"After we do this, Antimony, we'll sit down and talk about it all"
"Dad, stop raising death flags"
"We'll talk about your mother and everything"
"Dad"
"Everything, Antimony. Later"
"Dad stop"

I wonder if he's going to give her back her makeup. This seems to be foreshadowed by the "moment to get ready" in her room thing; if the comic just meant "let me get the knife", Annie might well have just said that. It's not as though Annie habitually has to perform a ritual or anything before she can use her power. No, seriously. We've had endless theoretical speculation about whether the makeup actually represents some sort of real metaphysical power over and above simple feminine adornment, especially focusing on the tradition of eyeblack as metaphysical protection. In a way, Anthony taking Annie's makeup was like Delilah cutting Samson's hair. He made her powerless. Even if this is not a factor, I still suspect Annie's maturity may have convinced him she's a completely different personality, and he may have come to realise he's being an arsewomble about the whole thing. Oh, he's known all along he was an arsewomble about the whole thing. He just hasn't done anything about it. I don't think it's the makeup though. The makeup is an ambiguous symbol. It's "Annie's thing" as Kat put it, but it's also a mask. She didn't wear it when she was alone at the Court during her first summer vacation, or when she was in the Forest during her second one. And I don't think she's been powerless for a while. She regained her focus, her confidence and her fire already. I agree with you he is probably looking at his daughter very differently by now. I'm hoping for words of ackowledgement. Maybe even - gasp - affection.
I think we might see some acknowledgement. But affection would be wildly out of character for him at this point; I'm honestly not sure a hug would really be anything but extremely awkward.
As for the makeup, I don't think she'll put it back on? Ysen already mentioned in the past that he doesn't like it and thinks she looks better, more real without it; putting it back on might give an already power mad Ysenoyote an excuse to be dismissive. I think she's going to get the dagger.

Anyway, whatever you are going say, Tony, please do not screw up. He is Tony. Would you ask the sky to please not be blue? What can I say, last sunset it worked.

Also, how Mighty Biceps is going to bip them all out, without Mighty Eyebrows around? Perhaps slightly less accuracy in where they bip to, e.g. they miss the ground by about eight inches. Or, of course, Parley may have learned better control.

Oh? is Annie a peer to him now? Maybe alittle impressed she took on Jeane, and is useful in a crisis?

Those who said another big step in Tony/Annie relations would happen on page 2000 might just get some humongous cookies. Unless it happens on page 1999. (Man, I hope it's something good...) What I don't understand at all, though, is panel 4. Smitty, my man. Let's talk. Number 1: Having luck on your side is always of use, especially when dealing with an angry and/or capricious god. Parley might be dead if she hadn't gotten lucky while fighting Jeanne. (Of course, you almost died instead, so it's okay if you're scared, but if so then just say it.) Number 2: Ysenote is asking for a meeting with the Court. You are the Court Medium. It's not optional for you to be there! Weird.

Where did that go?
Oh, and take Rey.

Oh and also by the way I think this is a suicide mission, I can't believe the adults are agreeing to it, I can't BELIEVE Tony and Jones' reaction to all this is just "Sure, fine," and I also can't believe everyone is just taking Annie's word that she can communicate with Ysengrin. This is all SO silly. I guess Eglamore is the only one who knows what happened the last time Annie was confident she could communicate (Annie: "Please calm down!" Ysengrin: "RAAAAAAAAAAA!"), but that's still no excuse for this nonsense. Tony has gone from "I'll keep Annie from the forest because she's not safe there because the gods get so angry" to "Well, a furiously angry god just attacked the court, I'll immediately let my daughter go try to calm him down." Tony sucks. They shouldn't be allowing Annie to do this, but I guess the plot has to chug along somehow. Word of Tom, p. 428: " I forgot to include a character that says "Uh, I don't think that's such a good idea", at every juncture."

I have NO IDEA what Annie's dad is about to say, but whatever it is, it's going to be memorable. Hopefully it's a good memorable I hope he says something like either 'well done' or 'please get back safely' or 'I love you' or 'I'm sorry' or 'your mom would be proud'. Or even, 'I'm glad you're growing your hair back'.

I forgot to include a character that says "Uh, I don't think that's such a good idea", at every juncture. [/a]"[/quote] I suspect the Court takes care to stifle such an approach in the education it provides, to ensure that they don't get people who would say "Oh, I don't think that's such a good idea" about things like the Omega Device.

Number 2: Ysenote is asking for a meeting with the Court. You are the Court Medium. It's not optional for you to be there! This isn't an official meeting with the Court. Annie's volunteered to go. Jones and Anthony have given her their approval, but neither are at the top of the Court hierarchy (Jones isn't even, technically, a member of the Court, but just an observer residing there). The Court administration hasn't been approached about this, or given its consent. (Which could lead to potential trouble with the negotiations. If it's just Annie calming Ysengrin down, getting him to put aside his anger, by bringing up his fatherly feelings for her, it'll be all right. But if Ysengrin starts laying down conditions for peace such as the Court dismantling that power plant and the Omega Device, Annie and Jones don't have the authority to agree to them. Not that it matters, since I suspect the Court leadership would sooner see every man, woman, and child in the Court slaughtered by Ysengrin than agree to abandon their experiments.)

... then Antimony, as the Forest's Medium, can carry those demands to the Court. It's a strategy meeting of the Forest leadership and their representative.
Thing is, there should be no representative of the Court at such a meeting. Which definitely means George, James, and Andrew shouldn't be there, and Ys would include Jones (probably) and Tony (almost certainly) in that exclusion. Ys and Annie need to be discussing what the Forest's initial proposal will be (both in what they demand and in what they'll give up) and also what the Forest would be willing to settle for - and the Court shouldn't ever learn the latter.

]... then Antimony, as the Forest's Medium, can carry those demands to the Court. It's a strategy meeting of the Forest leadership and their representative. I don't think Annie's seeing it that way. I think she sees it as just trying to calm down an old friend who's let his anger (and the after-effects of consuming a trickster) control him.

That one is VERY Tony, and also the most meaningful to me: Annie's long hair was not only her "thing", a mark of her individuality and a sign of how much she's grown from that little girl at Good Hope, but also a symbol of her connection with the ether and her fire-spirit. Complimenting her hair would be an acknowledgement of everything she is as a person, and a bigger gesture of approval than Tony has shown thus far.
