Being honest the Kat and Paz relationship still does absolutely nothing for me. Between just kind of being crowbarred in to start with and Paz barely having any development before or after it just always feels like a total anticlimax every time it comes up, especially to end the chapter on. Kind of isn't helping that it feels like the comic's been stumbling around kind of just waiting for the next shoe to drop for five chapters in a row now.
Author comments got a chuckle out of me though.

I do sorta agree that their relationship is anti-climactic in the sense that it's simple and drama-free. But I like that they are just together in a such a calm way.

Yeah, OK, HD Remaster is fine, but I mean, isn't the retro, AUTHENTIC game so much better? Isn't that why Kat still hangs on to that old Original GameConsole?

I'm just glad Paz didn't get her The Video Game. That was such an overhyped piece of shit, I'm not sure the relationship could have survived if she got it for Kat.

At least it was funny following the controversy when The Expansion got shelved in favour of The First DLC, The Big DLC and The Cosmetic DLC.

No need to dwell on the simple and drama-free, just enough to show that there are normal parts in the characters' lives, and make a joke.

Kind of isn't helping that it feels like the comic's been stumbling around kind of just waiting for the next shoe to drop for five chapters in a row now. To be fair about it, I think that this is the kind of story that Tom wants to write - more about quiet character interaction, with one or two dramatic confrontations because they became integral to the story, but which aren't where his heart lies. I recall he mentioned once that the first story he wrote was about a couple of movie monsters fighting, but with the core moment being that they decided to stop fighting and become friends instead. Perhaps waiting for "the other shoe to drop" in this story is like expecting a mouse to have an elephant's trunk, something it was not intended to have.

I didn't care for all that and have instead downloaded The Unofficial Mod from a fan forum. Way better!

If only they were more faithful to the source material when making The Movie Adaptation, it wouldn't have been such a flop.

This purchase will appear on your monthly statement as "A Video Game" and includes a privacy UMD case label you can put over the original.
While you're shopping with us, why not check out our "A Movie" section?

I wonder, if the bonus page will be Arthur talking about "model options". I also wonder, if this light-hearted chapter is to prepare us for a punch to the gut, next chapter.

Once, many years ago, back when I was still young, we used to play the video game "Decathlon" on the C64. At least this one game was not relaxing at all.

Author comments got a chuckle out of me though. I can see why you'd feel that way, although I don't think it was "crowbarred" in honestly. In fact, I actually thought it was introduced very naturally. I do agree that I'd like to see some more development for them as a couple, or at least get a more all-encompassing idea of what their chemistry is like, although I also find the simplicity of their relationship kind of endearing like zirka said. Besides, if your girlfriend buys you A Video Game, you know you've found a good one.

The game is really a game called a video game, instead of just a way to avoid establishing a time period. Promise.

Going back a bit, but on this note, I would like to say that one of the things I really love about this comic is that even seemingly small-scale or tertiary chapters have consequences later on. The first Doctor Disaster chapter seems like kind of an odd, albeit fun detour at first, but his ability to create simulations becomes integral in chapter 23, for instance. Even Tall Tales struck me as a bit less important on the first reading, but ended up pretty important in the grander scheme of the comic's story. Tom's writing is very deliberate, and I think he does a skillful job of working these more episodic moments into the comic's wider continuity, all things considered.

Paz knows what her girl needs. This was a nice chapter. I wonder, if the bonus page will be Arthur talking about "model options". I also wonder, if this light-hearted chapter is to prepare us for a punch to the gut, next chapter. That's the Gunnerkrigg spirit; something must go terribly wrong after so much going (?) right.

Because her and the gang playing those games and watching princess mononoke just raises further questions.

I mean, Kat mentions reading Batman and listening to The Prodigy in other chapters (outside of bonus pages) so I don't necessarily see why they wouldn't be.

I remember playing a computer game with that theme then on a neighbor's computer. The main thing I remember about it was the theme music, but unfortunately, I can't translate it into a written format.
