Now she starts noticing? And once more I am very happy to see Outdoor Tony's being at ease and in good spirits and at peace with himself.

Ok, maybe that's a light trap they're setting-up? Damn, it's got me stumped.

Oh yes. Tony is so different when no one is around, he is doing his thing and he got the girl he likes all to himself with no distractions. And his ability to be happy and pleased when everything is going his way negates all the other times how? I am glad Antimony, and us, will get to hear the story as Kat's mum believes it to be, but I think the Anthony haters still reserve the right to hate him. Everyone has reasons for doing stuff. All that matters though is the result.

From what? =) And once more I am very happy to see Outdoor Tony's being at ease and in good spirits and at peace with himself. Looks like he only doesn't get along with people when there are more than one of someone else. and he got the girl he likes all to himself with no distractions. Are you sure about this? Because, maybe if he saw Surma as not only an unqualified-but-trying assistant, he would immediately go "derrrrrp" like with Brynnie?

I am glad Antimony, and us, will get to hear the story as Kat's mum believes it to be, but I think the Anthony haters still reserve the right to hate him. Everyone has reasons for doing stuff. All that matters though is the result. Certainly the Tony haters may hate him all they want. After all, his behaviour towards his daughter has been horrible. I myself reserve my full verdict on him until the entire story has been told. Maybe there will be redemption for Tony, maybe there won't. Don't forget, however, that this is a flashback. This is not anybody trying to excuse Tony's current behaviour, this is us getting a glimpse at the person that Tony used to be. I don't think that getting present Tony out in the wilderness would make him revert to a similarly relaxed self, I believe him to be too, well, not broken, but... damaged... for that. Perhaps at some point in the future, should the story happen to end well for him (which I am by no means sure that it will, by the way.) But this is a glimpse at an earlier Tony, one that has not yet made the mistakes we readers know him to have made, and I for one am glad to see that Outdoors Tony exists (or used to exist), as opposed to Buttoned Up Reserved Tony only.

Tony is almost TOO relaxed. If you laugh at a girl when she doesn't catch something you threw at her, you'll never win her heart, you dork.
I'd really like to know 2 things at this point, other than the obvious question of how they got together. 1) What's the deal with Tony's past, and what are his powers? 2) What are they actually DOING in Brazil with all these creepy crawlies?

Actually, you know what, even though we know next to nothing about Tony, I would rather see Surma's story and her past. She no doubt watched her weak and ailing mother slowly die over 10-12 years, and probably went through the same moment of shocked discovery - it was her fault - that Antimony did, years later. Yet, at least outwardly, she doesn't seem bothered or weighed down by it. At least, not to the degree her daughter does in the present day. I'd like to see the internal processes that led Surma, after weighing all the facts and seeing her own mom die, to decide to go through the same thing herself. Also, the whole fire elemental/human endless cycle of maternal sacrifice thing is way too fascinating to never get its own short story.

Now I'm kinda wondering if Tony was a forest creature at one time, or descended from one. Remember how shy/nervous Rabbit-Boy was around Annie before he recognized her as the Forest Medium?! Maybe that's why he doesn't do well with Human emotions...he's busy concentrating on not resembling a fish or a bird or a Chickcharney. hehehehe

Gosh, Tony and Annie are so similar! I just keep being struck by this thought, even though Tom was so clear about it. All throughout, I always thought Annie was most like her mom, but I actually think her dad is a way bigger influence than I was expecting. I do think Annie is still like Surma in many ways, particularly with her medium and psychopomp skills and her love of adventure and rule-breaking, (and also her temper –– Annie has anger-based temper tantrums but Tony so far just seems to have panic attack like breakdowns) but this change in Tony being out in nature is so much like when Annie is in the forest! Compare this Annie with this Tony and then this Annie with this Tony.

Tony doesn't like Surma at all right now. He only sees her as a puppy, a comfortable nuisance. At most, a passenger, where he needs a fellow scientist. I think he regreted the impossibility to drive her back to the plane more for himself than her sake.

Interestingly, the next comic shows her playfully splashing him with some river water. This causes sparks, revealing him to be a Tony-made robot, while Tony's been working in the forest this whole time. It is acting too human, after all.
Rookie mistake, Carver. Never go full human. Plus, make you Life Model Decoys waterproof, next time.

I'm hearing the CinemaSins narrator in my head now: "Here, have an apple, it'll make you look even more like an asshole!" or "Have my apple: this way I don't look like an asshole!"
Ding!

Damn, I'm starting to resent Tony again. Seeing him at ease like this makes me angry that he can't act like that around his daughter. I hope so much to see some kind of change in their relationship after this. No matter what kind of change.

What I'm thinking is that Annie, after hearing this story, should inform her father that they are going on a camping trip together.

And here we see Tony finally beginning the dark magic ritual that forces Surma to fall in love with him. Truly, truly sinister. Steel yourselves folks, for the worst is yet to come

Actually we've already seen this side of him in adult Tony, through the blinker stone when he had that conversation with Donny. Remember the whole "This doesn't excuse him, but I wanted to show you a side of your father that most people don't get to see" storyline?
