Does that mean the name in supposed to be pronounced by inhaling through your nose heavily instead of saying the word "Snuffle"?

Finally. Poor Snuffles. And yeah, I think so; otherwise a rabbit would have a hard time pronouncing it.

Aww these feelings. I wonder, whether Red's behaviour would be considered as perfectly normal, too by <snuffle>*
*pronounced correctly

I wonder if it's in IPA?

They don't even know enough to *shout* Red's name.
(Meanwhile, you two, just stand over there in the corner and take what's dished out.)

Does that mean the name in supposed to be pronounced by inhaling through your nose heavily instead of saying the word "Snuffle"? I always assumed so, actually. I'm glad they've cleared this up. <snuffle>* *pronounced correctlyI feel like that is the only correct way to refer to <Snuffle>*. *pronounced correctly"They aren't too smart over here" - the Forest seems to value intelligence a lot less than the Court anyway, so it's all good.

The term "lost in translation" comes to mind right about now... Also, has anyone tried to explain to Bugsy that Ms. is a title/form of address, not actually part of her name?

well, they're not REALLY to tell what gender you are. if she was a judge for example she might be called The Right Honourable Bugsy, which is neutral. or if she was a post-secondary teacher with a phd she might be Dr. Bugsy. gender really only gets figured into the lower-level titles because we stole them from the french.

Name's a name. Why would one need some dangling parts in front to tell whether you're a he or a she... That’s not really the purpose of "Ms." and "Mr.". Not even close.

I still wonder though, is it <snuffle>* or <Snuffle>* then?
*pronounced correctly
Seems, as if the inhabitans of the Forest has the same understanding of intelligence as most of us have, too. I have to admit, whenever someone repeatedly pronounces my name the way, I hardly take him or her seriously. Even though, most of the time it is my mistake for not telling my name in a way he or she can understand in the first place.
With Bugsy complaining about how she is called, I wonder what Jones thinks of mankind calling her Ms. Jones and therelike.

Came here to see "subtlety" references, was not disappointed. With Bugsy complaining about how she is called, I wonder what Jones thinks of mankind calling her Ms. Jones and therelike. "Just Jones will do."

Fairies, as this page shows, accept no variation in their names at all, whereas Jones changes her name regularly. I imagine she thinks of her name like we think of online usernames: we use certain ones for a while, but will retire them and adopt new ones as context and interests change.

Wait, so if they're that specific about <Snuffle>*'s name, do they think they have to shout Red's name since Annie shouted it when she named her?
*pronounced correctly

When I was working, I carefully maintained two online identities - one for work and one for everything else. (There was some overlap in interests, and I ended up getting credited for my contributions to the Win95NetBugs mailing list and faq for BOTH identities.) Now that I'm retired, and there's no chance that anything I say online will negatively impact my employment or reflect on my employer, I'm attempting to merge the two whenever convenient.
