You know what would've been even luckier? If neither of you got hit, dingus.

If he must die, then let him die the way he lived.
As a total playa.

Okay, murderous rage-ghost successfully diverted, let's just the two of you Bip over to the nearest emergency room, alright?

Me: somehow still hoping that panel 4 is what the fairies see, no knife and blood and dying.

You know what is a sign of a smooth sexy operator?... Pink mouth foam and gurgling sounds. Oh yeah....

If teleporting is not an option at least go with the super-jump.

If teleporting is not an option at least go with the super-jump. I know, right? Stab wounds are relatively treatable, hopefully doubly so at an institution with magitek. As beautiful as this scene is, they really should be MOVING to get him treatment, not chatting. Well, TELEPORTING to get him treatment. Don't take the patient with a knife in him for a bumpy ride.

Well, there's the blood. Aww, Smitty.
Also, page 1,777...lucky 777...I wonder if that was intentional?

You know what is a sign of a smooth sexy operator?... Pink mouth foam and gurgling sounds. Oh yeah.... Tough to say with cartoon anatomy but I think that missed the lung. I'll guess liver. If teleporting is not an option at least go with the super-jump. What I said before about clean stab wounds being survivable (with prompt treatment) remains true provided that the victim/patient doesn't make any sudden or strenuous movements and the penetrating object isn't otherwise disturbed. Super-jumping is probably not a great idea unless the object can be immobilized and jarring compensated for... In fact, reaching over to grab Parley by the shoulder might have just made things worse, thus (possibly) the now-visible bleeding. Assuming they're going to observe the rest of the Jeanne/Green scene play out and/or discuss what to do in committee instead of bipping Smitty to the hospital like sensible people, Parley could at least elevate his feet... that would improve blood flow to the brain.

I doubt it. The wound's been consistently portrayed near the center of his chest - near/through his sternum. His liver should be lower.

You know what also would have been lucky? Andrew getting stabbed in a place that isn't full of blood.
I think maybe Jeanne cut the threads.

Theory: now we FINALLY find out about the surprisingly applicable powers of the member of the party who so far appeared to have no good reason to be there.
Do your thing, Red. Whatever your thing happens to be.
Outside of wild speculation: there is a short text by Etgar Keret about how the difference between "I love you" and "I love you very much" is usually not big... Unless you're suffering an asthma attack and gasping for air, in which case every additional word matters a lot. What I'm saying is, if he can talk so much, he's can't be beyond bipping him to a hospital. Go (unless Red)!

Hehe, I was just gonna ask if we ever found out what Red's powers were (apart from knowing every swearword in the book, and seeing through Blue's pretty tricks) /Edit Also: how far to the nearest hospital? Is pretty relevant :S Unless Parleys father lives on the other side of the universe. Everything is relative.

His liver should be lower. This is where cartoon anatomy makes it tough. Going by what it looks like in #1774 I'd agree with you that it's too high for liver. The crossguard appears to be touching his chin. [edit] ...which would put the blade into the left ventricle, maybe. [/edit] But this update it is (unless I am seeing things) consistently drawn perhaps 4 inches lower, maybe a bit more. Either way, missed the left lung.

Smitty is... totally fine with this situation?
Ugh, this is too much, the only ray of hope I have now are Tom's playful comments below the page.

Okay, so there is blood. And Smitty is talking the way a fictional character would talk when death is approaching. Instead of doing the reasonable thing and teleporting away as soon as possible.
I remain hopeful that that will be done in the next page, but I'm increasingly believing that it is a fool's hope.

To me, the fact that this is APPALLINGLY CLICHÈ signals that this is something to be subverted, not the actual death scene of a beloved character. EDIT: am I wrong? Do I have a distorted idea of this comic, or does this feel off to anybody else in here?

Next page:
Smitty: I mean, you're the only one that can quickly get me to a hospital.
Parley: Oh!
*Bip*
[rest of the chapter focuses on Jeanne and Greenie reconnecting and Red's friend getting a name]
I mean, that could actually work.

If he was going to die, Tom would be making no comments, as he does in all serious moments.

Smitty has control over his powers, doesn't he? I guess all his luck went to Parley and not to him.

Smitty has control over his powers, doesn't he? I guess all his luck went to Parley and not to him. Oh no, he just 'ran out of luck'. The way Jeanne was fighting, at some point something was going to connect. The only thing he could do to keep Parley safe at that point of the fight was to take the blow himself. Because he's a gentleman! Also, yes please, hospital, or Red magic Powers... Or Green... This is turning into the Mighty Morphing Power Rangers...

If he was going to die, Tom would be making no comments, as he does in all serious moments. Also (which I've mentioned before), Smith's death could create too many problems for continuing the story (i.e., the Court finding out - there's no way that the death of a student, who's also Court Medium, could stay a secret - and placing so many restrictions on Annie and Kat that they'd have no more adventures for the remainder of their time at the Court). So, for the needs of the narrative, Tom has to keep Smith alive. I'll admit that I should be wanting him to live for his own sake rather than to keep "Gunnerkrigg Court" from ending abruptly, of course.

A triple 7 in the episode number is pretty lucky.
To those thinking George is dallying on the first aid, it should be pointed out that Andrew got stabbed less than a minute ago in comic time. Still, definitely time for some medic moves.
