I thought those pointy finger-gloves were an American thing primarily?
...probably inspired by baseball gloves, now that I think about it.

Visting Gunnerkrigg Court is like a big ride at an amusement park, you exit through a gift shop. Except you can't keep your gifts.

I'm now imagining, all the Gunnerkrigg characters saying their past dialog, in a Transatlantic accent. Boy, does that change things.

You can't even keep the hat when you leave the court? That's really mean! Let's hope, bunny boy at least gets it back when he returns later.

Wait, it's like actual tradition in the court? I wonder which founder brought that in.

There's a wiki article about it. There are also foam hands with other fingers extended, but we needn't dwell on that. But it'd be educational for our friends from far-away lands. Over the years I've seen both the one- and two-finger salute (a.k.a. the "two fast fingers") and the rocker, Spocker, and (a version of) the shocker. Some were professionally made, others home-crafted, and they came in all the colors of the rainbow. Dumb? Sure. But it beats a block of cheese as a hat or twirling your kerchifs over your head like some fans do. And now Gunnerkrigg's in USA! The mistery thickens. I'm now imagining, all the Gunnerkrigg characters saying their past dialog, in a Transatlantic accent. Boy, does that change things. Lots of people came from the continent so I'd figure a native Gunnerkriggarian born and raised might have that with a bit of a bend in an international direction.

Also beats the noise makers such as the vuvuzela, excluding cowbells of course because there is always a need for more cowbell.

Noisemakers do have a practical use as far as affecting the actual game. One time when I was a kid I went to a hockey game and some advertiser made the error of sponsoring a "free horn day." The fan of whichever side didn't have advantage at the moment blew as loudly as possible to try to help their team. It was pretty bad in the cheaps but down on the ice it apparently became too loud to play and/or think. Play was stopped and the fans of the team without the momentum overall just kept blowing (in the effort to break up the opposing team's momentum for good) although they were joined by random @ssholes. Not sure how long that play was stopped before it resumed but I always remember the oddly-worded requests from the announcer for quiet: "ALL HORNS AT HALO." And there was never a free horn day again.

I think Annie did this on purpose. excluding cowbells of course because there is always a need for more cowbell. But who will attach it to the cat? And there was never a free horn day again. But was there a welcome gift bag?
