Oh no, we missed almost the entire story! It's too bad it really looked like it was going places.

Oh no, we missed almost the entire story! It's too bad it really looked like it was going places. I cannot disagree more! The Great Lord Coyote, in his beneficence, simply cut out the boring parts and got to the exciting part, starring him!

Haha, so he WAS the goose AND the lake AND the dead brush. No wonder the animals looked away, it was probably out of respect to Coyote, since they knew the lake hadn't been there the day before.
Also, Big C-dog, you're very easily tricked if you couldn't remember you're NOT dead if you can still do things such as seeing, hearing, having a basic sense of self,...

That bit plus Ysengrin's monologue gave me a nasty reminder of one of the best, worst episodes of the animated Batman reboot - wherein Clayface hides in a sewer and splits parts of his body to create scouts. One (coincidentally called Annie) is autonomous for so long she forgets where she came from and what's awaiting her after her mission. Clayface eventually shows up, and things don't end well - not that the progenitor cares.

must be nice to suddenly remember you are a god, and it actually be true for once

I want to see Parley and Smitty's faces right now They're probably doing their best trying to look interested in the story and wondering if Coyote'll eat them if they yawn.

At first I wondered why there were so many Robot faces in the third panel. Then I realized that Coyote must be playing another trick and this is really a chapter about robots.

And the dead human remembered that they weren't a dead corpse, they were a mighty human! And they laughed at how easily this world had tricked them, thinking they could die! And so the meat and the flies and the maggots were gone, since they no longer needed to pretend...
For me, this sequence brings into sharp relief exactly why Man wants to become God, and what power the Court would most want for itself.

The way I see it, this either means Annie's been avoiding her true nature and calling by not joining the psychopomps...or it's not her true nature and she's eventually going to get out of it. She's either remembering she's not a goose now or she eventually will. If that makes any sense.

Gosh Coyote sure does love having his eyeballs out of his sockets. That's not a good idea, Coyote, what if you lose one!

Cookies for Earin! I prefer the alternative reading of this, which is that Coyote disguised himself as the goose *and* the bush *and* the lake.

Someday, Annie is going to realize she isn't a girl with a fire spirit trapped inside her. She's a fire spirit that became human and doesn't remember it doesn't have to be.
That's what I take from this.
That, and never play Coyote at hide and seek. Because chances are he's already been hiding and you've already been found.

Somehow, this story where Coyote even tricks himself into thinking he's a dead goose reminds me of one of the beginning quests in Kingdom of Loathing: if you're playing an Accordion Thief, you can't join the thieves' guild until you manage to steal your own pants without noticing.

Better that than beside himself. The world seriously does not need two of him.

Also, Big C-dog, you're very easily tricked if you couldn't remember you're NOT dead if you can still do things such as seeing, hearing, having a basic sense of self,... Well, once I woke up in the middle of the night and thought I might have died in my sleep. I had to check my wrist for a pulse to make sure I was alive. True story. My brain doesn't work very well when I've just woken up.
