Ahahaha, it's like Annie's channeling the collective thoughts of the forum. Awesome!
Kudos to those who guessed Kat might make Tony a new hand.

Please, not another "Annie falls apart" storyline.
I hope we can resolve this and move on with the story again.

Ahaha. Even better. "In which some explanation is requested." Annie doesn't have any delusions as to which mad scientist is crazier and more dangerous.

The context helps but I think it's the pose in that final panel, Antimony leaning forward (which changes the relative position of her head to her rolled-forward shoulders and with most of her body out-of-panel) with her mouth open, that gives me a strong Charles Schultz vibe from today's comic.

Though I'm sure someone will just link to the page in GKC where I saw it three years ago and forgot about it.

Comparisons to GC and Peanuts have been made before on the forum, at least once by me, though I was contrasting evolving art styles. Also there was a question to Tom about Peanuts a long time ago.

Why wouldn't Kat have told her about this before? Are they growing apart because they're not in the same class anymore?

Kudos to those who guessed Kat might make Tony a new hand. hmmm, since it seems they haven't attached the new hand yet, the fact that his replacement hand looks flesh colored (see previous page) then, means he must have a new prosthesis; his old one was white: www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1546

I love (or maybe hate?) how Annie's mind immediately jumps to "Well, that's not my Kat, so my dad must have DONE something to her." Maybe her own view of her father isn't quite as stellar as she usually projects.
Also, panel 2: looking directly into the camera like on The Office. Good stuff.

Maybe her own view of her father isn't quite as stellar as she usually projects. In fairness to Antimony, in the Gunnerverse it wouldn't be impossible to discover that a spell of charm person, a curse[d teapot], or a mind-altering machine had somehow brought about this transformation of the Kat/Anthony dynamic. It would be improbable and I suspect it would make for a lower-quality story than I've come to expect from GC but any of those things (and more) are possible. On that note, is there anyone here who was never unnerved at some point during their adolescence by a parent/parents getting along too well with a friend?

Why wouldn't Kat have told her about this before? Are they growing apart because they're not in the same class anymore? Judging from the last panel here, only 3 days have passed between Juliet's advising Kat of the colleague that would like to work with her and Annie's coming to meet Kat. In that case, it wouldn't be so surprising that they haven't seen each other for a few days and that Kat simply hasn't had the chance to tell Annie yet. Unless, of course, the two nights and three days that are shown in the days-are-passing montage aren't meant to mean exactly three days as such, but just the passing of an unspecified amount of time in general. (Which might be supported by Annie's longer and Kat's shorter hair.) In that case, I would have expected the girls to have met before then, and in that case, Kat's not telling Annie would feel a bit more... sinister? sad? let's say meaningful.

I wonder if Tony's ever thought about doing that surgery again (you know the one) but with a full body double to pay a substitute.
Cheat the system, Tony. They want an arm? Have infinite arms.

Why wouldn't Kat have told her about this before? Are they growing apart because they're not in the same class anymore? That's the main thing that's concerned me about this story. Even if not as much time has passed as people have argued based on Annie's current look (the longer hair and summer t-shirt), Kat's change towards Anthony (especially given how intense her dislike of him was before) couldn't have taken place overnight. (Short of the "mind control" theory that imaginaryfriend brought up. Kat does have an odd look in her eyes - but I agree with imaginaryfriend that it wouldn't fit the mood of the comic as well.)

I think Annie was unconsciously relying on Kat to be angry at Tony for her. Now that she doesn't have Kat to channel her "how could he do this!!" feelings, she's going to have to come to terms with them herself.

(Short of the "mind control" theory that imaginaryfriend brought up. Kat does have an odd look in her eyes - but I agree with imaginaryfriend that it wouldn't fit the mood of the comic as well.) I agree, a bit of time has passed since Annie last saw Kat. Since then she had the visit with the Shadow Men, a meet with Tony and work on the project. I wouldn't sell Kat's humanity short. If she's working with Tony on a new hand she'll had had to examine his current condition. That would not have been easy. An amputation under the best circumstances leaves leaves a person with a condition that can be hard to look at. Tony's one handed field operation had to have been grisly even if he got help afterward. I can see Kat's compassion coming into play when confronted with the reality of Tony's condition. She also might be taking the long view. Helping Annie's dad would be helping Annie. Besides Kat knows how much Annie loves her dad. Annie's reaction to this might be from her world suddenly changing again. Not only does Kat not hate her dad but they seem to have a friendly relationship. There could be a touch of jealousy that Kat has a better relationship with her dad than she herself does. Ouch!

Annie's hair looked fine in the previous page but in the last panel why does it look like a piece was bitten off or just not cut well? If Kat tells the whole truth to Annie it might go well but if Annie runs off who can she talk to but Renard?

Please, not another "Annie falls apart" storyline. I hope we can resolve this and move on with the story again. Annie does not get catatonic, burst in flames or run away somewhere, but instead she asks Kat what the hell is going on. That seems like obvious progress to me. Frankly, I claim that most readers on here would react in a similar way being exposed to such a shock. I know I would if my father told me he wanted to chill and work together with his father's new wife, whom he hates. Yes.

Wonder if Tony will be a wedge between them.
Though I doubt it, because IMO it would be out of character for Kat to forget his behaviour to Anne to the point of being amicable and laughing with him, simply because of scientific curiosity/motivation.
Therefore, I can only think Tony must have given Kat a pretty solid explanation/mea culpa about his usual douchebaggery

The time skip montage a couple pages ago was weird, though. Annie's hair even grew.
Didn't Kat and Anne meet at all during that whole time? Or they have met, but Kat simply failed to mention being working with Annie's dad?
