Oh don't worry, he'll find a way to put everyone done next update.
"Exceptional, I hadn't expected that you'd be this weak with such an amount of muscle. Clearly there's a problem with the earliest designs, we will have to start all over."

Well, yes. When he's really impressed. I think his praise is more for Kat's work than Robot, however. Oh don't worry, he'll find a way to put everyone done next update. He puts down Annie, but we've seen him praising Kat before.

I think his praise is more for Kat's work than Robot, however. That's how I read it. Then again, Robot is a fanatic for Kat's work. More so than most robots. He may take to Kat's biotech more quickly than others, through obsessive dedication and faith. As far as we know, he's had those legs and nerves for 48 hours.

Do I see a hint of a smile in Tony's eyes? ctso74: Help me out, how do you know it's been 48 hours since he got this body?

I don't get it, robot has moved a lot better in his muscle body before hasn't he?

By the way, Shadow 2 clearly is not concerned with Tony recognizing him as a shadow creature, but recognizing him as wearing no pants. ...is Shadow not wearing any pants? What is it with you guys and Shadow's pants/lack thereof? His legs look like they have little wrinkles in them, possibly indicating black pants, so.....maybe???

I don't get it, robot has moved a lot better in his muscle body before hasn't he? He was seriously damaged. He has a lot of new parts to get used to and He's in recovery mode.

I don't get it, robot has moved a lot better in his muscle body before hasn't he? When we last saw him in the fight with Jeanne, he only had the torso and arms.

I don't get it, robot has moved a lot better in his muscle body before hasn't he? Walking is a very, very complex process. It's so complex that engineers don't even try to make walking robots if they can help it, even though they have zero problem making extremely precise robotic arms. Robot needs to relearn to walk with legs that work completely differently from the ones he had before. His processor has to process all sensory input correctly and send a multitude of micro correction messages to the muscles at all times in order to maintain balance. And his muscles need to execute all those micro movements to maintain balance and at the same time carry all of robot's weight. When Tony says "exceptional", he is not having a good day. He says it because from a scientific point of view, this is exceptional.

He says it because from a scientific point of view, this is exceptional. Let me back this up regarding the complexity of walking. When you walk, you don't just use muscles in your legs with a little bit of balance. There's also involvement with muscles in your hips and lower back to keep your weight from falling to one side (the reason you don't walk with your feet directly under your center of mass), and counterbalancing movement in your shoulders. Even within your legs, you have a whole range of motions and tensions to keep everything both stable and in proper position for efficient foot-strike and propelling.

This is one of the most aggravating moments in the whole story. Why? The guy is clearly capable of recognising achievements, yet continues to ignore his own daughter's continued involvement in something that should be well beyond the capabilities of a 15 year old, even if her contribution to the project was playing research and design assistant to Kat.

That would be like wearing pants exactly the colour of your skin. ;-)

What is it with you guys and Shadow's pants/lack thereof? I think the comments will move on to other things once the core of this chapter gets underway (assuming that this is the set-up and whatever Annie, Kat, and Reynardine will be doing together after the grown-ups leave).

Your naive trust in this forum's ability to manage their priorities is adorable. Personally, I will be mentioning Shadow's camouflaged/non-existent pants in every page of this chapter that he appears in, and probably several which he doesn't appear in.

So, who else is likely to turn up for this occasion? - Rey was invited to come later. - Paz was helping out earlier, so surely she should be here. - George and Andrew?* - Jones??
Also, when do we get to go down into the basement?
* Being part of Team Jeanne, Red and Aliyu might also appear, were it not for Red's snit. Maybe just Aliyu?

Also, when do we get to go down into the basement? I've been wondering that as well. It's possible that Tom means it to be, not the central point of the chapter, but the concluding scene, and that most of the chapter will be the "work-day" that we're currently seeing - though I hope not.

He was requested to go somewhere and informed that "the coast should be clear" at 3. I wonder if she asked him to snoop around somewhere while the person was away from their office, in Kat's lab.

The impression I got was that he was to come to the lab at 3:00, when presumably Antony (and Juliette and Arthur as well) would have left.

Snooping on Tony is reasonable possibility, but it has been done before so I hope for some new snooping. Such as Juliette and Arthur. Their story is perfect to gain Kat's support, a little too perfect. A little verification would go nicely with the trust Kat gives out freely.

Do I see a hint of a smile in Tony's eyes? ctso74 : Help me out, how do you know it's been 48 hours since he got this body? I don't. I said, "As far as we know". It could have been a long time, or it could have been a short time. Due to Robot's desires and religious zeal, I'm betting it didn't take Robot too long. To show Robot being extremely adept, I choose 48 hours as an absurdly short amount of time, to get accustomed to new legs.
