Looks like Jones is indeed in orbit. And not for the first time, plus Ysengoyote knew what orbit is. So he did something more than just pushing. Perhaps Coyote sent her there before?

So it looks like we are getting into 'this' again, seeing as it's happened before? More and more it feels like Annie is definitely a pawn in several people's game, as opposed to simply being caught in the works.

'And it's happened before'? Is she perhaps an alien who landed on earth 3 billion years ago?
What are the big brown objects? tree trunks, totems, or a circle of standing stones?

I think she's just been thrown into space by coyote at least once before. Brown objects are probably tree trunks, maybe he made the totem out of one he cut down?

Given his control over trees, he could have made them grow into totems as well.

But Jones being an ET would be a good explanation for her being on earth So I will keep that option in the back of my head. It looks as if the brown thingies are very deliberately drawn and Annie is getting closer to one of them. A circle of totems would be an interesting twist :-)

Wood totems in the wood... Opponents. Forest creatures that weren't so fond of the idea of a governance change in the person of Whoever-This-Is.

I don’t think that she’s an alien. Remember the chapter on her life? She was “born” in the molten rock of the early Earth. {edit} Corrected above and link: www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1111{edit 2} To see her life, go to previous pages.

I don’t think that she’s an alien. Remember the chapter on her life? She was “born” in the molten rock of the early Earth. Or: travelling through space, she collided with the young earth when the surface was still (partly) molten, awoke from the impact and then surfaced. She has no conscious memory from before the moment when she emerged so all options are open.

I kind of suspected it'd happened before. That is why Jones looked so irritated. She CAN feel emotions!

Hm, if this has happened before, I wonder when?
Personal Theory: Jones' previous re-entry caused the Tunguska Event. SUUUURE it was "an air burst of a meteoroid".

Jones was born from a forming Earth's molten crust. Wild theory: Jones is a retroactive entity that is the embodiment of the Moon.

I suspect that this is indeed part of the Voice's plan (as I'll call the new entity who's "neither Ysengrin nor Coyote" for now; I don't feel at home with the portmanteau names that have been coined for him). Not just strip Annie of Jones' protection, but also draw her attention away from the Court's plight in so doing - all the more with the Voice talking about Jones in a way to put the focus on her rather than on what Ysengrin did to the Court, and at least delay Annie speaking to the Voice about it. (Much as Coyote did in "Fire Spike" - I suspect that part of his greeting Jones as "Wandering Eye" was to draw attention away from Jones' attempt to get Annie to return to the Court.) He's following the policy of "Take control of the conversation; do not let the other person have the opportunity to do so."
With the Voice in this state, diplomacy may not be an option after all; he'll never give anyone the opportunity to use it. Annie will be fortunate indeed if she even manages to remember why she's here.

Wildspec: "Neither" will actually be the name he gives himself.

Well, there goes the "naming" theory, unless she just renamed him Ysengrin. The waving tail of the speech bubble is still weirding me out. Maybe, he's/they're in a state of flux. Unless she finds Neither as a puppy, I fear it could be bad. Jones was born from a forming Earth's molten crust. Wild theory: Jones is a retroactive entity that is the embodiment of the Moon. I've always gone on the assumption that she's the Etheric embodiment of the Earth, retroactively placed in history due to the Ether's "etherness". But, her complete lack of Etheric presence has always seemed weird. We can take your theory a step further, and make her Theia. Maybe, her separation from the Ether is due to her fundamental foreignness.

Jones is the meteorite that killed the dinosaurs! Except she both remembers what the dinosaurs looked like, and predates them? Or are you suggesting that she grew up on the planet, but then something put her in orbit just before the time the dinosaurs got wiped out? Coyote wasn't around then.

The interesting thing about this page is that Annie refers to the speaker as Ysengrin - meaning they must sound alike - but to the reader, the speaker doesn't sound like Ysengrin. Ysengrin doesn't talk like this - Coyote does. Ysengrin doesn't joke and say "hehe" and talk so flippantly. Just another hint to the blending of their personas. I wonder if Coyote simply took over Ysengrin's body and mind, kicking the other out or relegating him to a helpless observer in the back of his own mind?

In fairness, when Annie last saw him, he still looked like his old self. She completely missed the whole transformation thing, so it's probably an assumption on her part that he's who he was but with a broken mind.

We are getting into this again (Although I have to wonder why Jones claims being able to take Annie with her, if Coyote defeated her before). What are the big brown objects? tree trunks, totems, or a circle of standing stones? Or perhaps... Look at the middle of panel four...

I thought perhaps Annie's headed into this area of the forest (and that would explain "the brown things"), although the atmosphere seems different.

I imagine Coysengrin is using his ability to melt into the trees (shown earlier) to travel from one to another (maybe thru their roots) so that his voice keeps playfully jumping around. Fun! Definitely a Coyote sort of thing to do....

I don't know if Coyete defeated her before or if this new dude has her beat now. I mean she's just in orbit. Sure that would be a big deal for us, but against Jones this is a stall nothing more. For all we know she could have taken Annie in that situation, like maybe if she had a grip on Annie sending her to orbit wouldn't have been viable, since her grip is impossible to measure. The real question is how long is it gonna take Jones to get back, and how is she going to respond.

Listen, you live long enough, eventually you end up in orbit from time to time. It's just one of those immortality things.
