I think, we get to know, exactly why Bunny boy wanted to leave the forest. Finally, a big mac with double cheese ... I guess, this is ok, even though it is quarter past nine right now, right? OK, I'm out of here, having a second breakfast, thanks, Tom!

Tom has caught the texture of a certain style of 'cheese' to perfection.
These 'channels' sound a little familiar, from a few pages back.

Also, other teachers? So there are other schools out there like Gunnerkrigg Court? Or are these teachers part of some other organisation?

Eglamore as Guru. Cool. This business with the qi flow channels has way major implications for Kat's research and possibly Anthony's healing. Or at least so it appears to my brain just before the coffee has flowed through mine.

I'm already dead.

So there are other schools out there like Gunnerkrigg Court? Well, there's the Unseen University of Ankh-Morpork, Hogwarts, Monsters University... I'm still waiting for some exchange students to show up.

So, chakras and such.
I like the concept of the Ether, and how it encompasses all kinds of afterlives and other alternative sources of weird and wacky magic.
But sometimes I wonder how much Tom's willing to stuff into the story. I personally thought we had plenty of stuff related to this already.

That was my impression, unless she came straight from her dwelling on the moon. But she was visiting to present a research paper and those are usually written at Schools so I just figured she came from Chinese Gunnerkrigg. gunnerkrigg.com/?p=918

While there are other Courts and schools, we always hear that they exist, yet hardly any details about them. The diminishing numbers of teachers sound kind of sad. Very much like the decline of rojaks and dragons. A little side note of how much technology has taken over from the "good old traditions"?

Also, other teachers? So there are other schools out there like Gunnerkrigg Court? Or are these teachers part of some other organisation? Formspring:Q: Are there any other facilities in the world like the Court? (in the comic world, not the real world) A: Not like Gunnerkrigg, but there are other places where stuff happens, yeah. Q: Are there more places other than Gunnerkigg Court and the Forest? Like another country? A: Yeah Q: Is Gunnerkrigg Court meant to be unique (an institution that studies etheric sciences), or are there more places like it around the world? A: There might be other places that dabble in the same areas, but Gunnerkrigg is unique. Q: Are the other institutions in the GKC universe that are aware of, and study, "magic"? A: There might be, but there are no other places like the Court. So, chakras and such. I like the concept of the Ether, and how it encompasses all kinds of afterlives and other alternative sources of weird and wacky magic. But sometimes I wonder how much Tom's willing to stuff into the story. I personally thought we had plenty of stuff related to this already. Personally I prefer explanations of the "babble jargon strange words" kind.

I'm still waiting for some exchange students to show up. I've always believed there is a Chinese/Japanese organization affiliated with the Court where teens with anime hair train to fight Kaiju. Plus there's the SCP Foundation in the USA, which doesn't get along too well with its oversea neighbors. And if you want crossovers...well, there is always more fan fiction It sounds to me like they're some sort of hermit gurus who are slowly dwindling away because no-one's interested in their lifestyle choices, any more. You can channel the energy of your body, or you can channel your bullets into their body. One requires careful, highly-skilled training, the other just needs aim. I don't think that Tree Wolves are very bothered by bullets. Swords are just better, especially when etheric. But the number of threats that must be dealt with by a protector is dwindling: guns deal with most things in the modern world better than a sword.

Meat in the diet is hardly surprising. Parley is is learning how to use chakras, that's interesting.

I'm imagining, that in Coyote's head, they're all in a harem anime, and he's the main protagonist. "Coyote no Uso": A heartbreaking tale of how the only person Coyote lies to... is himself. Cue Yousei Teikoku music

Check out Parley's body language; she is somewhat hunched with her arms protecting her plate as she eats. She's basically saying, "Don't come near my food." I'd like to know where that behavior is coming from.

The original point was to provide an explanation of why people might not be so interested in learning what Parley's learning - that those skills are partially redundant if they can be replicated cheaply by technology. After all, her role is supposedly ceremonial and due to restrictions laid out by the Forest (distrust of all technology and robots) as to what the protector of the Court's medium is allowed to carry with them while operating in that role. Otherwise, I'm sure we'd see Parley getting tats that turn her into Samus or Master Chief, rather than Kenshiro.

It sounds to me like they're some sort of hermit gurus who are slowly dwindling away because no-one's interested in their lifestyle choices, any more. Modern conveniences and society have made the opportunity cost for being a traditional hermit higher in many ways. You can have a nice apartment and hold down a turn-key job and still effectively be a hermit, seeing other humans in person nearly as rarely as if you lived on the edges of civilization. To have zero chances of seeing another human in the course of your daily life you have to go far enough that resupply and repair of anything you bring with you is problematic. I don't think that Tree Wolves are very bothered by bullets. Then, clearly, you haven't been using the right kind of bullets. I agree with both you and Daedalus in that guns are good tools for making holes in things at a distance. Since tree wolf/wolves are few there just isn't as big a need for protectors... And special bullets could give even Ys a hard time, particularly since he probably knows about guns and has developed tactics/defenses against them. Check out Parley's body language; she is somewhat hunched with her arms protecting her plate as she eats. She's basically saying, "Don't come near my food." I'd like to know where that behavior is coming from. It might be that a slouch is just a slouch (she's hungry and not used to being this large and is slouching like a teen might) but if it is a learned behavior then she either had older sibling/cousin(s) or aggressive school-chums or both. Outside chance: A parent or care-giver, likely her mother, was worried about her being thin and tended to snipe things away from her, possibly. We know what her dad did for a living so she probably wasn't raised short on food or in a literal barn, fending off animals.

I don't think that Tree Wolves are very bothered by bullets. Depends on the caliber and velocity. Also at sufficiently large caliber they don't have to be simple kinetic bullets - they can have, for example, explosives or incendiaries.

The rabbit has developed a taste for meat, repeat, the rabbit has developed a taste for meat. Herbivore turns carnivore. Prepare for the arrival of the Black Beast of Aaarrggghh! Most herbivores will eat meat, they're just not adapted to *catch* it. :-) (That is, herbivore is not the same thing as vegetarian.) Similarly, carnivores also eat a certain amount of plant material. Here are some herbivores eating meat, obvious content warnings apply: imgur.com/gallery/LV7HU

It occurs to me that Parley needs to be able to open those channels to survive her diet, not her training! #SuperSizeGeorge
