I'm thinking those *could* be cut quill ends rather than hypodermic needles, but I'm not 100% on that. There sure are a lot of motifs in there.

I suspected that as soon as Kat said anything, Annie would recognize her voice. Let's hope Kat's special viewpoint will be just what's needed to safely extract Annie and Whatshisname from the maze/arrow.

The most likely next step would probably be that Kat helps Annie solve the puzzle involving moving parts that don't make any sense to Annie.
