This chapter:
"Kat you must help us fight this scourge of Shadow Men!"
"Oh noo! But where are they?"
turns on spotlight, everyone casts a shadow
"EVERYWHERE!" D: "My god we're already surrounded!"

I get the feeling that we are starting to approach the ending of the major comic storyline. The final pieces are being manouvered into place (Jeanne is freed, the Court is unprotected against Coyote and the forest, Kat is being approached by the Court to help them with something, Several ominous comments in front of Robot about how things are totally not dangerous at all, Annie being coerced into her psychopomp role).
It just seems to me like all the remaining mysteries and plot threads are tied up with each other, and when one starts to fall so will everything else. I think that in the next few chapters we will reach some sort of showdown which will end the comic as we know it.
Although you'd have thought that if it was ending we'd have heard something from Tom, so maybe it will take longer than that.

And yes, the climax generally comes shortly before the ending, but the length of climaxes and the cool down after can vary depending on the story and its pacing. Not to mention, even if the story is setting up for the climax, there's no telling how long it'll take to do so.

Maybe the secret security service calls themselves "The Shadow Men"... And they want to recruit Shadow... And everyone will be friends...

Not necessarily that Shadow Men. the secret court service are actually shadows in disguise; their eyes hidden in their insignias!

Not to mention, even if the story is setting up for the climax, there's no telling how long it'll take to do so. There is no reason for a story to have only "one" climax. I don't feel that we are close to the ending of the story. I agree that this looks like the prequel to a climax but not necessarily the big one before the ending.

If Tom's going to have the Shadow-men invade the Court, I hope he'll do it in a way that won't leave the readers with the impression thereby that the Founders were entirely right to impose such torment and servitude upon Jeanne and the green man, and that Annie and Co. should have left them in that torment and servitude.

I doubt Coyote is in direct control of the Shadow Men. I'm starting to wonder about the end of the last Jeanne chapter, when Coyote sniffed the air and smiled. Perhaps, it had nothing to do with any complex machinations towards the Court. Maybe, it was more of a general underlying desire for entertaining chaos. The Court thinks he's scheming, but Coyote just wants to have fun. * insert Cyndi Lauper song here *

That's not a face, it's a Court symbol (Seen here and here, and Kat had it in one of the treatises.) Juliette knows about Shadow, so this chapter is probably about the Court doing something to him.

Will Shadow suddenly remember s/he is Coyote, too?

Oh...now I get it. Coyote's Shadow Men, and the shadowy surveillance forces inside the Court, combined in the picture with shadow silhouettes having the insignia as eyes. Clever (the author, not me, who didn't even figure it out after reading the discussion thread at first).

[breaks down door, runs into thread]
Everybody! Look very carefully at this page! There is a symbol on the shadows which you have doubtlessly never noticed before, which I believe might be present earlier in the comic!

Not necessarily that Shadow Men. the secret court service are actually shadows in disguise; their eyes hidden in their insignias! Heh heh. Hahahaha. AHAHAHAHAHA! AT LAST! FINALLY my first Wildspec is PROVEN INCONTROVERTIBLY!! Yesssss... In all seriousness, though, I'm really looking forward to some better exposition about the other Shadow/Glass-Eyed Men. I remember putting together that Wildspec mainly out of frustration for the total lack of information we have on all but one of them (and we still don't even know what his past was like), and while we certainly won't get all the answers in this chapter, I hope we'll at least be able to ask some better questions.
