Making it clear that it's not just a case of healing Andrew - they also have to find someone who won't tell on them to the Court, since a seriously wounded Andrew could alarm and anger the Court administration almost as much as a dead Andrew could. Unfortunately, not that many candidates around. Coyote might be able to do it, but he's far too untrustworthy; he'd almost certainly exact a heavy price. Any medical personnel at the Court (including Anthony - who probably isn't up to it any more) would probably have to pass the word on about Andrew's injury. And I don't think there's anyone else. Robby, in Paz's lab, would be a good candidate for providing medical assistance with the least chance of informing the Court. For the rest, from the 'pomps' point of view, Annie does look unreasonable. They didn't require her to help them, they didn't require her friends to help her, and out of anyone you could find, I suspect they know the best that people die. At least Smitty is dying having spent his life righting a great wrong, and there is honor in that. He will help ensure the world continues to spin. ...I don't think he'll die. I'm not sure what intervention will save him though. well they did ask for her help, but I agree with those who have pointed out that she is a psychopomp herself, meaning they are under no obligation to reward her for what they think is just her doing her job. I do think the ROTD will make an appearance soon, possibly next page. on the one hand, Annie seems to be in with the management, on the other, they do tend to go with seniority...

well, if the pomps can fix Smittster, it avoids the whole problem of Annie & Kat getting into major trouble at the Court, possibly getting expelled (or at least put under some version of house arrest) for getting him so badly injured.... I am not the first to say... Anthony doesn't trust the Court, knows how to avoid surveillance, and doesn't want Annie expelled. He has all the medical skill needed to help Smitty, he just needs access to medical facilities, some helping hands, and a lot of luck. Saving Smitty's life and protecting everyone else from the dire consequences of their actions would be an interesting way to redeem Anthony.

No answers yet! *pulls hair* I still want to know why it was "only a matter of time" that Annie would help the "waiting" Jeanne. I still want to know! Why is Annie like this destined child of something-or-other! Why wasn't Surma? Why didn't Surma help when she was alive? Surma crossed the bridge all the time, one presumes! Is it just that they were less clever than Annie + Kat + Friends??? How'd the psychopomps know Annie could do this when none of them could?... e____e
Also it is upsetting that we still do not know whether Smitts will live. Darn this darn Jeanne apparent plot McGuffin. Also, poor Smitts.

I bet even Annie's father, with only one hand, could do stuff that would make a normal surgeon crap his pants in awe.

Kat, and the readers, ponder another bap. See, this is why I'm not voting on the Will Andrew Die? poll. Last page I would have said yes, his odds don't look good. This page is suddenly pointing the opposite direction. Though if he dies because Annie made Parley wait... Also, I'd say either dextrocardia or Convenient Cartoon Anatomy is confirmed. No way is he still alive at this point if he was stabbed in the heart.

The only reason Annie knows about Jeanne is because she fell off the bridge, and because Kat put Robot into the S1 body. This then lead to the Robot King showing Annie and Kat the record of Diego's revenge. Before this all memory of Jeanne was blocked from accessible records. Surma and Co. may have been crossing the bridge and messing with robots, but Surma didn't fall off the bridge, and Anja didn't figure out the old robots. Kat and Annie were simply able to gain information their parents hadn't been able to. And I don't think the Psychopomps *knew* Annie could help. I think they had simple hoped. They'd tried. Their members had fallen in the attempt. But Annie, being at the court and being alive, has certain resources in her friends and surroundings that they cannot access.

Hey, I hear you, but there has been too much hint-dropping on Tom's part for me to think there's no plot-driven reason why Annie's gotten this Jeanne job. Muut straight up said "we knew you would" a very short time after Annie met Jeanne and learned her name; and this is during a conversation when he admits the 'pomps twisted Mort's arm to get 'him' to give her the Blinker Stone while she was stuck on the shore. They planned this. Something or other just has to be really striking about Annie in a way that her mother may or may not have had. One thing in particular that I notice is that Annie's Antimony symbol is *in addition* to her fire elemental and Gillitie Medium symbols – we know what 'fire elemental' means, presumably, and we know what 'medium' means, but I think people have assumed Annie's Antimony symbol is just a personal identifier. I don't think that's so, I think it's a role. It's probably the same symbol her mother had (just as I suspect Diego might also have Kat's creator symbol). All these references to alchemy are insinuating Antimony somehow has some special etheric-catalyst role. What I'm suggesting is that it might be that her etheric-catalyst role is NOT the same as her fire-elemental one. I might be wrong about that. Either way, I still have many questions.

I find it quite a bold assumption that he has the medical skill needed to help Smitty. Maybe Smitty is beyond hope? Maybe Annie knows that the Psychopomps are her only option? "Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, Muut, you are my only hope."

Unsurprisingly enough, Muut's face is perfectly inscrutable, but I'm pretty sure their lack of any reaction at all means that they're unwilling to help. Yeah, I don't think there's much hope for Smitty from that side, sadly.

