When the whippoorwill Whippoors with the wind, The wind can whippoor back... Yeah I know, it was all I could think of and it's been up for half an hour now with no thread...

Looks like we need a new bridge.

I hadn't realized they were so far apart. It looks like the first, seed-grown tree is "reaching" for the forest? And is the arm-grown tree (rooted in Laser-cow Park) reading towards the first(?) The distance seems too far to link and make a arch...

I mean, not to be critical, but there's a reason there are only four comments ahout this page. It's not really necessary. The page only establishes that the two trees are very tall and reasonably far apart, which we already know.
In my opinion, page 1969 is just fat to be trimmed. Let's hope something happens on Wednesday.

He's going to use these huge tree arms to pull the two sides of the gap together, there won't be any need for a bridge.

Edit Edit: sleepcircle probably has it right VVV

In my opinion, page 1969 is just fat to be trimmed. I disagree; sometimes events need room to breathe. You could just be suffering from Webcomic Update Time Dilation Syndrome.

A new bridge, on Forest terms?

It does strike me as a sort of "Recap Page", but I think sleepcircle's right about why it's there.
I'd wondered (even half-feared) whether today's page would have an "end-of-chapter" icon - meaning, since it's Monday, that Wednesday's page might be a Treatise Bonus Page, meaning in turn that Friday's page would be Tea announcing another two weeks' break, but fortunately we're not getting that yet.

The last book finished 6 chapters ago, we're a while from a treatise yet.

Yes, this and the previous 2 pages only reinforce my sense of deep gravitas about this event, just like, in cinematics, there are 3 or more shots of silent people staring in puzzlement and disbelief at the strange gigantic forms in the sky, just before the forms reveals themselves as an alien mothership...

Now that's a magnificent tree. Which also made me think of something: here's a soundtrack for the tree growth scene. Also, looking at the background pic of that YT vid, I have a new fan theory. Gunnerkrigg is the Castle Court in the Sky. Robots [x]. Trees [x]. Unused deserted buildings [x]. Humans with amazing level of technology [x] (especially after Kat is finished). Seed Bismuth will turn out to be the magical crystal that had prominent role in the movie [x]. Everything checks out, Tom just wanted write a fanfic prequel to the movie.
Okay I'm not serious but I WANT TO BELIEVE.

Baby when I met you there was peace unknown I set out to get you with a fine tooth comb I was soft inside There was something going on
You do something to me that I can't explain Grow me closer and I feel no pain Every sway of my branch We got something going on
Tender love is blind It requires a dedication All this love we feel needs no conversation We grow it together, ah ha Making love with each other, ah ha
Big trees in the court That is what we are No more we are short How can that be wrong? Grow away with me To another world And we rely on each other, ah ha From one lover to another, ah ha

I think we actually agree on the direction, but maybe not exactly the intent. I suggest: panel 1 shows (in the distance) the 2nd, arm-grown, Laser-Cow Park tree is (maybe) reaching towards the other tree (or past it, to the forest/bridge). Panel two now focuses on the base of the 1st, seed-grown tree. Panel 3 shows the same seed-born tree, now reaching towards... Panel 4, the demolished bridge and the forest beyond. So its not clear exactly what they are reaching for (to me), but I think we agree on the direction.... we will know more about the intent soon, I expect.

I rather like that idea. Coyote split the earth between them, Y 2.0 will unite it. That might be a good thing. I've wondered at times whether Coyote's chasm probably helped worsen relations between the Court and the Wood; the literal rift encouraging a metaphorical rift. Maybe with the ravine gone, they could try meeting each other, talking, finding a peaceful resolution for that quarrel. All the more so since we know that a lot of the forest-folk don't seem to want a war with the Court; Ysengrin's army and the shadow-folk do, but they could be overruled. (And if it's possible, I'd advocate doing it quickly, before Coyote can somehow take fresh shape and grow again. Annie, do you suppose you and your friends can toss that knife-tooth and the rest of those pieces of Coyote's essence into the nearest volcanic chasm?) The big challenge will be to reach Ysengrin, of course. We can always hope that, after humbling the Court with first the destruction of the bridge, followed by whatever he's doing with those trees, he'll calm down enough to be willing to talk - and that the nobler, more fatherly side of him that Annie's touched, is still available. (There's also the question of how these events will have affected the Court leadership; for all we know, they might be taking a tone of "Negotiations don't work on that lot. Time to respond with the only language they understand. Pet a dog and it'll bite your hand; kick it and it'll bow its head.")

In light of the next page, perhaps panel 3 here is the seed-born tree "summoning" the roots from the Forest to burst across the Annan gorge.... Im thinking of it rather like Bela Lugosi's trademark "vampire summoning victim"-hand-draw motion, for some reason...

YES. HELL YES. I BELIEVE TOO. Princess Sheeta is obviously a descendant of Antimony, and her amulet is a blinker stone fused with a tiny piece of the giant Seed Bismuth. The ominous-sounding Omega Project is the super-weapon that Musta was after. IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW!
