur being altered in such a way, for example. Kat herself would be sympathetic. Of course, we don't know how many robots have been altered, and how many are still maintaining the shield.... and it will be interesting to see just how the altered robots are "different" and why Kat is wary of them. Do they report "improper activity" direct to the Court? Are they more unpredictable, due to a constant internal struggle "must maintain should" - "no, override, do the Court's bidding" ala HAL in 2001?

The green part is a big cooling unit because they have excess processing due to constant overriding. Their heads are probably frying more than a bitcoin miner

Hmm, something seems off about this chapter so far. Don't know what it is, but it might be because of Tony and Kat immediately accepting that there's two Annies without seeming surprised or bothered. I wonder if this is all an illusion.

I wonder if Tony and Kat know something the Annies don't know.

I wonder if this is all an illusion. maybe they have had suspicions about court!Annie for a while now, so seeing a second Annie maybe something they have even discussed about and confirms some of their speculations ("Annie hasn't seemed the same since returning from the forest... what happened to change her? Is this really our Annie?"). I may be reading too much into it, but court!Annie seems a bit more reserved, quieter, less fiery, more passive... less a rebel maybe. Keeps short hair, back to makeup and conservative dress. Wonky connection to fire-elemental. Tony and Kat gave court!Annie quite some side-eye when the two Annies first met... which could just be curiosity about her reaction to seeing her double, but could also be "ah, we thought something was quite "right" about this one... this is what happened!"

Their eyes are still red and they have a new piece of weird hardware over their foreheads... Maybe Kat managed to override their override to make them useful while still maintaining the shield? Are they in a conscious state (i.e. driven by self aware AIs) or just dumb like a Roomba? Can we keep BoxBot dumb and not self aware (and turn him into a useful roomba while at it)? Kat has been working on their instructional code. Remaining stationary and helping to project the barrier apparently takes all their golem heart etheric mojo but shouldn't eat much in the way of other resources, so possibly Kat made a work-around so they could move while still maintaining the barrier. Or maybe she or Robot Admin did something with spare bodies with no CPUs that never had the barrier protocol installed. But the main points here are that 1. there are some robots who appear to be moving around doing stuff and 2. boxbot will never be functional in a praiseworthy way. Get dunked on jda Here I'm pretending like my obliviousness to the green head court robots on previous comic pages is in any way praiseworthy. I don't care what manpower shortages the Court faces; if at the very least some guard robots don't start shadowing the Annies when they leave the building the Court is simply not doing its due diligence. However, this point is still valid, much to my chagrin.

The world is not the same as it was, Charles.
If you can't depend on the robots, all GKC is becoming a lot shadier.

PS: what about the Tic Tocs? would they be now the new artificial allies?

the way Kat is so comfortable with, and so readily confides her concerns about the court modified robots with forest!Annie makes it seem like she at least accepts her as an "equal-Annie"... not to be treated with much suspicion. That suggests that Kat views forest!Annie as either the "true" Annie or that both Annies are equally "true", maybe two halves of the original, or from split timelines.

The Tic-Tocs are Annies' and Kat's first golens (or rather the chicks of their first golem). They made it (the treatise egg) and sent it back to the past with one of the Annies, and then she became her own great-grandma

Forest Annie didn't just miss out on months of plot exposition, but also months of growing... she'll be forever the Short One. You're right; court!Annie is at least a few cm taller! Court!Annie must have had a growth spurt. Forest!Annie will always be 6 months behind, but she should catch up eventually, once court!Annie reaches her final adult height. She won't taunted as "shrub!Annie" forever....

I wonder if this is all an illusion. I hope not; I can't see the point of it, from a storytelling point of view. (Unless it's filler to make this book the same length as the rest - and I don't think Tom would stoop to that.) But this would certainly be a bad time to fight over which one is the real Annie, with the threat from Loup outside.