As long as his loss of one hand won't be a hindrance, and that he hasn't been drinking recently. But I certainly think that the best hope for the comic's continuation (short of new leads) is for someone to save Andrew's life. (And for that someone to be discreet enough to keep word of the adventure from reaching the Court administration - even a badly wounded Andrew would alarm them - and if they find out that the group was freeing something that was keeping the forest-folk out - I'm afraid that the present Court administration shares the Founders' paranoid attitude towards Gilltie Wood and willingness to do anything, no matter how cold-bloodedly ruthless and morally questionable, to preserve themselves.)

Some quick notes on composition: Annie is angled every time she appears on the page, with panel 3 being a classic Dutch tilt. Each panel is "shot" from a different location giving the sense of either rapid camera movement or quick cuts, and therefore tension. On the bottom row, Muut is framed (partially cut off, not sure what to make of that) by Annie and Kat, both looking inward to confront him. Kat appears only in the last panel, and she has appeared only twice, both times briefly, since ten pages ago when she came ashore. This implies that yes, she will figure in prominently to the next page, either to yell at Muut as Mecha-Angel or to tell Annie to leave it and bip to a hospital.

If the court finds out that Smitty and the crew went out to mend court-forest tensions by saving Jeanne, I have a feeling that they're all going to be in big trouble. Annie is already in deep trouble for cheating off of Kat, Kat herself isn't supposed to meddle in court-forest affairs, George wasn't strong enough to match Jean in one to one combat, and as we've seen, Smitty got very injured. If our crew has to go to the Court for assistance, I have a feeling that they're going to be in a lot of trouble.
Having the Guides heal Andrew would prevent all this from happening in the first place. The guides can't be touched (and neither can Annie, seeing as she's a pseudo-guide) and then our heroes can go back and report that they solved a court-forest related incident, which is their duty.
No matter how many relations they save, bringing a ghost into the afterlife won't save their skin from punishment, unless Coyote gets involved or something.

Due to his disability, perhaps Anthony would "operate" with a helper, or oversee someone else doing the surgical work entirely. The most obvious immediate choice for this would be Kat, due to her extensive anatomical knowledge from making Robot organic, and her dexterity. Another, more obscure possibility (already suggested by someone) is the person in Paz's animal lab (whose name I forget). Or Paz herself?

Annie and Co. need to find someone not under those restrictions (and who won't go telling on them to the Court), rather than trying to make the Guides break their own law. If the Court does find out - I suspect that the only way Annie and Co. could get out of this would be the fact that the Court administration wouldn't want it known that the Founders committed a double murder and then rewrote history to hush it up - and that punishing them over the Jeanne incident would reveal some public admission of the Founders' guilty secret. (Unless they can invent a new cover story.) Though blackmailing the Court into doing nothing wouldn't be all that noble.

Kohl is an ancient eye cosmetic, traditionally made by grinding stibnite, a compound of antimony and sulfur (Sb2S3). Kohl is known by various names, like surma in Punjabi and Urdu. Sur'ma is the Russian word for Antimony. I suggest that this implies not only a genetic connection between Surma Stibnite and her daughter Antimony, but to suggest that Annie represents a focussed refinement of the powers of her mother - she is the pure element, not some alloyed compound, diluted by other factors. This is underlined by Annie's special etheric attractiveness (as noted by Mort) - this is perhaps why Muut thought Annie could help, more than any other, to aid the stranded, yet powerful etheric remnants of Jeanne.

The court isn't desperately trying to hide anything (that we've seen so far,) so I'm not sure that the double murders would even matter to them, anyway. Most of the people working for the court (who like Annie, that is,) suspect something's up with their employers anyway... I'm pretty sure this story will come out, regrettably. Smitty should be fine, and if he isn't, then we have both a new Mort, and a new reason for our protags to hurry up and become god continue making things better, so this never happens again.

The Founders did cover up the double murder - even going to the extreme of erasing all references to Jeanne in the records - so I assume they didn't want it being known. On the other hand, the Court doesn't seem to have covered up using lies to entrap Reynardine, which was almost as bad. If Andrew dies (we've now some hope - though we don't know yet what the price is for the Guides saving him), the best hope for the story's continuation would be for the Court to not find out that Annie and Kat were involved. (Difficult, but not impossible; even the Court can't be omniscient.)

Annie: You guys murdered Jeanne and her lover. You shot him in the back, trapped both of them in the ether as shells of themselves for centuries, and hushed everything up. Are you sure you want that coming to light?
Headmaster: Well, Miss Carver, it is an unfortunate incident in the Court's history. Deplorable, even. However, as all of the involved parties are long dead, and as these ghosts have now been laid to rest, I hardly see how the present administration bears any burden of responsibility. [yawn] Now, as for the matter of your detentions...
