Cast your votes here, folks!
We will ritualistically burn simulacra of the worst character as a sacrifice to the Great God Siddell, to ensure the safety of Smitty.

Coyote is the worst. The others do monstrous things due to some restriction or other - whether actual captivity (Hetty) or ego and weakness of character (Anthony, Diego) (not sure I agree with Muut even being in this poll). Coyote seems to be a monster recreationally.

Also, Coyote is the worst because his is the only abusive relationship ("relationship" in the broad sense, yes?) where the story makes the reader complicit. Coyote is bubbly, fascinating and charismatic, and for a while it's easy to disregard the way he treats Ysengrin; and then when you can't ignore it anymore, you realize he's always been that way.

Muut, depending on how he will explain his assholiness in today's page.
1. He scolded Annie for disposing of a life (an ant) to contact him 2. Then he broke psychopomp's rules to force Annie's path into Jeanne's, so she could solve their problem 2.1. A freaking invincible rage murder ghost -- that is, he gambled with Annie's life from the start, then with the life of everyone that got involved in that mission 3. Then -- you don't say -- someone inevitably gets seriously hurt 4. And NOW their rules are back to being strictly enforced?

Then he broke psychopomp's rules to force Annie's path into Jeanne's, so she could solve their problem This isn't really true. All he did was break the rules to give Antimony a present to help her with her etheric abilities which would obviously help should she choose to deal with Jeanne and she did that by her own will though Muut knew her well enough to be sure that she would do that I'm torn between Hetty and Diego for this poll. Surprised Hetty is last considering it was heavily implied she killed that boy's sister and also was willingly torturing him just for amusement and was on the verge of killing him too. How's that's somehow not worse than being a shitty father?

I find this poll's lack of Boxbot... disturbing.

I find this poll's lack of Boxbot... disturbing. Well if I included him no one would select any other option. That clearly would be sub-optimal.

How's that's somehow worse than being a shitty father? Yeah, but Hetty's already dead and gone -- Rey cremated her pretty thoroughly. So I don't see that she is the worst any more... she was the worst, but that was then, this is now.

Why so much hate towards Me? Well, you did give a Tooth to a child. And when your child died you laughed. And the stuff with Ys. And then there was that time with the duck women... But you're still coming in second to Diego.

Why so much hate towards Me? Hate, love, worship, it's all attention, and fuel for the ether.

Except she's listed as Hetty, not "Hetty's smouldering remains" So we should be drawing comparisons with when she was still alive.

Diego probably takes the cake for just how nasty a person he was overall. What he did to Jeanne was inexcusable.

I voted for Diego... Hetty was killing for what I can gather her freedom, first from Adam's sister, then Adam himself (unknowingly). Also, etheric beings like Hetty and others seem to regard human lives as inferior to their own, for some reason. That doesn't justify her killing, but it does show that the mental barrier for killing a human is lower for a non-human like Hetty. Diego, on the other hand, was involved in killing and imprisoning the soul of someone he knew very well and claimed to love (Jeanne), and someone who Jeanne loved. They were people whose lives were roughly equal to his own, not "inferior beings". I know jealousy is a powerful emotion, but being willing to kill someone and prevent their soul from moving on long after you will be gone seems so much more cruel. Diego did not just take part in killing Jeanne and Green Guy, he imprisoned them indefinitely and created a monster of Jeanne. What Hetty did was selfish and evil, but Diego was on another level, even if he showed a form of twisted remorse for his crime.

Diego was on another level, even if he showed a form of twisted remorse for his crime. And Diego, despite his remorse, still put the blame on Sir Young rather than accepting the responsibility. (I still sometimes wonder which is worse - recognizing that what you did was wrong but blaming someone else, as Diego did, or believing that what you did was right, without a trace of a guilty conscience, as Sir Young did.)

Tony is a crappy father, but we all know he isn't really as callous as we'd like him to be. Muut... Muut is a bit of a jerk what with the "we owe you nothing" line, but still...
Diego chose Jeanne to die, built an arrow to kill and trap the soul of her lover, and then (with the rest of the court) left Jeanne to STARVE to death. And then he tried to push all the blame onto someone else as if he were totally innocent.
Is it just me, or does it seem like, as we dive deeper into the mysteries of Gunnerkrig, it's the Founders who may take up the true position of antagonists?

Unusual antagonists, since they're long-since dead, and thus can't directly interact with Annie and Kat. Through their legacy, on the other hand.....

Where's Sir Young? He might be a contender, although IMO we don't know of anything bad he did that Diego didn't take part in.
