I have made him strong, by being one with My purpose and will. Just as the sun is My eye and the stones are My teeth, he is My strong right arm, yes yes! it feels so nice to be appreciated

You also gave him a wooden body, so you should be careful not to set him on fire. After all, you are Too Hot! (Hot Damn!)

After all, you are Too Hot! (Hot Damn!) There used to be dragons in Gillitie Woods. Then they retired...man But despite my best efforts, I'm still not as hot as My favorite Fire-Head Girl

Cry me a river! Down by the riverside! Down to the river, and into the river we dive!

Ys is going on and on here about the honor of servitude and such... But then Annie's gonna eventually reply, "wow Ysengrin, this has really reassured me and has made me finally comfortable with my promise to serve the psychopomps I was forced to make."
And hes suddenly gonna be like, "What?! Screw that!"

He also can, and does, selectively eat my memories which effectively controls my mind. So basically I really have no free will but can't remember enough to know that.

In today's artistically-mediated lesson on data structures, the Gunnerkrigg Court forum debates whether Coyote should be categorized as a wrapper, an adapter, or a monad.
Ysengrin's position here resembles Renard's in Quicksilver.

the key word being "control". Even though life pre-Coyote doesn't sound like it was a frat house party every day, he now has purpose, which gives him control.

A body made of wood? That would make Ysendrin A WITCH!! Does Ysendrin weigh the same as a duck?

At the end of The Great Secret, Ysengrin seemed so sad and confused about his attack. Then, "boop!" all better. Which was the real Y: the angry one, the sad one, both? Of course "real" is a relative term, maybe even more so for Etheric beings. Maybe some day, we'll see a flashback revealing the original Y or the deal he struck.
I suppose it's possible Ysengrin was originally this way, and whatever powers Coyote gave merely amplified it. Perhaps, Y is simply the Etheric version of bipolar and Coyote's "mind rape" is his mood stabilizer.

Ysengrin says his life isn’t given in worship, but I don't know about that. He sings Coyote’s praises and defends his honour from blasphemers. His actions read a lot like worship to me. ( Here's an example from like two pages ago when he uses the word "devotion." Sounds like worship?) And frankly, if his life isn't "given in worship" then what even is his job? He's not the forest medium anymore. Is his job just to stand around and look intimidating?

I think if nothing else we can agree that Ysengrin is Coyote's man or wolf, body and soul.

Cry me a river! Down by the riverside! Down to the river, and into the river we dive! Over the river and through the woods to grandmother's house we go! Exercise for the student: If Coyote is "the river", then who is "the woods"? Who is "grandmother's house"? Who is "grandmother"?? For extra credit: Who is "we"?
